I use to give a quote then leave and 2nd guess myself because of their reaction when they hear the price. I realized quickly they they were just cheap or trying to get it cheaper. I stick to my quotes now because I found those that make the faces still accept services at my prices. Like mulch I went from 75 a yard to $90. Next year $95. Great videos and you’re making a difference.

Ugh. Especially during the COVID era now they just stop responding to phone calls or e-mails. At least with the faces you could gave a facial reaction too.

With delivery and installation on that pricing, plus the price of the mulch?

I do tutoring and I had one client who was flat broke and offered $20/hour and always saying nice things about me. Keep in mind it's really $20 for the one hour of tutoring PLUS sometimes 45-60 min of traffic PLUS 10-20 minutes of going overtime or just small talk with the parents PLUS a lot of other nonsense sometimes.
Years later I learn how to look up mortgages on properties and I discover they have $700k+ equity in their home.

Bro I legit dig your personality. You're 100% right. I watched my dad work as a trucker then come home and work for some of those type for $10hr. My dad would be gone all day for 100 bucks. Those people steal they steal from your wallet, your family, and your spirit.

shame on the people that do the work that cheap tho man! We have responsibilities to our industry as business owners to keep prices up!!

In the first couple years of my lawn care business, I built up about 40-50 lawns per week at very low prices. I wasnt making much money at all. The following year, i raised prices to what they should be, and what we needed. I lost pretty much half of my clients..some people only higher you cause YOU ARE CHEAP! Since then, i have replaced the lost clients with people paying the right price. It takes a strong back bone... but is much needed in your business.

I love being a solo operator and I want to thank you for the countless lessons, tips, forewarnings and problem solving advice throughout the years. You have always provided the content a guy in my shoes seeks, im not a multi-crew business nor do I desire to grow that much. I love feeling like I don't work, I simply feel busy, and along with your knowledge have been able to go from making $2,000+ my first year (started in June 2019) to $70k+ this season (2023). Next season with price increases and going weekly service exclusively I will be clearing $100k. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU and I can't wait to meet you one day at the Expo to say it in person. Even if you don't remember this comment when the day comes, I owe you a real life thank you, Keith.

If you provide the best service experience possible, in skills, results, and professionalism, the only way to increase the customer's pleasure is to charge a high price. If you dazzle them, their happiness with the results will be greater the more they have to pay.
So, for those committed to providing only the best, you owe it to your customers to charge more than everyone else in your area. That's what I do.

  • @dalekay9ine
    @dalekay9ine 2 роки тому +1

One thing a lot of business owners don't realize is that anyone who's paying to have their grass cut, landscaping done, etc, MOST of them not only can afford it but can afford to pay more than you're charging and most importantly they absolutely DONT WANT TO HAVE TO DO IT THEMSELVES.
You're giving them that TIME back that would normally be taken away by them doing lawn care themselves, is in some cases INVALUABLE because time is money and they want that time to be making more money working, or spend that time w their family, so think about that if you ever feel your prices are "too high". Most likely they could afford to pay 25% more than what your charging, wouldn't bat an eye at an increase and it's totally worth it to them to FREE UP THAT TIME for things they deem more important.

bin watching you a minute Keith, your exactly right, Had a customer not a client ( there's a difference) after a long debate and they wasn't having a reasonable rate (with all the extras as your finishing of course) i just agreed to save some face. (because i value my time) I loaded back up my equipment and just took off and they was just relentless with the apologizes on the text. It was so satisfying as i went on to the next job that made me 3 times the profit in half the time.

@ 10:30 is what will separate you and keep you in business long term. Measure your pricing, times, BOOKS and ALL Costs. Be on time every time and be clean with well kept gear. Be thrifty and practice deferral of gratification and saving. Write down all your numbers and math. Price right. Have pride and integrity. Go hard and outwork everyone!

I'm 65 years old. And still doing this work. .At my age, it hurts my body. You have to have good people working for you. Landscaping is a good Gig . But it's work. As you know. I've had good people working for me. That l have trained to do the work. Then they get their own equipment and go out and start their own business. Which is great. That the smart thing to do. It just makes it hard for a old landscaper. 🏴‍☠️

I love your videos. I work full time plus have my landscape business for 20 years now. And you are right people do try to nickel and dime you. And yes I have done jobs were I’m kicking myself half way threw. But I’ve learned I take the good with the bad. I do work for some middle management companies. And yes they do suck! But it’s guaranteed money. I make it work for grass cutting. I got out of doing patios I got screwed by a lawyer for 8,000.00. He was being a big deal and his wife was spending more than he made... lol and I get screwed and so did the guy installing new hardwood flooring. So I went to court and it was drama. But I learned to feel people out. If they act normal I usually give a decent price but if not I’ll give a higher price. But other than that I’ve had a good life so far. Hey keep up the videos

Yeah this is Richard and hopefully you see this comment one day but I appreciate and thank you for what you're saying and what you're doing on here on UA-cam so I'm going to study my ass off to pay attention what you do so I can help myself because I'm tired and sick and broke I put into work every day of my life and hard work and I see I want to do it myself that's why I don't want to work for a company no more I'm glad I work for myself on the weekends but I realize that I am very cheap and I need to have a big back bone so whatever Landscaping anything I get my hands on to I have enough climate to start off with I'm realizing that I could do a lot better and be more on track and get really big I want to grow so you are definitely one of my mentors to watch to keep an eye on to help me give me guidance for the best

Its up to you if you want to volunteer your time or offer it at a reduced rate. Its good to help people but you should dictate what those circumstances will be. Often when people first start off in business they underestimate the costs and time associated with running ther business and dont charge enough.
