      @MichaelKingsfordGray you are forgetting the 3 million dollar kickstarter to develop a device that is thin enough fit just about anywhere, bendable, able to hold on to tiny carbon particles. And the best thing, it is made only from a renewable resource, Wood, so it's gonna be super cheap to make! I call it, the Hyper tablet. And of course another one million dollar kickstarter for the device to distribute those particles onto the hyper tablet. I present to you: the hyper stylus! Just like the hyper tablet it's made from the renewable resources wood, and it can even be equipped with advanced technology to remove the carbon particles without damaging the hyper tablet! If you back 200$ or more, you get to be one of the first people to get to buy the hyper remover accessory!
      Of course, make sure to save up a little for our upcoming accessory, the hyper-straigtener, which will guide your hyper stylus to make lines that are so straight, they could have been drawn by a computer, and using the lightweight and durable material plastic, we can even make it transparent, that way, you can see your work on the hyper tablet underneath the hyper straightener. we already have plans to develop this device even further, into the hyper measurer, which can not only help you make your lines super straight, but it also uses hyper ink to display lines on the device to let you know exactly how long your line is!

Not feeling hungry, 1000 calories a day... he wouldn't wanna hear about diet throughout his life, he wouldn't do it if he felt hungry all day...

    • @WolfPrecision123

      Diet is the accumulation of all things an organism consumes. "Dieting" is just changing your diet, by changing eating habits the only way you lost weight is either more energy expedure or less consumption, in your case consumption et voila you dieted. 😅

      Exactly what I've been doing myself, down 5kg (~10lbs) just by making little adjustments. Measuring what I'm eating and keeping track have also really helped, I've become a lot more aware of when I'm eating not out of hunger but out of boredom or just having food near. Plus I'm still splurging on occasional bottles of wine or fish and chips, I'm just being aware of how many calories that is and making up for it in other ways.

    • @morpheas768
      @morpheas768 5 років тому +2

      It is basically a matter of habit, you are correct.
      Once you get used to a new diet, its actually pretty hard to go back to your old one, even if your old diet involved eating the "good stuff".
      What Thunderf00t talks about in this video, is true: When your body adjusts and gets used to the new diet, then going back to stuffing yourself with food is pretty hard.
      I've estimated that I eat about 30% less than I used to, and not only did that bring my weight down to normal levels (not overweight) but also, I cannot (even if I try) eat as much as I used to.

    • @Robbedem
      @Robbedem 5 років тому +3

      That's why it's better to eat a bit less (like 100g per day) and keep doing it for several months.
      It will become a new habit without too much hassle.
      Most diets on the other hand, make you lose much more weight, in a short time (like several kilo's in 1 or 2 weeks). After that, you feel like you suffered enough and go back to your original intake or maybe even more to reward yourself for your austerity.
      This causes the jojo effect.

    • @JustaGuy_Gaming
      @JustaGuy_Gaming 5 років тому +1

      The big helper in that has always been to never take a diet you couldn't live with. A super hard core crash diet of nothing but carrots and vitamins might make you lose weight like crazy... but your not going to stick to it. Just like those weight loss meals that cost a fortune. No one is going to eat that for the rest of their life, so when their diet ends they have nothing to fall back on but their "normal meals" and thus gain it back.
      For me I just looked at what ate, how many calories it had and what I could live without the easiest. For me it was soda, and to a lesser extent sugar in general. Soft drinks generally have 140-180 calories per can and you can easily drink several a day. 500 or more empty calories per day because you had 3-4 cans of Pepsi is a joke and an amazing way to cut back. Drinking nothing but water isn't easy at first but honestly you get used to it.

    • @medexamtoolsdotcom
      @medexamtoolsdotcom 5 років тому +6

      It turns out overpopulation is deceptive, it is mostly an artifact of an aging population. In fact, young people are breeding slower than ever. Did you know the average fecundity in Japan is 1.4. ONE POINT FOUR. At that rate, the population will go down by 30% every generation. And it's less than 2 in many first world countries, including USA. Overpopulation isn't actually a problem in the first world, it's only in the 3rd world shitholes that it is. And the #1 thing preventing overpopulation is...... feminism. It teaches women to hate men, and men to stay TF away from women.

