The casual style of this review actually makes it incredibly useful because it gives me as a viewer the feeling of being at a buddy's house and he's showing you how useful his new piece of gear is. Overly formal reviews for gear have a place but sometimes 10 minutes pass and you still don't know what to think of the product, as they are so hands-off. This video touched on a lot of my questions about this amp and I felt like I actually interacted with it, due to the camera angles. I appreciate your straightforward approach.
If you want to gig with this amp, instead of using a mic, use the xlr's on the back panel. Also to use pedals or multi effects, you can plug it straight to the amp or use the effects loop on the back panel as well. If you want maybe some more low end than the Mustang 3, look into the Mustang 4 and 5. Great amps with more low end. But the Mustang III version 2(v2) is ideal. And using both the 2 button and 4 button footswitch is cool. You can program how you want each pedal to work. The 2 button can be programmed to function as a QUICK ACCESS to switch to a specific patch or it can control your delay and tap tempo. It's crazy how you can handle gigs with these amps. I've been a professional musician for 26 years and these amps are great for amateurs, or seasoned guitarists. It's practical in every sense. Just take the time to dial in a sound that you love. You'll find that you'll run out of ideas before the amp runs out of possibilities!!!!! ;-)
a few years ago, I ran my Mustang III into a 2x12 combo amp, using the Mustang as a pre amp. It sounded great. Very full / fat sound.....also using 2 amps really brings out the stereo effects.
This amp comes in red color which is what i have and is awesome, this amp does it all. if your in the market for a great amp this is killer all the way, i have had so much fun with it, i have used my ltd with seymour duncan pickups and emg pickups and it just produces awesome tones, easy to operate. I have a bc rich sc and i haven't used that guitar on the amp but i bet it will be a killer sound when i do. I have a black star amp that kicks ass but this Fender Mustang III is killer at 100 watts. You can use your smartphone to play music thru the amp, usb to hook up to laptop computer, mp3 also. I am almost 70yrs old and i felt like a 8 yr old when i got this amp, it is just that awesome to play. Stephen this is a great video and should be proud of what you have done.
I have played Vox & Twin Reverbs back in the '60's, & I had to buy the Mustang 3. Everything one needs without the hassle. An amazing piece of design & cuts out having 200 pedals!!
Just got my Mustang III in today and I'm loving it ! I still have a lot to learn on it but so far its been simple and easy. It's the best fender since I bought my twin reverb back in 67
I've had this amp for 2 years now and I absolutely love it!! I can play any style and get just about any sound and tone from it that I want. I use the Fender Fuse software regularly to tweak the patches for certain song. I was able to build a whole set list , in order, into this and save it. I just clicked up on setting after each song and bingo! I have the effects and tone I need for the next song. It also has plenty of power to fill most rooms but if you are micing up it doesn't matter. I have saved tons on pedals with this amp.
edrad23 I own one there great! on the fuse software can you have a compressor and an overdrive, on the amp it only gives you the option to have one or other?
Hey Guys, I'm a 57yr old drummer tryin' to get back to my guitar roots so I bought a fine honeyburst Epiphone Nighthawk & a Fender Mustang III. All I can say is WOW - this session has convinced me that I bought the right amp - was looking at a Champion 100. I didn't even realize half of the stuff this amp can do - just knew I wanted a Fender. Look out Eddie Van Halen - I'm coming for your crown...after I take Alex down! GREAT video review - thank you thank you
This is the first review I've ever seen where the demonstrator is in his pyjamas. Classy! From now on, I. feel all demonstrators should wear pyjamas. Yeah!
Steve, this is a great video for someone who just purchased any one the Mustang 3, 4, 5, Models. I have the Model 3 and 5 and couldn't have made a better choice! Great video and thank you for the lesson!
I just saw this just out of the blue. I like your casual kind of style and easy to listen to with good cadence and clarity. If you want feedback, just a bit more detail about functions and slow down a tad, but fantastic overall.
