  • Caelan Doris emerged from the Leinster schools system but his origins will always be deep-rooted in the West of Ireland. Here, we see what the people of Mayo have to say about their local hero.
‘Mayo would have an All-Ireland by now if Caelan had stuck with football’

I Often Wonder. How Many Gaelic Footballers & Hurlers. Look 👀 and See the Likes of Caelan. U20s O’Connor and many more. Playing Rugby with Great Success. Both Enjoyed & Financially Looked After. I’m Irish living in America
Played Both Gaelic Football & Rugby. 🏉. When I Look Back.
I have a. Junior/ Intermediate/& Senior Football medals. For County Championship Final Wins. Also I Have a Factory League County Championship Final Win ( Medal). 🥇. Not Bad I Suppose. Considering the Fact that My Father Played Rugby & Athletics as a Catholic in Ireland. When it was Taboo to Do Such a Thing.
My Family were all Great Athletes. As was My Father’s Family. My Father was One of the Few People Who Started.
Portarlington RFC. It was My Father who Supplied the 2 Pitches. Shower Rooms. And Food to Both Teams after Every Home Match. Be it for 2 or 4 Teams playing at home.
    Was President for some Years.
I Do Believe it’s The Clubs 50th Anniversary This Year. 2024.
Portarlington Made History in its First Year. By Winning a Town’s Cup in its First Year.
May it Long Continue. I enjoyed Playing Rugby with Them. As Did 3 of my Brothers. I Forget I Think Brothers. A PJ & Arthur was on the Team that Won that First Cup. I Regret Not Being more Serious About Playing Rugby but I Loved Playing. As For My Playing GAA. With O’Dempseys. I Learned of the Jealousy Twords my Family Because of Rugby + Other Things. I Could Write a Book About It. Life is a Journey of Learning. 🤔🧐. I Scored 1/2 the Scoring of the Senior Country Final Win for O’Dempseys in 1980. A Goal in the Dying Seconds to Win by a Point. 🤔. While There was War Going On Within The Club Because I Was Picked For The Starting 15. For Final. 😳🤔🧐
Never Played For O’Dempseys after that Year. My Best Friends Family Left That Year Also. (Jealous) Also. They have Never Won a Senior Championship Final Since. I Think I will be Home in 2030 To Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Win in 1980.
With No Wins In Between. 😳😳. Times have Changed. Can you Blame Any Young Gaelic Player (Amateur) for Thinking of Using His Talents on the Field of Play in Rugby 🏉.
    Financially & Health Wise.
