      No, it's that he caught too much airtime and the wheel was able free spin to a cutout speed. When I ride my Shermax at 30mph and hit a big bump it allows to the wheel to free spin up to 40mph in half a second and activate my speed alarm.

WIthout the resistance one the wheel it just gets to speed up to its limits and causes shutoffs and thus these types of scenarios. Curious how the EUC industry will try to deal with this issue. I like your trail riding videos but your 'reviews' just suck. Like you said, this was the first time a new wheel underperformed your previous one, but why should they always overperform? You got overconfident, rode at the max speed offroad, made a simple mistake, crashed and then bashed the wheel for not providing more than it was designed for. Every wheel has different strengths and weaknesses and not taking note of those will make you eat dirt. It's a weird thing to be disappointed with something you don't know how to ride appropriately yet.

    bit confused at this one. Glad you are OK first and foremost! Not sure the wheel underperformed vs asking too much from it. I do agree that suspension wheels are prob more safe in this scenario. But riding any wheel at its limits in any situation can turn into this exact scenario. Not sure you can blame the wheel or what it was designed for. All wheels have a max capacity that lead to doom if they hit it. The same could have happened on a suspension/more powerful wheel. Albeit less likely. But i have watched people cut off every wheel out there.. even the most robust.

      100% certain that the wheel did all it could and should. Suspension could possibly help but also not granted. 2 things:
      - The wheel lost a lot of energy when going over that bump. It means that the wheel instantaneously slowed down but his body wasnt. No wheel could counter this situation. Every wheel needs some time / distance and grip to get back those km/h lost (he didnt have that when falling). You just need to ride safe and maybe suspension would help as only par of that energy would be absorber by damper without much body dampening. Here the energy was absorbed by tire and then by the body.
      - His knees got straight when the wheel got into the pod and then he was kicked from the wheel

As for this wreak I'm surprised a seasoned rider like yourself would blame this wheel for something you clearly misjudged the capability for. Obviously a non suspension wheel will not take to a high speed off road bumps like any suspension wheel will. Every wheel has its niche. Every wheel has its limitations and strengths.

      Yes and city wheel's suspension so far has been proven to be efficient and lightweight as long as they avoid sliders. The wheel tilted forward during airtime but you can also notice that the wheel landed way behind him instead of under him as you'd expect.
      It means that the wheel didn't have enough capability to maintain its speed over this bump, like it would have without issue at a lower speed.

      @@supercurioTube You should watch the moment around 1:22 at 0.25 playback speed. He actually did go airtime twice. When he was landing from the first airtime he bounced off the pedals and lost his balance. Wheel has handled it perfectly, but it has bounced as well and it went airtime along with him. Then he pushed the pedals down with his legs and this actually pushed the wheel behind him and tilted it forwards.
      When I watch this footage I'm actually impressed how well this HT wheel handles here. It seems like it has plenty of power and it handled everything perfectly. It it nothing to be improved in the wheel, it's just a human mistake. He was riding so fast that he bounced off the wheel after bump.

  • @supercurioTube
    @supercurioTube 2 роки тому +13

    Hey Chooch could you share a reframing of the 360 footage to show if it's a classic overlean/cutout, or if the cause is the tire digging into the soft ground on the bump?
    Edit: sorry it's already in the video at 1:21. The tire almost doesn't compress, doesn't seem to dig into the ground, and it's true that a bit lower pressure might have helped soften the blow.
    However it does look like overlean due to lack the high instantaneous torque and wheel acceleration required to handle this bump near max speed.
    The wheel kept spinning to try to regain balance as you fall forward but there wasn't enough headroom.

    • @ivanmorales3265
      @ivanmorales3265 2 роки тому +2

      I was thinking it cutoff too, but I think that bump was so big, and the pressure was so high that he hit and bounced and while in the air the wheel just started rotating forward because it was in the air.
      I just got to part where he said it too. Lol. The wheel free spun in the air and cutoff at max speed.
      Lol I think we did the same thing trying to figure it out

    • @supercurioTube
      @supercurioTube 2 роки тому +1

      @@ivanmorales3265 yes I agree we can talk about overlean but not cutoff since the wheel keeps trying to balance the whole time (as we can see from the trace on the ground) but can't due to lack of grip.
      However if the wheel had more safety & speed margin at that time, it would not have dipped forward while bouncing.
      Likewise if the riding speed had been lower (unknown how much), the available instantaneous torque would have been enough to bounce balanced and at the same speed as the rider instead of trailing behind.

    • @ivanmorales3265
      @ivanmorales3265 2 роки тому

      @@supercurioTube Maybe. But how fast would it have got spinning while he was off the ground? I think it still might have cut the power because free spin happens so fast. I don't know if another 10 mph would have helped but it's definitely possible

    • @supercurioTube
      @supercurioTube 2 роки тому +1

      @@ivanmorales3265 I looked again and what I see now is that the wheel slowed down more than him because of the bump.
      You see when they hit the bumps the wheel is under him, then progressively the wheel is behind him (no matter the tilt angle)
      That's ultimately the reason of the fall: the wheel unable to maintain its speed in this condition, as its energy was converted from forward to upwards. Only if the motor would have given loads of torque to re-accelerate forward the same it would have been avoided.

