- Fruits Basket 2019 Season 1 - a humble Yuki and Tohru video edit. It may not seem like it but I put a lot of my effort into this video, hope you like it!
Some fans are being insulted purely because they ship these two and it's sad.
Fruits basket it's my all-time favorite manga and I always ship yukixtohru at the beginning no matter how many times I read it.
In Season 1 Yuki IMHO can treat her better.

I love that Yuki is always looking out for Tohru, even though he does not seem to think he does. He looks for what she thinks first before deciding a course of action. He takes her feelings into account. Tohru is always looking out for him too. And they both are so cute together. He is always nice to her, she is always nice to him. They treat each other with respect. He does little things to make her smile or help her out. If we take into account the hat, Yuki was Tohru's first love. He sadly never told her about it. He led her home when she was lost and alone and she saved his heart when she made him feel needed.
I felt another reason he let her go because he saw where her happiness was, and prioritized that above all else. He also already had self-esteem issues so I think he also felt he was not good enough. He wanted the best for her and he felt that the best wasn't him, which just breaks my heart. He wanted to give her the world but felt that what he gave wasn't enough. They are both similar in this. And they just care about each other so much. I love them🥰❤❤❤

We all know that in season 1 Yuki treats Tohru not as a mother, it feels weird that he blushed real hard when Tohru called him Yuki-kun to the point of him transforming into his zodiac sign without getting hugged or even physical touch, that alone is definitely and absolutely not a motherly love, that is something else.
I hate the author/writer for breaking the hopes of Yukiro fanss ---she just got Tohru motherzoned--- I wud have accepted it if Yuki has a light crush on Tohru and then eventually fade since they both found their true love, but when I found out that Yuki only sees Tohru as someone like a mother, that is just so baddd.
Tohru helped Yuki when he felt lonely, he cheered him up and made him realize a lot of things, she even made him laughh which no one else did before, and Yuki was able to slowly get out of his comfort zone.
I just couldn't accept that he seees Tohru as a motherrr, that is so wronggg in so many ways.

" This is something a mother can very well do though. I personally still think it was written quite well.
I could honestly headcannon that he had a light crush in the beginning but after learning what he actually experienced was more that of what a mother would do to one probably was made so it was easier to make a straight cut against a possible Yuki x Tohru ship.
@@Hendrik_McSims If Yuki loved Honda like a woman then it is obvious that Honda would never reject Yuki I know even in season 1 of the series Honda started feeling for Yuki but Yuki is already out of the race that's why it became easy for Kyo to get Honda and Yuki is very perfect in everything than Kyo and I am happy for Yuki that he too has found someone for his life.
Maybe he just learned to start loving her in that way. And after seeing how Rin's feelings towards Tohru almost resembled his, as well as Kyo's and Tohru's little flirtation, along with others pressuring him to pursue her, he just allowed the feelings he had for her to just become that of a familial one. Maybe the author just wanted the YukixTohru fans to accept the ending similar to how when someone breaks up with you saying "it's not you, it's me".
Sorry if I'm not making sense. But though I know what inevitability happens I can't help but root for Yuki everytime he and Tohru have a moment.

lov_lymj When reading the manga and the mom resolution came up, I felt like it was a way to close doors for Yuki x Tohru shippers 🤣🙄 I agree though, some of those things he did are not what you would do to your mom. Lol.

The motherly resolution did seem a little forced onto me and I just couldn't really like it's conclusion as much. I think it wouldn't have been as forced if he said she was a friend or something like that, I think it would've given more growth to his character too, seeing Tohru as a mother just doesn't fit right with me.
It's funny how yuki was a second lead on the 1st season and suddenly he thinks tohru as a mom at the 2nd season. I ship them so bad that it breaks my heart and here i am again watching this video :(

Tbh I think he romantically loved Toruh at the start, but after seeing how she ran after kyo (when he turned into his true form) he realized that he doesn’t have a chance. You could tell how upset he was curled up on the porch the following day, and after this made himself belive that he loved her as a “mother”

The beauty of Yuki is that even though he loved Tohru. He saw her falling in love with Kyo even before she did. So he let her go and was there as a friend and nurtured her feelings and even helped Kyo. He probably was jealous and sad but he was gracious. Then meeting Matchi was a happy accident. It’s one of the many reasons I love Yukis character. Although I love Kyo and Tohru.
I do agree. This is what I thought too. I felt that he is hiding his real emotions trying to make Toro choose her way.
And I guess that was clear enough that the writer wanted us to know that too.

He knew that Kyo likes Tohru and he let her go, I think the mother figure is just a reason. That's just how kind he is he considered Kyo's feelings as well. Until he got busy being one of the school's reps and he met different people.. and this is where Tohru and Kyo's time were happening. this is kinda how they transitioned it.

