- US band Blondie scored 16 chart hits here in Britain - including SIX number one hits. This was their very first #1, reaching the top spot February 3 1979 and staying at the top a whole month.
Absolutely the greatest song from the late 1970's!! It's the ultimate party and dance song, and it's beautiful at the same time. It fills me with great joy. Fun to sing too; I finally learned the lyrics after all these years.
I can't believe how wrong I had some of the lyrics.....😂😂😂🤪🤪
@Expedient_Mensch bruh you don't even know. I'm tripping out. Lol wtf Was I even thinking. 😅😅😅😅😅😅
For "lost inside, I was hearing "lass dir Zeit " (Which doesn't make much sense in an english song)
)
I thought it was just me! 90’s Pearl Jam was just as bad 😂
@@stacymorris2570 even blows, for the man my life I know, life I know. Free me, eating food on the concrete, with friends. 🤣🤣🤣 lmao. I'm mucho shocked with a heart with gas.
1979...13 yrs. old..huge crush on this woman...Probably still..
Takes me back to the 80s while roller skating good times damn good times
You're not the only one🤘🏻😁
Yup… skating rinks was the first thing that came to mind
@@benquartermaine1171It is weird they became so popular in the 70’s since they were invented in the 1800’s.
I had a pair of those horrible all metal things from the 40-50’s.
I always preferred skateboards and surfing. But I wasn’t a teen until 88.
I misheard every single lyric for the last 40 years. My version was a bit odd...
Haha - don't worry Mark. You should check out the Peter Kay video, "Misheard Lyrics" on YT. It's hilarious.
Lol it happens. What matters is how the song made you feel. Right?
@@1raffleticket Yeah, but I think I prefer my version...
@@1raffleticket there ya go
They's called mondegreens. Like the Beatles song:
A Girl with colitis goes by!
Every time I hear this song or the the tide is high I always think of my mom. My mom didn’t speak English but she love this song, mostly for the beat, I can picture her dancing to this song. RIP and dance in heaven because I will always be playing this one for you.
A lovely comment, Madeline - thank you.
yes the beat is amazing you mother had good taste in dance music
NJ
Honey me too?. My mom was the same but she died at 29
I agree your mum had good taste madeline. This songs has lot's of memories for me.Sorry for your loss.
There is no way i would have known what the hell Debbie was singing without reading the lyrics. Not that it mattered - esp when first falling in love with this song at 17 and buying the single. Actually discovering the words was a new adventure.
O Kay..kool
I feel like putting on my rollerskates! That is where this song brings me to! Cheers
I'll join you!
im in!
Not gonna lie, this is one of those songs ive heard a zillion times and never knew the name of it till someone told me I was an uncultured swine lol.
Haha - don't worry about it, my friend. Lots of us have songs that we carry around like that.
Mate I’ve been singing the lyrics wrong for years , don’t worry abar it 😂😂😂
Oh,I listened dozens of songs before my ('99) on the radio I feel the same.

I been listening to Blondie, since i was 9 yrs old. I'm now 51, that a lot yrs. Love ya Blondie 🤗

