    If Dyson gonna be charging 80 dollars plus shipping, AND hardly ever have their filters in stock then I'm not gonna be getting a genuine filter.

      Same. Generic filters are the only option since Dyson's filters are always out of stock. What is needed is a video comparing the dozens of different generic options to find which is the best.

    Without an air test I don't think the differences mentioned are relevant. The purifier has no way of determining the condition of the filter (e.g how long it will last etc) so saying "it lasted for this long" isn't really relevant.

    Thanks a lot for your tests. Would you say that the non genuine filter does a better job than the genuine one because the non genuine filter is a lot darker than the genuine one? If this is so, I would be ok with the non genuine filter lasting only 5 months.

    • @FeaturedTech
      @FeaturedTech  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, the reason why the 3rd party filter is darker is because it doesn't have the same net around the HEPA filter that the genuine has. I would recommend sticking with the genuine filter if possible to ensure that you're not potentially damaging the fan or voiding your warranty. If not, the 3rd party filters will do a good job as well.

    From my understanding of how filter life goes on the display of an air purifier, it normally goes by the amount of time it is used. Replacement of filter is usually "time based" from manufacturer's advice and it reminds the user to replace the filter based on a set timed interval. As for the Dyson, it should be no different. The air purifier is not smart enough or does it have sensors to determine the "dirtyness" of the filter. They can install an air flow meter , but i doubt any manufacturer would do that. This is based on the number of air purifiers i've owned over time including Dysons and many other brands and totally based on my own opinion.

      if what you said is true, this guy's most likely paid by Dyson to do this, even tell such lies about the filter life going down faster. This video is a waste of my time, should have known that. How shortsighted are people to risk their reputation just for some money, I guess integrity is just a scarcity in this day and age

      @@justacardshort Blueair , Honeywell are my preferred brands . Simple, none of that marketing gimmick from Dyson. Thick filters. The more filter material, the merrier. Most air purifiers work the same. Air gets sucked in and goes through filters and blown out. No high tech gimmick required. Keeping it simple makes my life easier.

    • @porschepal7932
      @porschepal7932 2 роки тому

      @@karltanner_2436 The actual filter life and when the machine tells you to replace it are two different things. Cheaper filters don't last as long but they are so much cheaper that it might be worth it to just replace them 2 or 3 times in the amount of time that it would usually take you to replace just the 1 genuine.

    • @j.ballsdeep420
      @j.ballsdeep420 Рік тому

      There are actually air quality sensors of PPM outside and inside modern units, though you are correct of MOST units in general. That said some actually can sense how clogged/reduced filtering the unit is providing. Just saying

    You can just cut and tape a mosquito screen on the non genuine filter and be exactly the same. I’m sure they left it off for trademark issues along with the name… I was thinking about buying another real replacement filter but I just vacuum washed it off and put it back in. Looks good to me… I’m sure they are both “MADE IN CHINA” anyway.👍🏾✌🏾

    How does the Dyson fan knows if the filter is plugged up? I reset the filter in the fan without replacing filter and it did not show that the filter is plugged ip

    • @FeaturedTech
      @FeaturedTech  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Sebi, when you reset the filter, you reset the percentage remaining until it needs to be replaced. Therefore, if you’re resetting the filter without putting in the new filter, you’re confusing the fan and potentially damaging it.

      After watching, I tend to get the genuine one due to scare of damaging the machine.

      No problem, I appreciate the suggestion regarding the filter performance test. Unfortunately, that would be somewhat difficult because where I have the fan placed, there is very little pm10 or pm2.5. Therefore, that test wouldn't be helpful. As far as which filter to buy, I recommend sticking with the genuine ones if you can. If not, go with the the other ones if you don’t want to shell out $80 for filters.

    If the non Dyson filter doesn't last as long as the Dyson filter, that can only indicate that the Dyson filter is a much better filter. Reason; the non Dyson filter degrades faster, so it doesn't do the same job as the original. I want a filter that FILTERS the air. I'll stick with the Dyson genuine filter, because it filters the air better than the fake one.