    • @LaggerSVK
      @LaggerSVK 2 роки тому +1

      @@supercurioTube i disagree with the euc torque, there is just so much what physics allow. He ride over bump at too much speed without suspension. A lot of euc energy was damped by his body and tire. The wheel also had bad contact for some time (basically flying) - meaning it had not much grip. He lost that in a 2-3 tenths of seconds the wheel has very limited time to accelerate those lost km/h back. Suspension would be probably helpful because it would decouple the wheel and body. The damper would absorb most of the energy without really overstressing tire and his lower body. Therefore, only some energy would be absorbed by damper and less energy by body , tire so the wheel would lose less km/h which could be saved.
      Another problem is that he got his legs straight when the wheel fell into the pod so he got also little kicked out.

Instead of that you ride full speed this wheel and complains there is no suspension on it. You know it cannot ride more than 37 mph and that there is no supsension. That is the deal. I mean, please just ride it of road in the 25 / 30 mph range, which is already huge for any random rider, take some jumps and bumps on it, corner it and whatnot, and tell us what it does and how it behaves, instead of destroying it right away.

Fell and did a 180 slide, shit hurt pretty bad, had to stay still for a few minutes since my whole body was aching, and felt like I broke my finger. My upper body was fine since I got a nice motorcycle jacket, my hip got pretty nasty since I had no protection there. Other than that I was fine, but man I'm thankful for the gear I have.

    Ouch! I dig your videos and Im glad your ok. I have the same Leatt knee pads as you, I bought them because they are what you ride. I did get my knee broosed when I went down with them on; whereas my 30 year old Pro Designed pads padded my knees much better in simular falls. The Pro Designed pads cost 2x more 30 yeats ago than the Leatt Cost today. I really like the Leatt neck brace though. It is very well thought out and protective at the same time as its comfrontable. Watching this video I wish you were wearing my Leatt neck brace, as I saw a lot of torque on your neck when you went down. One last thing. I used one of your links to put down a deposit on a S20 back in October, and I cant figgure out what company I have the reservation through. Any advice would be appriciated. If you promice you will wear a Leatt neck brace when you ride, Ill buy one for you.

The whole EUC market is going forward with those who ride for 5-7 years, but what about new starter wheels? For normal price and also safe wheels under 25-30 mph speed? Why can't we see modern, new starter wheels under 2000 USD or 2000 Euro? What do you think about that? What do you thing about the market should be focusing on new riders also not only experienced ones, not only high speed wheels? Thank you for the video, it was very enjoyable, even though sometimes it was hard to understand when you were speaking simultaneously.

    Start vid at 0:59, pause at 1:00. You can see the wheel pedal-dipped out. Like chooch visibly did manage to absorb the shock of the bump he impacted and stay on the wheel but the pedal dip turned into 40degree slanting yet more before chooch went into survival mode.
    That's a wheel cutout!
    And with KS speed limiting wheels 15 mph discounted the capabilities of the batteries, it appears a mix of firmware or may include missed beats from a hall sensor at critical timing. Bottom line, the wheel could not handle near full speed terrain. As for on-road terrain, potholes can be bigger than what chooch hit. Refusing to sell him a V13? Who wants a V13 after all that lack of acknowledgement and foul response?

    I guess there's no way to really know the answer to this, but how many people are racing their wheels (E.g., Apple Valley)? So I disagree with your assessment that high-torque wheels shouldn't be made unless they can go 45+mph. Choice in the market is good. If you can't ride within the envelop of a given wheel, then buy a different wheel (stick with the high-speed version of the V12).

    At 5:08 sounds like you are saying the regular V-12 would not have acted this way. Also, later I hear on one audio track that you are continuously "riding the beeps". Know you were pissed in the moment after the crash, but can't therefore place all blame on the wheel; it tried to warn you. Different horses for different courses, (eg S-22 for off road) so this, and the known speed limits of the V12 HT, are the parameters that got tested. With some unpleasant, but not unpredictable, results. Very sorry for your accident, hopefully no hip pain or other injuries.... For higher speed and off road, obvious choice is the +$1,000 wheel. Thanks for reminding me to listen to the beeps.

    100% on you with protection. You need to be always on safe side and personally will have to work on my gear.
    These are the type of situations that you dont want to get into (been there). No realistic amount of torque would save you there.
    From my point of view there was no cutoff. The wheel was powered until the very end (you can see the traces). The problem is that you were driving too fast for that tire pressure and non-suspension wheel on a rough track. It got into the pod, your knees straightened and in the bump kicked you up. During this process the wheel lost a lot of speed because of your body damping and moving to front. The wheel was substantial time in the air and without support so there was no grip. I saw a video of a guy falling similarly with S20 on stairs. There are physical limits and we need to know about them. Suspension wheel would help a lot and probably absorb that bump but its also not invincible.

      I think the pads job is only to soften the initial impact. The slide is a separate responsibility. All the good motorcycle gear is leather or abrasion resistant material, and the impact projection pads are on the inside. For them to work they need to be tight tight. That's the only way unless you wear leather/abrasion resistant material and put the pads on the outside.

    Protective gear is a MUST. All riders PLEASE don’t wait for a fall to wear your gear. The other thing I’ve learned throughout my years of riding is that High Torque wheel takes off harder and breaking is superior to non HT wheels. Another great point Chooch Dawg mentioned is that High Speed wheels 40+MPH , A Suspension can save you from a fall when you hit dips or potholes on bad roads or dirt trails. Learning how to read the road that’s in front of you can help a lot .