This is one of those songs you love to play over and over. I never get tired of listening to it.
Not only does she have an incredible voice but the drummer is also pretty incredible.
That's Clem Burke - very much in the style of Hal Blaine, member of The Wrecking Crew.
He sure knows his stuff!!
He certainly should ... he was part of a group which undertook an 8-year-long study of the physical and psychological effects of drumming on the artists along with the stamina required by top-flight drummers.
He also helped to keep Blondie together when Debbie Harry and Chris Stein considered disbanding.
RR KNL fun fact: the acoustic drums were recorded and put together in sync with a drum synthetizer to give a different vibe to the overall drum track in the mix.
Then i recommend to take a look at their live performances of 1979.
You'll be amazed by that, as I was/am.
Perhaps the most memorable songs by Blondie that defined my coming of age. I still get so excited whenever I hear it! My niece and her friends now love and listen to it nearly 40 years later. Deborah Harry was a great talent! :)
IS a great talent.
Another one of those songs I had to hide from my 70’s80’s rock friends. I’d never have lived it down. Now I am not embarrassed!
😂👍
I guess I had to come out. Lol
I loved going to aerobic classes in my early 20's. My instructor found the 5:30 minute version and challenged us to it. I remember my muscles burning & hurting before I made it through. The song still encourages me today -- I'll be 60 very soon. 😂
Same with me my birthday is this. Month August and I will be 59 love this song
Could never make out the lyrics, now seeing them here, I find them hard to memorize...odd wording. Great sound, love this tune.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment, Eric. Much appreciated.
eric brufatto Some of the lyrics are a little wrong but this is a pretty good attempt overall.
Exactly!
A lot of these lyrics are wrong.
She was French so her English wasn’t that good
Not only does she have an incredible voice but the drummer is also pretty incredible.
this song is still played in clubs
I never tire of this track...it's a total gem. Hope it lasts a good couple of thousand years into the future and people are still enjoying it. If you ever heard Debbie Harry and the band sing this live like I did back in 1999...it was magnificent!.
The BIG one for Blondie! On the local charts for 3 successive years! Entered the charts December 1978 - didn't drop out till February 1980! That's longevity! Thumbs up Victor! Cheers Tiger.
Having a problem replying here, Tiger. My replies keep failing to post. Hope you get this one.
Getting it loud & clear Victor!
I couldn't believe (when I heard this one the first time) that she was singing "pain in the ass" in the lyrics. Well, YT is being a pain in the ass this morning!
Tiger Rogers cool
Tiger Rogers awesome, grrrrr.
I remember sitting in my parents car in South Georgia late at night listening to radio stations out of New York and hearing this for the first time.
Wow. Brings back memories.
Damn sure wasn't gonna hear anything like this on the local stations in the seventies lol
“Hey eyes up here”
“Sorry love I’m just reading the lyrics”
I've read some funny comments, but that one had me laughing! Well done, Stinky! ("Sorry love" - that tells me you're British!)
@@sunryse111 I'm glad it made you laugh and yes I am British
Timeless song.....pure classic.
This is a true classic !
I’m 22 and I wish music was like this nowadays!! I only listen to the older stuff 💕💕
Haha - you're not the only one, Danielle! Is music today REALLY worse than the oldies I tend to post? Watch this video (when you have time) and see what you think: ua-cam.com/video/oVME_l4IwII/v-deo.html
Well, I remember when this was new stuff. It pushed aside the jam band/arena rock band stuff that was on the radio. This was rad and different. No long, boring guitar solos. Short, sharp, shocked. New Wave. New Music. Alternative. It is still great, isn't it?
Danielle Owens same I am 12
Yeah same!
me too
She was so darn pretty and had a voice to match, crazy that this is the only hit that I know of from her.
Some of their other bigvhits were:
"Atomic"
"call me"
"one way or another"
The Tide is High also a hit.
Maria
Rapture
I was stationed at Lakenheath in East Anglia with an apartment in Haverhill. Every time that I hear this song I think of the record shop downtown that I would walk to. The owner taught me so much about music...
It's a nice part of the world that I have only visited once. 1964. Where did time go?
@@sunryse111 I understand your statement. When I see videos of London, I am astounded at the change from 1977-1980.

Love BLONDIE!
So happy she was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame!
I heard this at Wal-Mart
2:03 that unexpected offbeat is just brilliant
It's not offbeat, the time signature changes from 4/4 to 7/8 during that instrumental part of the song

One of the best songs of all time!! 💓💓💓
This song is a legend , wonder why, the way she sings, her accent, it's was made for her...
Great comment - thank you.
Well she wrote the song with her boyfriend so I'm sure she had herself in mind as the singer for it.