Just got the III, really love it, what great options and tones. I very much agree with your review. These amps are big bang for the buck. One of my best buys ever, just super fun and loud.
I had a Mustang 3 for a while but had to sell in times of money troubles, sad I sold it. Yes it’s solid state and we’ll always have the tube amp snobs out there, but for the money it’s a decent amp in my opinion, I got used one for £60 which was a bargain. Like most gear if you’re willing to spend a bit of time creating and editing your desired tones you can get some very good sounds from it. Plenty of effects built in if you choose to use or individual pedals works well too. I used this as a stereo guitar rig and this had a decent clean tone with a bit of modulation and ran my pedals through another Fender amp, I thought my guitar sound was really good, very big stereo sound which is great.
Straight to the point, clear and concise, decent amp content samples/ demonstrations. Was gonna get a Line 6 IV 150, strongly reconsidering. Fender IV seems to have superior quality and sound vs the Spider IV150 per my visit at the local music candy store.
Just played one of these at guitar center and it rocked I was really impressed!! Really easy to use, and the preset sounds were great!!! your right they did a great job here, im gonna add one of these to my collection!!!
I bought one of these a couple of years ago. The instructions I found on line just confused me. After watching this video I now know how to use it! I agree 07 (Johnny Marr) is beautiful and my favourite, but 17 adds tremolo. Obviously speed etc can be modified.
I recently just purchased my first electric guitar and a I purchased this amp. I use to only play acoustic. My buddy said this amp would be good to start with and fast forward 7 months I am not disappointed
Really good demo. You didn't concentrate too much on showing off your skills, or waffling. You spent your time giving necessary, useful info and demos on the amp.
Great video. Have one and wonder why more people don't appreciate these amps. Probably because they have hundreds of stompboxes and a 500+ watt amp tube amp, but of all the imortant effects a guitarists needs the looper is the only one missing. I only use it with the noise supressor pedal and that is only because my guitar is very noisy. Any stompbox such a delay on the amp you can modify any of the parameters that effect uses, and that is true of any other effect the amp has, overdrive, chorus, reverb, even flanger, and many more. The value for the price is just amazing.
I have the Mustang IV, I used to have a Line 6 flextone 3,previously I have had a fender twin Marshall 2x 12 your revue is perfect .I play a Les Paul std and I can say without fear of contraception this is the best amp I have ever owned. Do not shoot this amp down if you have never used one they are priced just right.Fender have got this range right. Thanks for posting
This is a great introduction to the Mustang 3 thank you for the video. A friend of mine brought one over to my house a couple of weeks ago for us to jam a little and I fell in love with it..... Needless to say I had to get one.... I am picking mine up this week.
Best demonstation i've seen i'm getting mine this week hopefully i can't get over this amp what it has and does amazing piece of equipment you should demonstrate for the companies your very astute explaining everything thank you for your support good playing also
Best demo of how the 4 button footswitch works on youtube! I have this amp and love it, I just got the 4 button switch. Actually the amp will work with both footswitches to make it even more versatile.
I see a lot of ignorant comments by people and I want to help you with the fact here. The Fender Mustang series amps are great for the money, very versatile, and so much more to it to make your own sound. I don't think people understand how much there is to this amp. I have the mustang III and I am completely happy with the purchase and I have been playing for 32 years. It does everything I want it too and it is definitely loud! Mic it and you are good to go. Thank you for the video.
I'm watching your video in 2017 and I just purchased this amp. Modelling amps have come a long way since your video, but the Fender selling point for me was the software. and the very active web forum that shares personal amp settings.
Liked the way you explained the 4-switch pedal. I have a Mustang III, so I'd be interested in seeing how the 2 switch and 4 switch pedals work together , if at all. Thanks!
Nice review, good job with the demo. I had no interest in modeling amps till I got a Mustang l in a trade. After playing with the Deluxe reverb model I went out and got the Mustang ll then the lll. I have a Deluxe Reverb Reissue and an original '66 DR. The Mustang comes close. I set the sag to the lowest setting and the bias hot and you really feel like it's a tube amp. I got the 4 button switch and use it along with the 2 button, almost like having a pedal board.
