DUB & DEEP SESSION # Techno studio Jam (SpaceEcho Prophet6 Tempest Octatrack Perfourmer Strymon..)

- Dub & deep techno session played live & recorded reel to reel, using revox b77, roland space echo re-201, sequential dsi prophet 6, tempest, prophet 12, vermona perfourmer mkII, elektron octatrack, strymon bigsky & timeline, acidlab bassline 3, livid cntrl-r, ableton live for samples & recorded analog sequences.
All the all synth on the stand are going thru the mackie mixer. All the synth are midi slaves and sequenced by the Octatrack (except the last track where i used the p6 sequencer). In this set, the P12 is used with bi-timbrality so it takes 2 stereo channels on the mixer. I don't use the Moog. To fade in or out a synth, i use the cutoff filter mostly and when the sound is almost vanished, i shut down the sequenced midi channel on the Octatrack. On the Mackie mixer are coming external auxilliar fx like Space echo, Time line & Bigsky. Each channel/synth can get the proper amount of fx i want at anytime. Also i root 3 output channels from the Tempest to the Mackie : 1 stereo & 1 mono. I can use the send fx on those channels (usually stereo is for tempest synth and mono for rythm elements) That's all for the Mackie ! the stereo output is going to the soundcard Input channel. The Tempest is midi sync by usb from the computer/ableton's clock as well as the Octatrack. I use Tempest & Octatrack midi thru to sync bassline 3, volca keys & timeline. For this jam i use rythm sounds (clap, snare, hhat, tom, white noise, rimshot, etc..) & polysynth from the Tempest. All the kickdrums are Tempest analog homemade, most of them played straight from it, one is recorded and played from the Octatrack audio sequencer. As i said, 3 channels of the Tempest are root to the mackie, the 3 other mono are going straight to the soundcard. Same for the Octatrack audio & the Bassline 3. Concerning Ableton, i control the mix, the send fx & mute with livid cntrl-r. I play samples, loops and recorded sequences which i launch normally with the cntrl-r pads but i finally used the mouse...
The first two tracks are a 2016 interpretation of two of my former projects' and have been made respectively in 2012 and 2008.

I am fascinated with the sound, synth, and gears on your set up. I would like to get started and hope you can give me some advice what should I be looking for as a beginner.
I have some old synth lying around where those early years we just do sequencing midi to some hard ware ...I have stop since and with all newer technology being introduced, things are much more direct,friendlier to use and put down a track.
I am not a musician but an Architect who just happen to enjoy electronic synthesizers...I still have my k2000r kurzweil, Roland jv,ensoniqe sir, mackie 1604.....a rhodesmk80 by Roland.
I like to get back to setting up a new home studio with stuff like yours to get on back ....
Your advice will be of great help.
Note: I am from Malaysia...so some of the instruments in your description may not be readily available over here, but no worries...will have to buy online with sam ash ny or sweetwater sound where I bought gears from them while attending university in the USA.

Whoa, that sound on the prohet in the first track! Or all the sounds for that matter. Very, very spacious and lovely fx sounds. You obviously put a lot of effort in your sound design and mixdown. Perfect performance, one of my fav on UA-cam so far!
Yence505 thx for the words 🙏 not sure which prophet's sound you're talking about ; for the chords line, i use the p12 for the bass part without delay and the p6 for the middle-high with tape delay. Also i split the p12 and use the bi timbrality with this rhodes-like organ i play on the fly. Anyway, glad you liked it ! ;)

