    Over a year ago, I noticed I started this itch on my back between my left shoulder blade and spine. I also have the Brachioradical issue with the dry skin and itch on my lower arms. It was only several months ago that a dermatologist told me what it was. Gabapentin doesn't work for me. I use an Icy hot gel with lidocayne and menthol. It helps but not often through a whole day. I got some exercises from a chiropractor, and i am applying that. This condition can drive you nuts. Dr. Bailey, BTW my family name, you've given me some tips and a better understanding. Thanks.

      Capsaicin is interesting and it can help with nerve signalling. We have used it for post herpetic neuralgia from shingles and it gives relief to some folks. It is an interesting thing to try along with the good skin care to control skin flakes that start the tickle cascade. Heck, capsaicin and an ice pack when the itching is crazy - why not?! It's worth a try. I love to slather glycolic acid lotion on the itch to confuse the nerve signals. Most important - no scratching!

    thank you for the explanation. I think my husbnd has a very itchy spot, below the left scapula, close to the spine(where the nerves exit) he has been scratching it hmm...20+ years. Now: there is dark spot there, but that is due to the skin becoming thicker on that spot. the spot has not changed (not smaller, not bigger) for years.

    WOW after watching your vid on this i think you nailed it on my problem of having itching that seems to never go away . last jan my lower back had L4 and L5 out and i went to two different chiropractors the second one finally got them back in place along with a few places in my mid back and neck i was grateful he got me out of pain within about three days afterwards i started in with an itch on my rt side rib cage / belly area i thought its just dry skin then it started in on the other side then on the small of my back and shoulders it seemed like it was moving around the only relief id get when it started in was use moisturizer lotions . i had thought about this thinking it might be nerve related but wasent sure if it was possible . this morning my lower back was bugging me i had noticed in the area where it itch was it where it was out so i strecthed and twisted around then i managed to get it back into place the pain went away along with the itch i thought wow maybe this has a correlation im still a lil bit itchy but nothing like it was i think i might go back to the chiropractor and get another ajustment hopefully this will put it in check . thank you for posting this vid Bill

    This just started for me about three days ago. It started off as a deep pain (like a pulled muscle) in my lowest thoracic spine. After a day, the pain is still there, but a deep itch is there. It stings and burns. It hurts terribly when I stretch or press the spot. It’s on the left side and it right up against my spine. It’s hard to get comfortable.

      My advice is to find a chiro that has 3 things:
      1.) A Digital x-ray machine to see if you're out of alignment that's perhaps impinging on a nerve
      2.) One that has massage therapists there, All The Time that they work hand in hand with
      3.) A decompression table. This can give immediate relief & help toward the rebuilding of any injury you might have that may be causing the N.P.
      Good Luck! 🙂

    Okay so Here's my thing. This is a widely-shared issue. There has Got to be a Specific Cause we all share.
    My thinking is it is tied to a cervical spine injury, bc of the trigger points around the scapula. I was in the drill squad in hs & our practices consisted of head-snaps.. "Left! Right! Up! Down!" Quicker! Cleaner! Again! & I'm sure it leaded to my degeneration, which led to my NP in some specific way.

    • @DrBaileySkinCare

    Thank you! I've had this demonic itching on my back that spread to my arms and legs but I've also found that there are raised "pillow" shapes under the skin around the lumbar and thigh regions. Years ago, I did have a car accident that caused damage to my cervical area. Sometimes the itch does go away for a while, then comes back and I do have dry skin. You've definitely answered my questions but I do want to ask: I've also been exposed to shingles through a friend who has an active case and she has advised I take the shingles shot. Would that help?

    • @dlbstl
      @dlbstl 2 роки тому

      Shingles is caused by the chicken pox virus that has been hiding in your body since childhood. Later in life it reappears and gives you shingles. You cannot catch it from someone else.

    • @Dottie1039
      @Dottie1039 2 роки тому

      @@dlbstl Harvard Health says that if you have "shingles" then you cannot pass on shingles to anyone else...BUT you can pass on the Chicken Pox; Varicella Zoster virus (from your shingles) if the other person has NOT previously been exposed to the virus in their childhood nor have had the vaccine. So, a grandparent with shingles could potentially give the C.Pox virus to a grandchild or a person who had no history of chicken pox.
      Like Joan, I am thinking about getting the vaccine against the shingles. I have my 60th birthday next week and am age appropriate for the shot*. I remember my dad getting shingles in his seventies and it was very painful for him and it lasted weeks! So, I will schedule my shot to avoid what can be prevented.
      *Actually, age 50 is the recommended age for receiving the shingles shot.