    Ive done a rather more intense/extreme version of this, losing about 38kg in the last 6 months or so. It was more along the lines of starvation of solid food, alot of water and suplements so as to give the body what it needs aside from fat and sugar - which it obviously had to take from reserves. It worked well, coupled with alot more exercice than I did before. It´s fun to see this new video on the subject, as the initial ones you did a while ago were part of my inspiration for doing this - especially on the "how".
    I have to agree whole heartedly : weight loss is a simple matter, if not an easy one. It depends solely on personal willingness and self discipline over an extended period of time and most people could do it - you know, unless some major health problems prevent exercice.

A few months ago I used to be obese (BMI over 31) and all I did was eat only food with a low glycemic index(the only exception was 2 bananas a day) and walked over 5 miles a day. I lost 14 kilos in 2 months just like that.

      Its not that you should simply eat smaller meals, but that you should physically eat less meals. Like 1 meal a day. Simply eating smaller meals will cause that gnawing hunger pain most report on their diets, and causes the rubberband effect. (A chemical in the stomach is responsible for the hunger feeling, and is typically absorbed by food or simply not produced if the stomach doesn't feel like it should be expecting to eat at that moment. Eating smaller meals leads to an imbalance where the chemical builds up overtime.)

BUT over the past year I've noticed my weight slowly creeping up and I weighed myself at 162 lbs about a month ago, which makes me feel so depressed. People can put themselves through hell and ignore hunger for a few months but long term this won't work for the vast majority of people. Will power doesn't really work either. It takes lifestyle changes. Plant foods are lower in calories and higher in "bulk" 400 calories of plants fills up your stomach setting off stretch receptors. 400 calories of say KFC doesn't fill it up half way. So you eat twice as much (now 800) to get those receptors to tell your brain you're full. Oil is terrible. 120 Cal per tbl. It's in a sense calorie restriction but it comes with the territory when your food is calorically dilute. You must eat more when eating mostly/only plant foods.

    For me, dieting has come down to realizing that my eating was not primarily hunger based. Instead eating was (is) configured around time based reward entitlements.
    Let’s acknowledge that eating is a pleasant, and therefore rewarding experience. At certain times of the day I am entitled to certain rewards. If I do not get those rewards in sufficient quantities, I feel deprived. I am not feeling deprived in the sense of starving or even particularly hungry... instead I feel deprived of the amount of reward I am entitled to on the schedule to which I am accustomed.
    I do not eat more because I am at risk of starvation. I eat more because it is a self indulgent habit. And, imo, it helps to identify over eating as what it is: self indulgence, rather than a natural expression of the need for self sustenance.

    @marcus3d 5 років тому +63

    You're not taking your expenditure into account. For example, if you reduce total caloric intake but consistently have plenty of insulin in your blood (for example if you eat many small meals per day) your fat storage cells won't release fat into the bloodstream, so you're starving your body of fat, so your rest metabolic rate slows down, making you feel weak, hungry, and cold (because your brown adipose tissue shuts down), and also causes gluconeogenesis from protein. OTOH studies have consistently shown that if you have normal caloric intake on some days and zero caloric intake on other days your rest metabolic rate stays high while your body uses your fat reserves on the fasting days.
    So yes, it's calories in vs calories out, but depending on the rate and kind of calories in that calories out value will change and also drastically change the effect on your body.

As long as your fasting period lasts past your glycogen stores emptying and intramuscular triglyceride depletion you're gonna burn fat. After watching your video series on losing weight, it put me into the right mindset to start my own diet. Managed about 12kgs in 8 months. It was kinda stupid how simple it was, I wasn't even eating "diet foods" rather just the right amount of junk food to keep loosing weight daily but always ended my day with a smile and a beer. I didn't add more exercise, already did the equivalent of roughly 1.5h of walking a day to commute, but even with that I never lost weight until I addressed the caloric intake. I was eating too much of the right stuff for 10 years, gaining roughly 2kgs a year when I should have been eating just enough of the bad stuff instead! Back to eating like a sensible person, but I have noticed that I don't eat as much as I did before the diet. and weight has been stable for about 6 months now. Figure I'll try and keep things stable for a year, and then try and reach my "ideal" weight by losing 12 more kgs.

