Rick: bombing it over the guy mowing with no cares
Me: thins one and knocks him out resulting in a rogue mower loose on the course
ive gotten hit in the face by a reallllly bad topped slice while i was working on a T-box that should never have seen a ball lol. I get hit kind of often when mowing rough but we have a cage around us. Mowing the fairway next to the driving range is super sketch cause our fairway units dont have any protection, because typically we're off the fairways before golf starts
next on Sky News, rogue mower kills five; greenskeeper is in hospital with a concussion. suspect still at large.
I use these balls a lot! I am a disabled golfer, and my distance and ability to hit the ball well has diminished as my condition worsens. These balls have actually helped me a lot on tee and fairway shots. I replace them on the green with regular Callaway Super Soft balls, and my golf buddies have no issue with me doing that. They really have helped my ability to strike the ball better, and have actually helped me get some distance.
That’s why I love golf, no matter your skill or situation you can play with the best of them. Happy it worked for you.
I’ve been playing this ball for a month, and I had no idea it was bigger. I knew something felt off… Sheesh.
@@clegsmegson2627 hahaha, funny how you get intimidated by a flag. How small minded could a man be..
Rick, funny story. I typically hit Srixon. Yesterday while looking for my ball in the woods I found this odd looking Calloway ball. Well for the rest of the match I started hitting it. I played very well with it for some reason. It wasn’t until I put it in the ball holder in the golf cart that I realized it was larger than the rest. I had never heard of them before and just so happen that your video today was about them. I just ordered 2 dozen to try out! Thanks for the video. Without much thought I Personally felt like my drives were slightly higher and longer and my chips were on point.
the classic, "oh rick, laughing" after a poor shot, hilarious every time.
Thank you !
Thank you !
Thank you !
Just got a dozen after this vid & great feeling but now I can SEE the ball. I'm old & play left handed but I'm right eye dominant with my left eye 20/200, I struggle to see any golf ball in any color with full swings, even with one contact in that eye or glasses. This is a game changer for me & really appreciate you making this review.
Cheers,
PC
Cheeky intro there Rick 🤣🤣
Even the great Mr. Shiels takes one mulligan. I feel comfortable taking 5 or 6 now.
Just out of curiosity, I'd like to see the GC Quad numbers of this ball vs a Pro V One.
Rick, I have been watching your videos for 2 years and I have greatly improved. I went from a 100 average per round to breaking 80 for the first time and getting my first eagle ever. Keep up the great videos!
Rick, you should do a round playing off the red tees… see how low you can score?
I tried it its stupid easy guys lol my local course some of the holes the womens tees are as much as 100 yards closer than the mens
Or you have to take a Lob wedge of the tee and see how the course changes from there. Some holes you may not even reach the fairways...
The title 😂😂
I broke 80 for the first time ever twice using this ball, consistency and feel is just unmatched in my opinion.highly recommend. 👍
We “might” chop it in half… who are you kidding ;)
Hi Rick, I’ve been watching all your videos and now took up golf, with the tips from your videos I’ve not been playing bad golf. Long way from the pga tour haha, but loving the evenings on the course, with my son. Cheers Rick keep the videos coming 👍👍
I always play golf with big balls. Mainly when I tell myself I can get it through these 7 trees and onto the green from 210 out
Was flicking through some of the older videos. Saw this and ordered some. Taking them out tomorrow for a test. Excited!!!
Reminds me of the old Magna golf ball from the 80s. Topflight I believe.
I used them this past weekend and loved them. I’m a high handicapper, I think non professionals which is most of us, should give them a try. Nice video Rick, also it’s my b-day.
I was literally just researching these golf balls. Thank you for making this!
Thanks for not editing out the shots that don't always go as planned. Definitely one of the reasons we can relate to you and your channel Rick. Nevertheless you've helped a lot with my game. Would love to play a round with you mate. Eric from South Africa 🇿🇦
“I can hear you chuckling”, me laughing be hind my screen😂😂
I've missed these reviews. Thanks Rick Shiels!!!
I just started golf a couple months ago and your videos have really helped me out with everything thing thanks
Love this ball, great around the greens and putting, great video Rick as per usual!!
I remember playing with 1.62 before the 1.68's came out and they felt massive at the time. I imagine this would be similar 😁
I think Rick did a video with old 1.62 balls in the "sweet" wrapper a while ago...Dunlop 65's.
@@stuartmitchell7287 over here in America, we have always used the 1.68” golf ball.
@@JonathanMoosey Meanwhile in Australia, we still use the 1.62 if we find them. Easier to putt with. Alas, they are now illegal.
@@kimgallagher490 learned how to play with the old 1.62 Hot Dot here in Australia....dad (god rest his soul) could putt like a demon with them...
Ok Rick I see what's going on 😁
I like them! Always played with chrome soft, but those appeal to me too. Maybe because of the softness, which to me, equates to control.
Yes very interesting. Wouldn't mind giving them a try, although I do think putting them into the hole will be harder. Thanks for showing. Oooh that was close for a hole in one.
Love the videos rick you inspired me to start playing golf thanks for the amazing content.
I truly do have a child's mind after this video
Hahah I wasn’t gonna chuckle until he said “yeah I can hear you chuckling”. That made me chuckle.
Just played this ball today. Love it!
