They just don’t want you to have bigger doors; hinges break, pistons fail often enough, it’s the only thing that drives me crazy about this game lol. Nice video!
I once discovered that you can use pistons to make hangar doors anywhere from 10m (4 blocks) to any upper limit in size by using pistons, and they can be airtight using merge blocks. They're incredibly simple, though I think on servers they might cause issues with klang, and I once used them to make an enormous hangar. As an added bonus, you can prop the pistons back on spokes to that they can't get hit by splash damage, and to boot you can use hangar doors as well to help make them bigger and as the sealing portion. You can always also just use the large hangar doors mod
The 2nd and 3rd taller ones don't need hanger doors in the middle, just run them along the side. In essence you could have rotated the first design 90 degrees and added more along the length, same result
Alternatively just rotate all of them 90 degrees, it achieves the same result. From the initial example to adding however many more horizontally you want it remains 4 blocks wide. At that point you may as well just mount all the hanger doors horizontally. Same amount of doors but looks less silly. The only reason you would bother doing it the other way is if your build doesn't easily allow for the additional adjacent hanger doors in the recessed spaces.
@Pandemic Playground Besides space allowance for the recessed hanger doors, why wouldn't you just mount all the doors horizontally? Even in the case of the recessed space you could just adjust your build to allow the additional recessed doors. I mean, it's not like you are unaware of the four block limitation as you mentioned it from 11:38 so it seems kind of pointless to have additional doors oriented 90 degrees to the others. Besides the above and perhaps using it as away to potentially reinforce the corners of the doorways armour. The only other reason I've seen, that can be done fairly well in some cases, is aesthetics.
You missed one very big use for something which phases through voxels but is solid to ships and players: grabby hands. :P Seriously, Ive used them to create a large scoop for recovering debris after a battle. Fly down, open the belly hangar, close it over the loot, and roll as you lift so the debris falls into a grinder pit on the side of the hangar. Close the internals doors sealing that lot of debris, and turn on those grinders then move on to scoop up the next wreck while the last lot bounces around in the grinder room.
@@PandemicPlayground love your videos it’s fun watching/ listening to you while you while working through my own play through of the game. Thx for turning me on to the build vision mod among others… sooo helpful. The amount of times I couldn’t find a specific rotor or hinge to name ahhhh.
How about doing the one thing WE ALL do our best to avoid, summoning The Great Klang Master. Use every type of block that will cause klang to happen.

There's an overlay in the buildinfo mod that shows you the airtightness of blocks
They make good loading ramps for rovers *because* they go into the voxels.

Guess my mind was fixed with how it looked versus the practicality of it lol

How do you connect buttons to the doors
youve done nothing here ...it is 4 wide or 4 high so nothing done there sho me how you do 5x5
What is the building mod you have called