    Thank you for the videos,it's helping me find out what I have.
    I don't have a rash or any marks,but it does get red after lots of itching.?
    I've been weeks try to figure out what this is. Some websites say that it's possible there's no rash or signs or anything on the skin.
    I'm tormented with this at least I think now this is what it might be.
    I'm not really sure because I really started noticing not after a bunch of mosquito bites in this area too.
    I have no rashes or signs at all on my forearm and at the back of my tricep above the elbow which is the affected area.
    I have no upper back itches or feel and pinched nerve issue.I wake up at night with a burning stinging nettle itchy like sensation that moves around this area.
    Impossible to sleep! I ride my bike in the sun a lot without sunscreen. I always have a tanned arms.Ludocraine I think helps but slow acting and cold water over the area also cams it down. Usually after an hour or more it calms down and goes away.
    Mostly I have it at night but yes during the day when my arms are exposed to the sun and heats up it kicks off.
    I also tore an upper inner bicep nerve/mucle type thing a few months ago too coupled with the constant sun exposure on my bike.
    I wonder if this is the cause or was it a reaction to mosquito bites. It certainly got worse after plenty of bites in there area too.
    I do have most of these symptoms though and have never had a mosquito bite reaction in the past and I've been bitten a lot.

    I am 74 years old and have had a back itch in the exact same spot for about 65 years. I have a dear husband who knows how to gently rub "the spot" without irritating my skin with his nails. and in the shower, i scrub with an exfoliating cloth. I could not imagine how or why this one little place would itch if nothing were "wrong," but you have finally explained it to me. Thank you so much for this clear and easy to understand video.

      I too have a spot on my right scapula. I resorted to using a lotion applicator (3-4" silicone pad on a curved bamboo stick about 20" long) to rub lubriderm or equivalent on my back. I have been a widow for 20 years now and live alone. I also have a back scratcher made from deer or elk antlers that is really handy for the needed occasional scratching! LOL

      Buy yourself a BAMBOO back scratcher, they are light and strong, and I guess you can sand paper the tips smoother if preferred!!!

    You described my itchy back perfectly! All this time I thought it was just dry skin. But this makes so much more sense. Particularly because I have issues with pinched nerves and other back issues. Thank you so much for the information and the advice

    I'm glad I've found this. My back itches in the same spot near my left scapula often. It also has a numb or painful sensation at times. It's going on 9 years now for me.

    Wow. You describe this condition so well. I have had these two areas itch, as you have described. Although, now, my arm does not itch and is more prone to my back area. I, too, have found myself resort to using forks. Sad to say. Thank you for bringing this to light and giving people a reason for their itch! (o゜▽゜)o☆

    I've had it on my left upper back for years. Usually it occurs around bedtime. It isn't intense, but annoying. I use a wire cat brush to reach it and that usually takes care of it until the next episode.

    Thank you so much for this informative video. I have been suffering from this unsatiable itch for almost 6 years now, have gone to several doctors everytime getting a different diagnosis (neurodermatitis, macular amyloidosis and finally nostalgia parasthetica). I've never had a biopsy only physical examination. My condition has gotten so bad the itchiness and thus pigmentation is all over my entire upper back from my neck to the bottom of my shoulder blades both sides basically separating my upper back and lower back into two distinct colours! The treatment I've been prescribed everytime is applying cortisone cream twice daily for months and it does relieve the pain but once I stop it's back again and I'm concerned about long term use of cortisone. It's insane how a little itch can affect your life so much I'm constantly scratching my back subconsciously from the moment I wake up, at work, while driving, and also during my sleep!
    I'm glad to see treatments out there that are not cortisone related I will try them out and hopefully they help in relieving the symptoms. Do you have any general advice regarding the aesthetics? My entire upper back is significantly darker than the rest of my skin and its appearance is really frustrating. Does the treatment also help with the appearance or something else? Thanks once again Doctor for all your help!!

    • @DrBaileySkinCare
      @DrBaileySkinCare  4 роки тому

      the AHAs can lighten hyperpigmentation from chronic friction. amyloidosis is a biopsy diagnosis. Interesting that a doc mentioned it. Best of luck and thanks for watching - itch is so vexing. In fact, I just updated this page today drbaileyskincare.com/pages/anti-itch perhaps it has something else to consider.