Hi Stephen I gave up gigging a while ago (getting old ) I used 2 Fender twin valve amps on stage but now I record in my small home studio I have ordered one of these amps for recording hope it meets with my requirements thanks for the demo !!!
Thanks Stephen! That was a great demo and the amp looks very suitable for my purposes. I have a Vox AC15 and I'm pretty bored of it and out of cash to purchase tens of pedals. So why wouldn't I go for this one and save my money for guitars instead! :)
I just picked up this amp last friday, i love it.. i swear to god ive owned tubed amos and there is no comparison between this amp and a tubed amp.. best 300$ ive ever spent. And this baby is LOUD!! but crystal clear no matter now loud you crank it its clear and its got enough umph to feel it in your chest when you turn it up.. very nice review btw..
The 2 button footswitch is not only up/down preset, you can set it functionallity. For example: Quick acces 1 / 2 (jump to two different presets) and also it can be used to turn on/off two parameters of the preset you are using. So you can use it as a normal footswitch to turn on overdrive, delay, modulation, reverb, etc.. :)
I was gonna buy a Vox vt 80+.Then I found this. Now its mine. The display on the amp did it for me. I might read the info booklet someday. For now I'm still exploring the amp models and have barely even got into all the combinations of them. The software that came with it is just another plus. I can't believe how much fun this is. I'm going to be exploring new sounds for a long time. AND recording .
Hey Man, Excellent video,I got one of these amps a month ago and the sounds are fantastic ,I also bought the 4 button pedal but I didn't realize so much could be done with it till i saw your demo. To anyone contemplating buying one at the price it is a steal. The fender Mustang floor (pedal ) is more expensive than this amp and the amp provides all the same sounds as the pedal Buy and enjoy.
Nice in depth review! Thanks. Question, can you lower your MP3 input sound so you can hear yourself playing over the song enough to not be drowned out?
I bought a used one for $100 and I agree with you that it is absolutely the bomb with a purchase of the four switch pedal for $30 off eBay and it is my main amp I am just a home player for most of the past two decades but I used to play in a bar band in the eighties I have similar taste for classic rock ZZ Top
Thanks Stephen, this was helpful, I have been thinking of moving up from my Mustang 2. These amps are very versatile and easy to carry. And you save on effects pedals big time. Very good review!
Thanks for the demo good Job. I'm very happy with mine and just bought the 4 pedal switch that really gives me everything I want and complete access to all the effects at the press of a switch. I wasn't as impressed with the software. Preset effects could have been better organised so I could move up through the presets without screaming feedback. The loud presets should be grouped rather than random metal effect sitting in the middle of all the clean sounds. Stephen got to love the ZZ top.
Mine is the v2 model and it sounds incredible the deluxe model just is grate. I also used line 6 for years and had all the pods there was always something lacking. With this amp you just plug and play
This a very versatile amp for both studio and live playing. One thing that was missed when reviewing the 4 button pedal is it IS ALSO A TUNER! How cool is that? Not only can you tune from the amp screen but when you are on stage just press the far left button for 2 seconds. The sound of the amp will turn off and the lights on the pedal become your tuner and the note you are playing is displayed in the center. If you're flat the light on the left will be illuminated, if you're sharp the lights on the right will illuminate. The green light in the center means your string is in tune. As you can see this was designed for playing out live with the 4 button pedal set up.
I have this amp and YES you can plug a pedal in. The foot switch is not in line with the guitar. It plugs into the back of the amp. You can plug a pedal in the same way you do with any other amp. I some times use a wah wah pedal with this amp.
Thank you so very much for this comment. Some days it is just difficult to stay focused when all you see is unprovoked negative feedback. Great to hear something positive.