Yuki sees tohru like a mother where he can lean to,who can he share his pain,joy and problems. I rlly ship them on half of the episode of season 1.Then Kyo sees tohru as a woman he falls for her warmth and kindness.. But now that we all know that Yuki is a match for Machi and Tohru is for Kyo.. it’s rlly sad but however it’s a wonderful match though.❤️🤧✨

He do have a kind of flirty nature towards girls like tohru. He also knows well how to attract a girl like tohru but he says that he don't know how he can patch up with people in society. Ryo isn't the most calm person as he is shown, the reason he is always calm is bcz no soma behaves rudely with him in fact ryo always talk rudely with kyo with no reason shows his arrogance, kyo does the same to ryo not bcz he is arrogant but he is frustrated of the ignorance for him among soma for his cat zodiac spirit and he is often considered inferior if compared to ryo. Fr it would’ve been better if he got rejected instead of that mother thing. 😭 For me, he was letting her go for Kyo and because she already fell in love with him. He’s always been like “ what’s important is what Honda-san wants”. But he never even got to express what he truly for her, always the nice guy. 🥺 At least, that’s how I interpreted Yuki.

That's the problem you think that isn't good for tohru because he is always rude, and don't to those flirty things with ryo does with tohru like calling her "princess" while putting ribbon on her head and much more. Beating the ryo isn't good for her bcz he never talk calmly with her but the reality is that he does have very strong feelings for her deep inside but their are some reasons that he doesn't talk calmly with her and don't do those flirty things.
1st reason is that when it comes to ryo and kyo was always considered inferior compared to ryo bcz he is a cat and even ryo always diss him with a silent arrogance on his face. Kyo is always shown very angry and selfcentered bcz he talks rudely but very few viewers realizes the ignorance and insult which he have faced but ryo didnt. He talks rudely in that frustration and don't do those flirty things bcz he have developed a mindset that everybody thinks that ryo is better than him so tohru does the same hence he don't find any reason to do those things with her. Imagine if a guy has very strong feelings for a girl but he knows that the girl is more interested in some other guy so why would he try to get close to her instead he will pretend to ignore her just like kyo does not bcz he hates her but bcz it hurts him so hard whenever he sees her having love with someone else.

In short I would say that most of the Anime fans like u I want to see anything from just an above layer. You like liked Ryo because you think he is very calm, kind natured and also sometimes flirts with her while Kyo is very rude and self centred without realising that what's the back story, why kyo does this with tohru, why ryo always taunts kyo with an arrogance on his face if he is really kind natured infact he is only kind towards tohru. You don't like kyo because he rarely talks in nice and calm way without realising the frustration he have with him bcz of the ignorance towards him among somas for being a cat, ryo haven't faced that ignorance among somas infact he is often praised among somas. And that's the reason kyo ignores the world including tohru but he really have true feelings for her.

I always shipped Yuki and Tohru together. After every moment they shared together, using excuse that Yuki thought of her as a mother just comes off creepy and disturbing. His feelings for her have never been any way related to familial relationships.

He would look at her and blushes discreetly. In S1 :((( I can’t make myself to finish it yet. It was hard for me to continue the manga, too, when I read it yrs ago. I wasn’t able to finish it because I spoiled myself of the ending. So I thought I should at least try to watch the anime reboot even though I already know who she’s gonna end up with. Ans while watching I was like “it’s okay don’t get your hopes up just enjoy the show” BUT I still couldn’t help myself from shipping her with Yuki. 😩😩😭 They’re just so great together it hurts. 😭❤️

completely agree, I think the mother thing was a cope, and machi (while I'm happy he could find someone to be with) will never be the same, I think till the end he'll love Torhu most, but she picked someone else, he just thought logically that it'll be try to move on or be miserable until old age... but if Torhu were to break up with Kyo, Yuki would jump in a heartbeat ... it's sad. There needs to be an alternative ending for us T_T... I'll just pretend they are together, they are most suited (personality wise, character, everything) .

Lets just say I prefer calm and cool boys rather than hot headed and violent ones. And please don't start abt how Kyo is better than Yuki. I get that Kyo is upset abt the way he is treated but Kyo has no idea what Yuki is going through, he thinks his life is best and he's the one living in hell but its not like that at all. I love Yuki x Tohru and when I found out about how he actually viewed her as, well I was sad about it but I just want both of them to be happy, and of course Kyo as well. They've all been through so much, they deserve all the love and happiness 🥺

I see some people literally minding their own business, making a Yukiru comment, and then some people come up and say "read the manga" and "he doesn't love her like that" or "Kyoru is better" and I'm just like: I read the manga, and it doesn't prove anything, I can ship what I want, and I will always be a Yukiru shipper. Its been making me feel sad and depressed. Like people shouldn't go looking to spread hate to other people's ships. It makes me sad too, since there isn't a lot of Yukiru fans or content to begin with.

