Ooh you got me in the first half with weight lifting but I agree you trying to progress to a 405 squat so fast and ect can lead to more opportunity for injury and the focus is on selection not a weightlifting meet. But the importance of being strong cannot be understated due to how much it improves running times and load carriage ability to be less taxing on the body. Strength is the foundation of everything.

OUTSTANDING / SPOT-ON. I like how accurate, articulate, solid, and applicable this is. (And without the chest thumping, logos, awards in the background, tacticool imagery, CQB focus that others seem to be using with their social media)

I had to get a waiver to join, so I couldn't go 18x, but I just recently took the oath, and I go to Basic in May. I've always had it in my heart to try out at some point, and the NG unit I'll be going to has a pretty good reputation for sending people to 20th Group. Idk how I found your channel, but you're extremely informative, and I'm definitely taking notes. Thank you for your time, Sir.

FOCUS ON --- ENDURANCE, STAMINA, INTESTINAL FORTITUDE. Not weights and fad workouts. I did a LOT of low impact biking, lap swimming (up to a mile at a time), as well as running and orienteering races to get ready for selection and the SFAC. Running speed is important. I was a first time go on everything. I did rucking, but was smart about it and focused on both making the times while preventing injuries. (my 12 miles times were between 2:22 and 2:46) Your body has to be built for and hardened for carry a ruck. But, NOT weight lifting and fad workouts. What is on the PT test, obstacle course, certain selection events, and the rope climb are the only strength related tasks you should be ready to master. When you get to an SFODA / group, then start doing weights and other strength training.

So basically I should only focus on rucking and push ups, pull ups and stuff like that?

Been primarily weight lifting for the past 7 years. I have some decent aerobic base, being a former college hockey player, but know I need to transition now to endurance. Looking to get myself in shape for selection. I purchased Tactical Barbell. Have you heard good things about this book? Thanks

Thanks for the video brother. Doing an 18x next year. Everyone over completes how to do a “train up”. This helped me tremendously. Any tips you have, I’ll gladly take.

I’m glad it helped! It’s definitely not complicated, but requires a lot of consistency. I wish you the best with it!

A good rule of thumb is if they give you a goal/standard, expect the actual goal to be even more. If you’re barely meeting the standard in one area, you most likely haven’t progressed enough yet to preform well at selection. I didn’t take the train up seriously enough once I made it to Bragg, and now I have to wait 2 years before I can give it another go. Make sure not to waist your shot as the 18X contract is probably the best opportunity the army can start you off with. Best of luck man. (Side note for anyone considering 18X: Take a 3-4 year Airborne contract and get a fat bonus. You’ll have 2 opportunities to volunteer for the 18X program in OSUT or Airborne School. It will put you with the same people who came in on 18X, only difference is your wallet with be overflowing while the rest of us failures complain how we never got a cent of ours lol)

@@sadf526 Thanks boss. If I don’t make it I’m not sure if I want to give it another go. I may try to go through RASP. Haven’t made up my mind yet. I may just finish out my contract with the 82nd and go home.

Solid video! What do you think about the research they're doing on candidates, their attributes and they're likelihood of being selected based on those attributes?
I believe the top 4 physical ones are, in order: Muscle Mass, Bodyfat Percentage, Bone Density and Height.
The top three are totally dependent on lifting weights and a proper diet. I think maybe the issue is that people tend to fixate on being as strong/big as possible and tend to neglect conditioning?
Wouldn't a guy who crushes the runs and is also strong be a more ideal candidate?

    • @InfiniteGrit
      @InfiniteGrit  7 місяців тому +1

Absolutely! If someone can crush the running/rucking events and also move heavy weight that is ideal but just like you said the problem is that people tend to over emphasize the importance of performing in the gym then lack in the other areas.
I’ve seen some info on the research but haven’t dug into too much to really comment on it. I’ll definitely read into it some more!

so in your opinion 1rm dont really matter in terms of selection? I feel like having a strong squat and ohp could probably help during team week? Would you say there are any bare minimum numbers that you would want someone to be able to lift before going to selection?

@@NervousThunder1 Thank you, I really appreciate it! Not really, I'd much rather see guys incrementally improve their 3 and 5 rep maxes over a long period of time. The reason I say that is because a lot of guys get so hyper focused on hitting a PR on their one rep max that they jump up in weight too quickly, take unnecessary risks or try to push through a breakdown in form and end up hurting themselves, completely halting any progress.
It's hard to say a specific number will mean you're strong enough for selection because everyone is very different. I've seen guys who only did bodyweight stuff and did not seem very strong have no problem with selection and vice versa. However, for the sake of conversation some good 5 rep maxes are: Squat - 295, Deadlift - 315-365, OHP - 135, Bench Press - 255.
Like I said, these numbers don't mean a whole lot as it is highly dependent on the individual but if someone can do these numbers for 3-5 reps they are plenty strong enough for selection
