"Sumaya" is closer to the phrase "be happy" but Josh's lyrics express "be happy with someone else." which makes it more painful in a sense. 😭

Sumaya (pronounced quick, without accent) means to be happy. Like, “Gusto kitang sumaya” means I want you to be happy.
My favorite part is when he screamed “Mahal kita!”, and how I could hear his gentle sobbing and sniffing. We seldom see men being this vulnerable and in touch with their sensitive side. It’s like we were peeking into this private world of Josh. The lyrics are so relatable and unique, it could only come from the composer’s 1st hand real life experience.
Yeah, exactly, it's like he's showing us his vulnerable side. I think that's the main factor why I feel so sad everytime I watch this, I can imagine him to be in that real situation, I hope not though.
I love that they are now in this space where they can be free to do what they want to do with their craft. Actor Josh is back!

I hope we don’t get too used to them gifting us with such masterpieces that all their hard work, heart, and $$ invested seem like something regular. I want to always be reminded of how much it takes for them to give this much and every single time. They have been giving their all and not only for whatever they can gain, but for a sincere noble cause. They want to and they are changing things esp in and for the Philippines.
Yeah. We're being so spoiled with this quality releases, actually, I'm afraid too that I might be more demanding in the future so I keep on reminding myself that they are already giving us more than we deserve, so be grateful because we're too lucky to have an idol like him/them.

The emotions that were shown in this MV is just so believable. I understand it when you say you love it so much you hate it. I agree that it brings memories back of past heartbreaks. I can imagine that the additional footages by Justin and Xi-anne were the ones taken in TeamLabs Borderless in Tokyo.

For someone who’s claimed on School Buddies that he’s not creative, Josh has consistently given us the most engaging and deep productions. He knows how to pull on emotions, doesn’t he? Each MV he just becomes better.

He did say he was going to level up so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. Though I was doubtful before… so this WAS a surprise. The lyrics are much too relatable that it’s rather embarrassing to admit that I teared up at first watch (and continue to do so at subsequent views of the MV). Awesome surprise as this came with no prior warning - a song with a full MV dropped out of nowhere. Love this; seems like a trilogy of relationship songs - Pakiusap Lang, Ayoko Na, and now Sumaya.
I’m sure others will note this but Google translate gets the title wrong. ‘Sumaya’ is more appropriately translated as ‘Be Happy’.

I super agree with you, when it comes to delivery and emotions, it really is Josh asset. No wonder why it was almost always his parts in their songs are my favorite. There is something in his voice and delivery that plays with my heart. In this song of his, no tears was shed from my eyes but my heart is definitely bleeding inside, feeling his pain when I never ever had that kind of pain in my life yet.

This MV shows Josh's amazing artistry, passion in his craft, the musicality, production, vocals, directing, AND ACTING. Something the music industry needs to take note of, especially in the PH. It felt like a movie/drama series. I wanted to know when the next episode was going to be.
Josh went on live before the premiere. He mentioned the sleepless nights, not thinking he could release the MV by the deadline he set for himself, and putting everything together last minute but being satisfied with the outcome.
Someone from his team posted on IG a time lapse video where they worked through the night finished everything in 3 days, 2 nights. They showed a pic of Josh and them holding a clock with the date 5/29 so they finished then released the offical MV just a few days later.

I have been stuck in this song since its release, the world and emotions he created through music, atmosphere and poetry, and each time I watch it, the pain draws all strength from me. I'm not heartbroken but experiencing this song & mv transports and transforms me completely. It's the culmination of Josh Cullen as an artist, in all facets of his vision, ambition, talent, drive, and beauty. I'm like you where I have so much to say but words cheapen them, and at the same time, no words really encapsulate all of it so I think it may deserve a journal entry for catharsis...
Our dear sweet boy had a series of messages during this period of how tired he was, how a breakdown was imminent, and now it starts to make sense. No one recommended he push through with the time frame to rush this, but Josh being Josh, he just took it to mean he had to make it happen himself. Even after late schedules, he was editing it himself. And now seeing it all complete, all the emotions seen, heard, felt just feel all the more honest and real. That theme of hatid & sundo (driving a partner somewhere then coming back to pick them up at a later time) is such a beautiful metaphor for a one-sided, self-sacrificing love and a cycle needing to coming to an end (a recurring & auteur stamp on JC projects it seems)... This one really affected me and is now my fave JC song.