exakt 3:51min lol , so witzig - ja das Reverb funktioniert lol MADE my DAY - Du hast mich zum Lachen gebracht ! THX !
Mir gefällt das Setup. Ich bin gespannt - erwarten tue ich 2x 4er Harmonien (also 4Tasten Harmonie für den Hauptgang und 4Tasten Harmonie als gegenpart - Du verstehst schon , wenn C +3Tasten eine Harmonie auf C bilden und die ABWECHSLUNG A# +3Tasten den Gegenpart - Bass wäre dann C und #Abwechslung A# (oder die kombination der restlichen +3Tasten) Ein Beispiel : c + d# + g + g# gegen a# + c# + d# + f bei c würd ich dann strophen zur Abwechslung mal d# oder g# laufen lassen , filter in den Keller .
Und was ich noch Klasse fände und ausflippen würde , wäre Flöte (die Quintessenz) oder Du weißt schon , das Licht in der Dunkelheit , die Stimme .
Die Mischung in den ersten Minuten gefällt schon mal sehr - ich bin gespannt und höre jetzt weiter (ich hatte bei 3:51min laut gelacht und währenddessen gestoppt und kommentiert), toll toll toll .
edit : 5:08 schönes Spiel - interessant . ich seh die ganze zeit auf meinen mixer die RTA (ich seh die Pegel , find ich voll gut den bass um die 40hz zu halten (36hz-42hz meistens) zwischen 10khz und 20khz sind auch 2 spitzen interessant - ich höre es uber ziemlich lineare aktive monitore , klanglich ist es von entspannt . 10:53 min das erstemal etwas zuviel Bassfrequenz , aber durchaus hörbar .
13:14min bei ambient psy würde man ein midigate auf den klavierton(oder was es auch immer gedämpft ist) legen - es eignet sich gradezu dafür , weil es wie eine Fläche immoment wirkt (ich will nur ein Tip geben , die Töne sind völlig in Ordnung, völlig Okay oder noch Besser , für Live ). Ich würd mich freuen , wär ich im HOUSE Club es würde so ein Set LAUFEN über Stunden . Schöner SCHALL , amtlicher Sound , sehr gelungen . bei 14:30 rum gefällt es sehr , die Hihat hätte modulation gebraucht , die ist zu starr (höher und tiefer , minimal , eventuell mit einem vocoder und filter ) , denn so ein Grooveinstrument wie die Hihat will auch mal bewegt werden , im Mix .Natürlich ist die hihat exact dort , wo sie hingehört , gar keine Frage , ich will nur sagen , was mir ausfiehl .
19te minute gefällt super . ich denk so , die Drummaschine , die muß jetzt auch mal langsam zeigen was sie kann , per filter und mangle auf base und congas oder toms . bei 20:30 gefällt es noch mehr , sher schöner Schall . Es fehlt nur das "BOW" "BOW" von den Congas (mangl filter bp) so wie 23:23min , die mel ist doch das Congaspiel , oder ? Nichts ANDERES würd ich erwarten - hierfür Applause. Du hast den Mix in eine schöne Richtung gespielt . Ein Schöner Part .
die 29min beginnt mit dem ersten Fehler - der erst eine minute später abgefangen ist , ansonsten sehr groovig gewesen, voller FUN .
37:28 min weißte , ich sitz im Studio wollt eigentlich weiter machen heut , aber wozu ? "ICH HABE nämlich heute schon Musik gehört ;-)" Du hast zumindest meine Erwartungen erfüllt und jetzt kann ich Feierabend machen :-) Schöner Mix , gefällt mir sehr wie es sich entwickelt hat (29te minute verziehen :-) ) . Du läßt es "BELLEN" Wuff wuff Applause und groovige Grüße - das war nicht das letzte Video , was mir gefiel , sondern das 2te Video was wirklich wieder TOLL war . Es machte Spaß die RTA zu beobachten , zu spekulieren , wie es weiter geht im Mix etc . Sehr unterhaltend (Selbstgesprächtechnisch)!!!!
Ich habe es bei -33db abgehört , mit 50% Monitorlevel - ich fands Super
die Voice am Ende ist unzureichend effektiert - delay und zwar moduliert über AUX (mischpultsättigung und doppelungen) (automatisch LFO oder per Hand) , damit die Stimme im Raum sich ändert , ruhig mit filter und Reverb , eventuell mit dem EQ nachhelfen - Zusammenfassend sind von 46min live die 29min und die vocals aufgefallen . Insgesammt super groovig . Das war wirklich läßig .
Aber wegen der vocal line , muß ich jetzt doch ins Studio . Ich habe 8Spur Track vorbereitet (7spur midi + 1 spur vocal text to speech - Dn-e1 , vanguard , nexus2, 303 ,909 sowie im wechsel die 808toms und congas zur 909,midi gitarre, midi piano +die voice = 8 spuren + 4xAux - ohne Master . Ich hab die midi (nur Maus , ohne keyboards) nun soweit , es übers X32 zu mixen . Ich muß also das Setup vom PC zum MIXER und dort alles einstellen und zusatzrouten schaffen etc . Aber das Video ist Super läßig und inspirierend , so wie eine EICHUNG fürs Gehör :-)

Octatrack is sequencing midi patern of synths. Ableton is playing loops and samples. For this jam i don't change programs neither on octatrack nore tempest. Now i'm using snd acme-4 for midi clock and i can change programs and keep the sync between the different gears and the computer. 😉
