Context; Instead of showing up to save the day, Mighty would be busy with something and wouldn't even know that Ray was in danger. As we know, the squirrel is not as strong as the armadillo and Metal Sonic's damage (surely) is quite serious so well, unfortunately, Ray dies from that attack... ...But strangely, Ray is still conscious... like some kind of ghost.