Hey Steven, good job. I've been gigging with the m3v1 for over a year now.It covers everything like you said. And a real back saver too. It takes a while to dial it in but once done it easy to set up patches for diferent rooms you play in. One little hint for you demo's, is show the foot controller as you're controlling it. ya know. It"s really hard to describe all the funchtions in such a short time but good job. I'm to shy to put up a vid lesson like that so kudos to you.
Thanks for the review, Ive owned this for over a month and love it. I had the cyber deluxe and enjoyed that but for less money this is excellent the modeling is fantastic.
Great review....well thought out and great detail. I know it was posted some time ago but Just ordered the V2 version of this amp. I have a Bugera V22 for tube tone (newish, so no problems, like the older ones) but recently joined a band, where the other guitarist has a Mustang III, so thought I better get something to compete.....
I use my Boss Me33. everything works except pitch shift and smart harmony, must be some digital interference. But the wah, expression pedal, auto-wah, and od/distortion work fine. You want to use the amp setting, not line, and use it as a manual stomp box (no amp models, take those out)! good luck. I use the Boss Phase for my VH sound because it's a bit better than the on-board phaser. You can also run two cables out of the ME70 and put them in effects return so you can use old patches.
@uoft93 Thanks! I bought the 3 today. The price with a coupon was $249! I almost bought a used 4, but it was $399 and they would not allow the $50 coupon. It will be shipped to the house later this week, they did not have them in stock at GC(very popular I guess). I can't wait to get my hands on it!
do a video on the mustang 3 showing what multiple things it can do using both the 4 button and 2 button footswitches both hooked up. Fender site is really lax at showing that . GREAT VIDEOS
I agree that Fender has some good stuff going on in modeling amps. I own a Fender GDEC modeling amp, which has some good tones... but I always had trouble with the data dial and it finally wouldnt change patches for me. I took it in under warranty... they sent me another, and the display went out on it. So, while I want to love these I have a big problem with stuff that breaks on me. Now I have no practice amp at all and that just sucks.
I just got one of these at a steal price from a music teacher, and I am delighted. Needs some time to learn how to tinker with it, but even at a new item price, I honestly think US$300 for such a functional and versatile amplifier, Fender is getting ripped off by customers, lol. Loud as hell, I haven´t gone more than 2,5 on the master volume, anything more than that and it is goodbye to your windows. A great amp, this one is going to stay for many years.
The tune at 7.20 is 'Give me three steps' by Lynyrd Skynyrd... has great solo I have a Mustang 1 which great for practice. I also play it through a value amp like a Fender Floor. The modelling is excellent. I'm thinking of getting this too as it's so light and easy to move around.
Can you do a video on saving and re-naming a preset? I know how to re-name it, but I can't figure out how to backspace to get rid of extra letters in the original name.
Yes you run an android phone the same way plug into aux in. And I do still use the amp daily. Now that the price dropped I grabbed a Mustang Floor processor as well. Great for gigs with a good PA system. Snd the expression pedsl rocks
I bought 2 of them running them through my gt 10 they will blow your mind,im using my tones from the gt 10 running them stereo , im not uning the patches on the amps. this video will not do what you here on here justice you would have to here it to believe it!!!!
I really like this amp. Solid State has come a very long way... Why I like it is because it nails the Fender clean tones of some of my favorite amps. I have always used tube amps, but to get the most out of a tube amp, you have to bring it to the volume that it wants to run... That doesn't always work either at home, in the studio or on a gig. I use IEM's while playing live and I can tell you, it doesn't matter how loud your amp is... or if it even has speakers. That is why God created the PA System... :-) All I need to hear is my guitar in my IEM's.
Thanks for the demo - 12 years ago. This must be the original version 1 of the Mustang 3. My question is: Would the version 2 be much better as I see the v1's quite often going for affordable prices. I don't gig so would just use for jam sessions, practise, etc. TIA. 👍
I've had the Mustang III v 1 since they first came out. Over the years, I haven't had any problems with it. I've done a factory reset a few times when I just wanted to start from scratch, but save my favorite presets on my computer's hard drive. I also have the 5 button floor switching and the Expression pedal that was made for it. It's very versatile.