    In my experience of weight loss I found the opposite. While the food cravings and the feeling of just wanting to give up are the strongest in the first week or two, you also see the biggest results. By simply being more active and cutting most sugars out of my diet (no more soda, candy etc) I lost about 5 pounds within the first month. Since then it's been a slower grind and the urge to just give up is much higher. I have since lost over 30lbs in the last year, but have more than 40 to go before I hit my medical "ideal weight".
    As for weight fluctuations I find it most accurate to do it every day at the same time. Ideally in the morning after you void your body, but before you eat breakfast. That way your as empty as you can be naturally and you don't have to worry about a heavy meal sitting your stomach or your intestines being backed up. It's surprising how one trip to the bathroom can cause you to lose 2-5lbs depending on just how long you've held it.

Less stressful than extended caloric restriction in my experience. Hormonal control is key. You cant beat thermodynamics, the breatharians are insane ;).

      Exercise isn't necessary to lose weight. Caloric deficit is what causes weight loss. All these people you know were doing was maintaining a calorie deficit, if you eat 3,000 kcals and do nothing, keto or no, you won't lose any weight. Add the fact that the ketogenic diet is often based on atherogenic and cancer causing foods and you have a terrible diet only popular because it encourages you to eat poorly.

    I enjoy your content thunder but I dont agree your 'McDonalds diet" was equivalent to SuperSizeMe and disagree when you make comparisons. You state that you ate McDees whenever possible. This is not the same as exclusively eating mcdees. You supplemented your diet, he (supposedly) didnt. Certainly the documentary had incentives to be entertaining and cater to people's biases to sell movies. But he clearly had a noticable change during the documentary that is indisputable. Dont make videos supporting weight loss and in the same video say McDonald's is fine. Its shit food full of salt.

    • @marcus3d
      @marcus3d 5 років тому +4

      It's not that you lose appetite, but rather that when the body ramps up the fat burning it's getting quite a lot of energy from that and reduces the production of ghrelin, which is a hormone causing the feeling of hunger.

  • @PayneMaximus
    @PayneMaximus 5 років тому +4

    But our bodies are not thermodynamic engines. We cannot escape the laws of physics, but the problem is that people think that by doing fad diets they will lose fat weight; however, why would our bodies do that?
    There are many other places from where we can lose weight: lose water weight, bone density, muscle mass, and finally the fat tissue, which is what we all want to shed off.

    • @marcus3d
      @marcus3d 5 років тому +1

      If the diet is one that allows fat to be released from the storage cells into the bloodstream and then get oxidized then that diet will probably make you lose fat if your caloric intake is low enough.

      I think that's the idea of the keto diet. You cut out most of the carbs so the body has to make it's own carbs from your fat intake. This ramps up your bodies ability to convert fat into energy, which as well directly helping you use up your fat also allowing you to power your body and especially your brain when your calorie intake is low.

I'm not uncertain about it, but saying that several factors are involved here, so it also depends on what you eat and how you exercise, sleep, etc. Any diet that fulfills the basic criteria will probably work, and the ones that fill all criteria will certainly work.

    Two years ago when I turned 26 I started to get a little overweight and I literally did this. Calculated my caloric intake and compensated for it, except I lost 30 lbs in 3 months, after which I borderline struggled to maintain and continued losing.
    Its like once I stopped eating as much, its almost like my stomach shrank and I physically felt like I could not eat more than I had been accustomed to during the "diet". Today eating a normal amount of food just feels normal. Eating a shit ton of food does not feel pleasant by any means.
    My point of this that one can over do it. What became difficult in the first couple weeks ultimately became way too easy.

    I've found that the most effective way for me to cut down on daily calories was to simply replace bread/rice/pasta/potatoes with tons of greens.
    It sounds obvious but after sticking to it for a week it's pretty easy to keep up with.
    The hardest part is when I play a lot of sport. Trying to find the balance of eating enough for my body to repair but not overdoing it

    Interesting stuff, TF! Must concede that metabolism is a bit trickier than that, however. You somewhat alluded to it when you mentioned your magnesium levels likely being low (4-6oz red meat once or twice a week will solve that).
    I've attempted to explain it like this: you can deliver coal to the power plant. If you deliver more than is needed then it has to into storage (i.e., weight gain). Alternately, you can just burn more coal off (exercise). Thing is, once you've build those storage areas, the boss is going to want to keep them stocked up. So a good change would be to ensure that you are removing the storage, which can often be hidden as it is within the plant and not outside. This is where fasting rather than caloric restriction plays a substantial difference.
