Beautiful craftsmanship my friend. You are a natural. The handle mods on the pipe hawk look like an original museum piece. And to think you have only just begun. My personal preference is in the realm of the Viking age and I would like to see the dragon scales and perhaps some of the elder futhark runes on that larger cold steel Viking axe, and perhaps a handle wrap like the pipe hawk has except longer perhaps starting two inches from the bottom of the shaft and extending twelve to fourteen the inches up the handle for a solid two handed grip when necessary. A work of art in the making.......... Again, lovely and deadly beauties you have there. Please keep doing what you are apparently so talented at!
These hawks are not garbage when you get them from Cold Steel. They are rough, unfinished. Excellent tool, I have three. Best tool for the money I have. Better than a hatchet, or knife, or axe. Easier to carry. Faster chop speed. Excellent splitter, chopper, thrower, basher, will crack skulls too.
I own the pipe hawk. They are very dependable when cleaned up and refined. I love mine!. I've owned a few hand forged hawks and the CS is right up there
Dude, You're an inspiration! Love the work you did!! If your engraving lines aren't perfect that's just the better! It adds character. I also like the comparison between Cold Steel and CRKT, that really helped me decide which one to get. Thank You!
My man. Great looking hawks. I am working on designs for my first one now. Have a basic cold steel one as I like the simple look of it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Brilliant piece of work. ..I just ran across the video looking at things about Dremels...I would never have thought that this was a first attempt. ..you obviously have a calling there mate!
I just bought a cold steel frontier hawk, with the intention of customizing it, to "make it my own", so was looking at various vids to get some ideas. Just stumbled on yours, and all I can say is..WOW! You have some real talent there partner. I am truly impressed! I don't have the talent you do, so mine will be a bit more simple, but again, wow. You are GOOD! SO far, all I have done is sand down the handle, and made it fit the head the right way. Heading out today to get some paint remover and some bluing,. Was thinking of putting a leather collar on it, for missed swings protection, but I do plan on using mine, so not sure if I want to yet. That would prevent me from removing the head in the field if I wanted to, so will give it more thought. Overall, I am sure mine won't look as good as yours, but it still will be mine. I might get into doing more later on, as I like the process. A neat little "project" hobby, to kill some time productively. Thinking Norse Hawk for my next one.
I just got my CRKT Woods Kangee last week. The edge was completely dull, the head looked like it was forced to the end and did the same that your frontier hawk did, couldnt sand it because it was a 1/4 inch from the top of handle. Had to used a wedge to keep head in but with some work it is awesome, the spike on it is a beast.
Awesome stuff!I just got bit by the bug and picked up a couple of CS Trail Hawks to work on. Mostly for woodscrafting but also for F&I War reenacting.Hopefully, I can eventually make stuff like yours.
Really enjoyed the video as I've recently bought 2 cold steel hawks and am just about to start working on them. Love your ideas you've really made some nice pieces. Thanks for the video and you've given me some great ideas. Best of luck for the future.
Wow, you did some awesome work man, it's really something, like how you can just pick up something as plain as a cold steel tomahawk and make it look so unique, it's just really cool.
Referencing the unwanted set screw: Check out Tandy Leather on line, or one of their stores. They have a good selection of screw in back silver or brass conchos. One of those might be used to replace the screw. Or, you could melt silver solder into the hole, and sand it smooth, and shiny.
Very cool work on the one you were showing last. The intricate carving and dark stain in it. I would really like to get a hawk done by you. Who knows you could become famous and I could then say I have one of his first ones. Give it some thought.
Very cool! Love the designs. Im a knife and bow guy. Will get my first axe tommorow. Coldsteel battle axe. Little nervous about the handle. In the netherlands these (and all weapons) are much more expensive. Hope i can get the head fitted good. I hear alot of people complaining about the screw. Will it really splitt the handle if you use the allen screw? Cant wait to get creative with it 😙
Wow! Just stumbled on your channel and really impressed with your work! Love how you've transformed an inexpensive product into badass works of art. Gotta check out more of your vids but hoping you show some of your techniques on camera. Really dig the patina/etching (?) you've done on the metal. Liked and subbed! Jim
Wow you do amazing work... I have watched your video four separate times your tomahawks are absolutely beautiful if you ever do getting to a point where you start wanting to make them and sell them please let me know
Found myself falling in love with tomahawks. Between all the modded Cold Steel ones and Chandler Dickenson's video of forging one out of a railroad spike with an O1 edge... I see some hawkin in my future.
Mabey next video you could show the dremel at work. And like which tips you use on it. You do awesome work my friend. I'm gonna burn dragon scales in my tomahawk handle they look great.
It is hit and miss with the cold steel handles. But a little work and an hour or two of time. You can make it your own. I have a all of Cold Steels tomahawks and one Viking axe. Making the handle my own design was the best part. You did a great job on our handles. And as a side note, never make the them (the handles) factory finish. When it comes to design.
Hey Ryan, i thought you did very well, however i have a question for you " Did you attach the hammer end to the pipehawk or is it a one piece head, and where can i purchase a used pipehawk head? Thanks in advance!!
Get good at it my foot you are great at it from what I see in the video I would definitely pay for a costume hawk I'm doing it myself not as good as you lol
@Ryan Lanon Whats the best and most convenient source I can use to get information on Metals, and metal work. Are there any books that I could get all of it from?
You have the talent and it sells well.As it developed you can charge more.Go to caft fairs and see what others are selling for big money and you'll wonder why you waited so long to get started.
Truly beautiful work! Really inspiring, loving your work on those hawks!! Keep it up, buddy!!
Awesome work. Your Tomahawks look so cool. Thanks for sharing.