You seem to be the only one answering questions about this amp. This amp is my first one and the amp alters my loop station. So I set my station for one thing and when I try to solo over it with a different affect, it changes so both have the same sound. What can I do to keep the cord progression one sound and my solo a different effect? Thanks for posting and answering questions.
good video very complete I will buy one but which one iii or iv to play at my church is it about 100 chairs ,which sounds better and loud recommend me one please
Great Review, you have a talent for making reviews interesting. Couple of tips IF possible it would be great to hear the amp through proper mic placement, and if you could bring the camera a bit back at points so that it stays focused. Keep it, you're doing a great job!
Thanks for a great review, I know that although this is rated at a 100 watts but it is more like 25-30 watt real world (if that) any old timers out there who ever owned a REAL Twin Reverb Black face or Silver Face, and tried one of these new Mustang 3 or 4 live on small gigs? I know these new Mustang amps have great features but do they have that percussive clean punch like the real twin did ?
My point was that Fender SS amps have not been very good up to this point. I agree with you on the Ampeg and Roland Jazz Chorus though, super gear. I use this amp mainly for recording, as it gives me options and tones that otherwise would require a huge pedal board to produce. But, for live shows, my main rig is still my Peavey Classic 50 212 tweed tube combo, a Jemini distortion pedal, and a Polytune mini. But thanks very much for taking the time to watch and comment.
2024.....still gigging with this amp......amazing 😊

It's so casual I'm convinced he was just sleeping in that dog bed! Have this amp, and enjoyed the video!

Nice review,. Using the Fuse software, their are a bunch of different Cabs to choose from. The only thing it’s missing is a external speaker out.
I am still exploring my Mustang V's capabilities, and I have it quite some time now. This amp kicks ass. The versatility is unbelievable.
I just bought one of these m3's and it's incredible. Great presentation and review
Great review helped me choose the III V2, thanks so much
.. thank you .. its May 2022 now lol .. and I'm thinking about getting the 100w Mustang 3 V2 available at my local store
Great video! I just bought a mustang iii last night. first time ive strayed from a trusty tube amp, but i really love it so far! rock on.
Good review. I have a Mustang 3 V1 and I love it. Practice or gig, it can handle either...

I have a Deluxe Reverb Reissue and an original '66 DR. The Mustang comes close. I set the sag to the lowest setting and the bias hot and you really feel like it's a tube amp. I got the 4 button switch and use it along with the 2 button, almost like having a pedal board.
This was really helpful. I was on the fence and now I am sold!
Always great to know a demo helped someone. Thanks for the feedback.
Hi Stephen
I gave up gigging a while ago (getting old ) I used 2 Fender twin valve amps on stage but now I record in my small home studio I have ordered one of these amps for recording hope it meets with my requirements thanks for the demo !!!
Thanks Stephen! That was a great demo and the amp looks very suitable for my purposes. I have a Vox AC15 and I'm pretty bored of it and out of cash to purchase tens of pedals. So why wouldn't I go for this one and save my money for guitars instead! :)
Markus Mikkola
I know exactly what you're saying...
Just picked up a Mustang iii v.2 for 2 bills. Downloaded all of Shane's patches from intheblues. Lovin' it.
Great vid....I am about to purchase a Mustang III after watching this !!!! I am now convinced....
Hey Man,
Excellent video,I got one of these amps a month ago and the sounds are fantastic ,I also bought the 4 button pedal but I didn't realize so much could be done with it till i saw your demo.
To anyone contemplating buying one at the price it is a steal. The fender Mustang floor (pedal ) is more expensive than this amp and the amp provides all the same sounds as the pedal
Buy and enjoy.
I got one and I loooooove it!! Not a Marshall but sure easier to carry around and it does the job.
Still got one. Still wqorking but needs cleaned. It's special, especially on a budget.