sandra edmund what clubs are you going to
Epic dance song I could see why. Though I can't tell you the last time I heard this at a club anywhere
So many effects packed into one song and, it works.
Beautiful song....and Blondie sings it very beautifully....in anice peppy rhythmic music. I have known this song for ages now.....I may have aged...but the song and Blondie are both as fresh as ever . Thanks for uploading the lyrics here.
Бешенная энергетика! Супер! Блонди,вы лучшие навсегда!! Дебби Харри красавица! В её глазах я утонул и не выплыть мне. Навседа!! Потрясающая женщина!!
UUh ooohh (2:45) what a voice!!! It gives me shivers! Debbie Harry was a wonderful singer! Lovely woman! Very beautiful song! I love it!
Most people don't know this but if you listen to the drummer in Blondie in the beats he keeps. He's one of the best drummers that ever did it
One of my ‘go to’ tunes for the past **years..Love it! 🖤🤘🏼 Blondie rocks.
What she says is true for alotta ppl. So simple but wow she nails it.
Oddly upbeat for a break up song
A ploy used by songwriters for many a year, my illustrious friend!
I see getting past hard drug abuse.
I love the way it’s so nonchalant. Just very matter of fact. It was a pain in the ass. Lived it!
Jake State Farm keep telling yourself that
You have to believe you can do it
I started laughing when I thought she sang "I soon found out he was a pain in the ass" LOL!
But that's exactly what she DOES sing ....
I'm pretty sure the line is "Soon turned out,,, to be a pain in the ass." It's 3 syllables, quick pause, then six or seven syllables, depending on how you count it as the "to be" are almost sung as one syllable, as t'be. Anyway, The first set of 3 syllables clearly end with the word "out".
Vampire Slaughter Girl 😝😝😝you were not the only one
I think it is pain in the ass on the last one of the song. And it sounds like turned out... Not found out...
Vampire Slaughter Girl You're dumb
Debbie Harry and Blondie still rock. Love all their stuff.
Thank you, I finally know the real lyrics!......now I can't seem to memorize them since I've been singing my own version for sooooo many years.
So have I.
ROLAND CR-78 used on this recording brought me here! ))
Thanks a lot for sharing!
My pleasure.
one of the best ever tracks, just a great band, the others as well!
Thanks, you two. Have a good weekend.
I loved all their records. Can't believe that Debbie Harry is now in her 70s.
I can't believe I'm approaching my 80s! 🤣

I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
Awesome cut ! I remember hearing this song for the first time back in the late 70's. I had never heard anything quite like it ! Still a great cut today !

Very nice picture of Debbie
I was in love with Blondie at 11 years old. Holy shit...I still am!!!
Tremendous drumming, it really drives the song.
Finally found the song! So many years since I try to find it
My relatives called me Blondie my entire child hood after this band, however, I was a big fan!! Still am!!

Catchy song! I hear it as a soundtrack in movies and tv shows a lot, I keep forgetting it's from Blondie, and keep searching for it.

WHAT A GREAT COMPOSITION AND ARRANGEMENT, after all these years!!! 😍
Sweet blondie
Luv you blondie
This is a beautiful picture of a Debbie Harris ,who always keep the hearts of who knows her as a Blondie
Bless you 'Sweet Tooth' for bringing me here.
Great Sunryse111. That song was a hit here in Rio de Janeiro in the end of 70's. It's good to be able to sing, thanks for the lyrics.
This awesome song uses a (now) Dinky little (Well, Not so little) Drum Machine called the Roland CR-78. I love the way Debbie off-handedly describes how it was obtained in an interview: "...we still lived on 54th street in New York, and one day Chris and Jimmy went window Shopping Downtown and came back with a small Roland Rhythm machine..." Oh, Brother! ...:) BTW Dig the New Kit Kat commercial that completely rips off Blondie's Intro...
I'm 18 and this is my favorite song ❤
You have good taste, Simone ... rare in today's teens!

I've been listening to this song for a long time and it was always like a fun jam... But it's crazy to me how it hits differently now that I've gone through a devastating breakup.
Sad to hear that, my friend.

My pleasure, Heather. Thanks for commenting.
This song represents the epitome of twisting and contorting the English language ,to the point it's unrecognizable . So it will fit the music. Which is a practice ,that true musicians don't have to rely on.
I would give a golden star for Blondie's best songs: Heart Of Glass & The Tide Is High.
What about 'Call me"! A very lively song! From the movie American Gigolo, featuring the biggest hunk at the time...Richard Gere! He still is lovely looking!
So cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thx!!!!!

I dreamed I found a time machine that took me back in time. To CBGB I saw DD Ramone doing lines. When up on stage I heard the voice truly deep and fine. I watched Blondie rock the house when I went back in time.
Nice poetry!
Always love Blondie can anyone tell me her real name and when she started singing it seems like she's been around for decades and don't change. Her looks still beautiful!
Her real name is Debbie Harry and she began singing in the late 1960s. Her success came when she teamed up with her boyfriend Chris Stein to form the band, Blondie. Because of her bleached-blonde hair, no one realised for a while that it was the band that was actually called Blondie.
Love this song!