I know this might be asking a lot but any chance you could make some tutorial vid on putting designs on your Handles? 🤷🏿♂️

bcsorensenman I agree. They are really plan but solid tools.

This is the first video I have seen with actual modifications to the blade. You have done a fantastic job. Keep up the great work.
My man. Great looking hawks. I am working on designs for my first one now. Have a basic cold steel one as I like the simple look of it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Just finished my first hawk - totally fun. Fantastic work and thanks for your sharing with tips & inspiration.
Those are beautiful Hawks! Your in-laws will be proud to own the one you customized for them,,, very, very cool.
That tomahawk looks awesome man great job!!
Incredible work. That Norse hawk looks like it came straight off the side of a Viking!
Man, that Cold Steel Pipe Hawk is a real work of art! All of them are beautiful, though. Thanks for showing them off.
Brilliant piece of work. ..I just ran across the video looking at things about Dremels...I would never have thought that this was a first attempt. ..you obviously have a calling there mate!

You are one talented dude. Great work. Thumbs up.
Your work is beautiful and I can only imagine what your future creations will be. Way to go!

Thanks! love both of your tomahawks! i have more pics of them on my IG @ ronin_custom_tomahawks
+Ryan Lanon are you of native american descent?
Awesome custom work on the hawks! Had the same problem with the head coming off so I seen Crocket20 use a wood shim in place of the set screw.

They are what I call 'Diamonds in the rough'! They work fine out of the box....but there is a LOT of room for modding!
They all look really good.
Great stuff man, really impressive work.
They are far from garbage. They are the best hawk for the money period
All right! Cool custom tomahawk designs 😁.
You do beautiful work.
Awesome! Sheaths are another thing to experiment with. Those are definitely unique man
i actually do them now in leather. ive expanded the craft alot since this video. i also do stock reduction blades as well.
You did a beautiful job on that.
Awesome stuff!I just got bit by the bug and picked up a couple of CS Trail Hawks to work on. Mostly for woodscrafting but also for F&I War reenacting.Hopefully, I can eventually make stuff like yours.
Very creative, cool design work!
Really enjoyed the video as I've recently bought 2 cold steel hawks and am just about to start working on them. Love your ideas you've really made some nice pieces. Thanks for the video and you've given me some great ideas. Best of luck for the future.

I like the battletech warhammer on top of the cabinet. The Hawks are amazing.
Really like that head on the Norse Hawk, nice work.
Holy moly that pipe hawk at the end is insanely beautiful my friend. Subbed!
Parts from a Japanese yari or a naginata may be useful to you. Very nice work. Working on one of my own.
the fishscale pattern might actually improve the grip and also would look really rad
I would say you are well on your way my friend! Good work!!!!
Excelente tools #1 Master

Found myself falling in love with tomahawks. Between all the modded Cold Steel ones and Chandler Dickenson's video of forging one out of a railroad spike with an O1 edge... I see some hawkin in my future.
Awesome work bro .. Grats to you :):)
I'm getting a Chogan very soon and will likely start modding it right away! BTW, is that a 40K Eldar Titan in the case?
Mabey next video you could show the dremel at work. And like which tips you use on it. You do awesome work my friend. I'm gonna burn dragon scales in my tomahawk handle they look great.
Dude those look mint, they should employ you 👍🏻

If you take the finish off to make it look more authentic you should check out mustard patina. I did it to a knife after removing the powder coating.
Very nice, you have a good talent there.
Nice job
Hey Ryan, i thought you did very well, however i have a question for you " Did you attach the hammer end to the pipehawk or is it a one piece head, and where can i purchase a used pipehawk head? Thanks in advance!!
Awesome modifications! :D

what kind of feathers on the crkt
TOO BAD COLD STEEL DOESNT SEND THE HEAD AND HANDLE SEPERATE IF THEY ARE GOING TO DO A CRAP JOB ON IT
That would be cool if they did.
Nice work
I see you like katana, you added some sepa and a hamon and kashira on the blade
Молодец! Очень красиво!
You have the talent and it sells well.As it developed you can charge more.Go to caft fairs and see what others are selling for big money and you'll wonder why you waited so long to get started.