Nice in depth review! Thanks. Question, can you lower your MP3 input sound so you can hear yourself playing over the song enough to not be drowned out?
LOVE my Mustang 3....Good review!!
Cool demo. I have one (mustang 3) and love it.
Thanks Stephen, this was helpful, I have been thinking of moving up from my Mustang 2. These amps are very versatile and easy to carry. And you save on effects pedals big time. Very good review!
Thank you very much. No matter what, keep playing.
+Stephen James (uoft93) You bet Stephen, enjoyed your playing. I plan to get the Mustang 3. Thanks again and ROCK ON!
MrSouthsideJohny that's really cool
I have this amp and YES you can plug a pedal in. The foot switch is not in line with the guitar. It plugs into the back of the amp. You can plug a pedal in the same way you do with any other amp. I some times use a wah wah pedal with this amp.
realy good review i wonder if you could go into detail on the fuse thing
I love this amp!! Bought one about 3 months ago, just great!!
Edward A do you know if it has tube or regular system?
Oh and you probably know to ignor the jerks here right?
Dave Olsen See ya on TGP.
Thanks for this video as been debating if I should buy the Mustang and this has gone a long way to help me decide to buy the Mustang III. Thanks
@uoft93 Thanks!
I bought the 3 today. The price with a coupon was $249! I almost bought a used 4, but it was $399 and they would not allow the $50 coupon. It will be shipped to the house later this week, they did not have them in stock at GC(very popular I guess).
I can't wait to get my hands on it!
Good video. Got what I wanted to know about the amp out of it ... and it was entertaining and honest.
do a video on the mustang 3 showing what multiple things it can do using both the 4 button and 2 button footswitches both hooked up. Fender site is really lax at showing that . GREAT VIDEOS
they have a head phone jack you can also plug your mp3 player in or a drum machine or your laptop for your backing tracks.
Glad you mentioned the VM. It has a really nice tone. The Mustang looks good though.
The tune at 7.20 is 'Give me three steps' by Lynyrd Skynyrd... has great solo
I have a Mustang 1 which great for practice.
I bought this today, think I like it better than my vox ac15c1. Will let you know if the honeymoon period ends.
i have one i think it does u can get your own presets online and make your own so you can get almost any sound
nice review man, digging what I see and hear so far.
definitely considering getting this as a practice amp
Great Review, helpful for me. I am new to the Mustang III.
I was thinking of going for the Fender Mustang 5 head as well which has the same things this does. I think you've just sold me brother.
I have the white version, loud freaking amp
Yes you run an android phone the same way plug into aux in. And I do still use the amp daily. Now that the price dropped I grabbed a Mustang Floor processor as well. Great for gigs with a good PA system. Snd the expression pedsl rocks
I bought 2 of them running them through my gt 10 they will blow your mind,im using my tones from the gt 10 running them stereo , im not uning the patches on the amps. this video will not do what you here on here justice you would have to here it to believe it!!!!
Great explanation of the pedal too...thanks
My question is: Would the version 2 be much better as I see the v1's quite often going for
affordable prices.
+leo cal maybe use the fx loop to insert your looper
Great review..thanks a lot..just got mine today..
Great review man! Kinda chill feel to it, just straight up.
I love it! watching from Amsterdam
thanks for the feedback man
Cheers mate! I Was undecided between the 2 & the 3,but i think i'll go for the 3 now.Nice One!
good video very complete I will buy one but which one iii or iv to play at my church is it about 100 chairs ,which sounds better and loud recommend me one please
Great Review, you have a talent for making reviews interesting. Couple of tips IF possible it would be great to hear the amp through proper mic placement, and if you could bring the camera a bit back at points so that it stays focused. Keep it, you're doing a great job!
I have this amp for about a year now. Great amp.
Great review love it thank you
i like solid state above its got the tone for grind core and whatever below
It comes with a 2 button switch and you can get the 4 button pedal and run it at the same time.
This baby will be mine next week, I hope it lives up to the hype