I think yuki saying she's like a mother to him is a way to cover up his hurting and not to stop in her way since he heard her confess her love to kyo.. platonic or not, one thing that makes this ship superior is they have a precious childhood moment. i'm a sucker for those kind of trope where they met as kids and see each other again when they're already a lot older. even if the characters were not actually childhood friends as long as there's a mutual childhood moment, it makes the ship superior.
i like kyoru and we know how yuki see tohru later on in the series but i just got tired of the "tsundere x nice girl" type of trope. that's why i appreciate shoujo with diff kinds of male love interest like with horimiya or little monster aside from the typical tsundere type

Like man come on, after showing all those sweet moments in season 1, you suddenly want me to believe that there isnt anything between them, only motherly love. Sorry but i was literally too heartbroken to Accept this fact.
I also shipped them at the beginning and wow I got insulted by Kyohru fans and got so sick of their unnecessary spoilers.. and the infamous non romantic talk, you cannot tell a person what is romantic and what’s not pff we are different and I mean when Yuki’s past and his explanation wasn’t even given! (after that everything makes sense and you see everything click around the motherly relationship).
The point is that I CAN ship yukiru if I want like any other crack ship/ AUs based and at the same time I can see the beauty of the motherly relationship in canon! it’s something refreshing, to me is a platonic love well written and that’s what inspired the whole show, the ending it’s even better for that reason! I like how the ships ended, I wouldn’t change anything!

I honestly don’t ship them. Tohru made Yuki better like how he would have been if he wasn’t a soma or a zodiac member. But it didn’t happen so let’s not dwell on that. Tohru gave him the warmth that Yuki needed but didn’t get. If Yuki had at least one parent who looked after him, then he probably would have liked Tohru romantically like Kyo. But Tohru is a mother figure to him and in someways it’s better than them being a couple. Couple might break, friends don’t (unless you have a huge fight). When he needs help with his girlfriend, he can ask Tohru for help but if they were the ones dating then, he would probably be clueless. Tohru understands him but she doesn’t know how he feels if she doesn’t hear him say that or see it but Machi doesn’t need words to know how he feels, Machi and Yuki are kindreds and they understand each other better than anyone. Tohru is selfless and at times, too selfless. Kyo teaches and encourages her to go for what SHE wants and not what people want/wanted for her. These soon-to-be purples will/bring out the best in each other and that’s why they fit so well.

one important point, is that even if the story was changed at the end, even if some of you prefer Kyo & Toro paring it still fact that only Toro is the one who changes and helps Yuki a lot, only Toro who guide that lost kid nicely to the right side making him be full aware of what's right and what's wrong. Only Toro was able to remove all those negative emotions Yuki used to have. This is much more enough to her the girl he really wants and so happen with Toro when Yuki was the first one to know and help Toro. Thus the idea of changing the events of the story is only something no one should accept. Yuki must be with Toro , and Toro must be with Yuki. This is what I really see perfect. And the idea of making Yuki see Toro as a mother is really silly . How could he think that while Toro is cute , kind and also beautiful. This idea really give me a terrible headache 😫.
It broke my heart when I knew that Yuki isn't a male lead not even a candidate. I didn't continue watching since then and gradually forgot the storyline. Even though my friend tried to convince that SS2 is so good, Yuki's pair is cute, but I still cannot get over this.

well i just started watching this series 4 days ago,,, i completed 61 episodes of the three season in these little time because it was so good!!!!!!well i just wanted to give a lil bit of my pov regarding tohru and yuki...in the first two seasons in the initial episodes its quite obvious yuki had feelings for tohru but he did noticed that the bond between kyo and tohru was mutual,,it was not fully but quite clear he was been a lil bit jealous seeing them together and growing feelings of them towards each other but in the end he understood that tohru sort a belong to kyo so he made that theory which is also true to manabe like of motherly love but manabe got it right he gave up on her to kyo !!!!!i dont if anyone noticed that or not yuki was tohrus first love though in the end she was meant to be with kyo,,their bond waseternal and pure !!!!even now i am loving the bond of yuki and machi ,,its going naturally and purely....the way machi doesnt consider him great and actuallly airhead is really cool compared to maximum girls even tohru ....machi and yuki obviously make great chemistry ...... this anime is just amazingggg

Anyway some people might not notice this element and might think that there's going to be a love triangle, but Yuki and Tohru were never meant to be one other's love interest. You can see it, if you put aside for a moment the fact that you ship Yuki and Tohru, from three objective aspects: the difference between the behaviours, gestures etc. that Tohru has with Kyo and the ones she has with Yuki; how they don't behave exactly the same way towards her; and how they don't seek the same kind of love in her. The romance, the flirting is more natural between Kyo and Tohru, also because Tohru doesn't flirt with Yuki at all.