Poor guy trying to mow @7:00 and Rick is just peppering balls at him 😂
we need to see trackman results of this
Order some of these last week. I really enjoy them as a high handicap player
Flag out might help with putting. I like the high ball flight. might try them myself.
Why do I have the urge to listen to AC/DC big balls now! 😂🤣😂🤣
I wanna know the GC Quad numbers. Spin especially
Just some fun on the course. Thanks Rick
Why are you so good at this UA-cam thing? I can't place it but your videos are just always so good!
This is just the updated version of the Magna ball from 1-2 years ago right? Definitely an interesting concept for beginners, makes it a bit easier to get under the ball apparently since the middle of the ball is higher up than normal.
Also it should make fast greens slower because of the increased moment of inertia (translate:it requires more energy to roll it) and less hook and slice because again it's harder to spin it so much.
@@cheloniamydas6753 isn't the ball still the same weight? Or is my physics out of date haha
Speaking of putting perfect contact on the put would be slightly higher as well considering the cog being higher
@@ForzaOwnz yeah, but MOI of a ball is 2/5×M×R^2 (for a uniform ball, which exactl golf ball isn't, but it,s as close as it gets) where R is the radius and M is mass (doesn't change). So yeah, it changes quadratically with radius.
Still got 2 dozens of magna unopened haha but don't forget the ladies REVA ball is also oversized
@@cheloniamydas6753 you’re not Einstein bro most people know what those words mean you don’t have to explain lmao
This reminds me of the old Topflite Magna I sometimes played as a kid. Would be cool to see if you could get your hands on some and compare them Rick
I bet I’ve got some in the garage somewhere . I remember losing 3 on one tee as a junior . That was not a good day lol
All your videos are great Rick! I'd like to see trackman for PW,7I, and Driver for distance/spin numbers for the MAX vs. Pro V1
Rick, your consistency of striking the ball is amazing, wish I could hit the ball in the same place every-time!
Years ago, when I first started playing, there was a ball called the "Top Flite Magna" it was also bigger than a normal ball but it also claimed to fly straighter by reducing hooks and slices. Does anyone else remember this ball?
Yes, the Magna found its way into my bag back in the early 80’s I think. Forgot all about till I saw this video then couldn’t remember the name till your comment.
Now we need big balls vs those tiny trainer clubs you did a video on a year or 2 ago.
Callaway has rebranded the MAGNA ball this year after changing the cover as they have with the Super Soft and Chrome Soft. I have played the MAGNA ball in the past and really liked them.
I have used these and they are very good. A little shorter on drives and a little longer on irons. Super easy to hit and they do go higher than a regular ball. I actually had my best putting day ever using these. 13 putts for 9 holes.
Found that interesting wonder how long before other ball manufacturers follow suit
How do bigger balls feel, fly, and perform - nice Rick
Nice! I remember playing the Magma golf ball in the 90's.
Interesting video Rick... Informative as always...Thanks
I wonder how long it took Rick to fix those 11 pitch marks on the green
Me: all round just great video
Rick: every video on this channel is good
It's interesting to see what kinds of behavior we can get at the limits of the rules. Fun video! 👍
a driver test would be really interesting. i think its going shorter due to the bigger surface area.
Yeah it would. (Extreme example here...) But imagine a gold ball the size of an orange, definitely goes less far the bigger the ball gets 👍👍
Canada here. Really enjoy your show
Good review Rick. Thanks
As a sparky, I'm equally pained and amused whenever you call a conduit cutter a ball cutter 😂
Is there any other way to play golf?
It’s tiring, I tell you.😆
I played my first game of golf yesterday, man it didn’t go well but it was a very fun experience with my buddies
Must admit rick you do come up with some great content happy days👊👏
Rick: "I'm so used to having normal sized balls in my hand that this feels massive..."
...
99% of people watching this video: 🤭😆😅🤣
i have these and they dont fit in the cart ball holders 😂😂
I use these a lot, was given four dozen for a gift. The softness is nice but i shoot the exact same….low 90’s with TopFlight two piece ‘hard’ golf balls and the are 60% less. Personally i got no value from the larger size. No harm either. But yes, you do have to carry them all in your pocket :-)
I have not had an issue with that sort of thing, but maybe it depends on the cart.
They really aren't that much bigger honestly. Its remarkable because every other golf ball on the planet is the same size, but you really can barely even tell they are any bigger via the naked eye.
I feel they are targeted at high handicappers, so as one myself I played and recorded an 18 hole review with them if you want to see a different perspective

Ahhh this would be annoying. I never considered this, very important oversight.
New to the channel as I'm finally getting back into golf. Expect a +1 view to every video on the channel. Great content!
Finally! I've been waiting for ages for you to test these balls, they must have been renamed because until recently they were called Magna. Thanks for reviewing them, fun video.
Anyone else been playing these without knowing they were bigger 😂
You should use them on the GC quad and compare to a pro V1. Get spin rates, distances, launch angles, etc. That’s the only way to get good info on a ball like this.
I agree.... I was dissapointed with the video as well... I'm more of an old-school data driven Rick fan.
Insane vid. Very interesting about the bigger ball
Hi Rick, the larger ball does not rotate more often, the reason why you would need to hit it harderd when putting is the higher friction it creates due to the larger contact surface with the grass. It's the same principle as tyres. Wider tyres have a better stopping distance to to a larger contact surface.
I grabbed a dozen of the Yellow ones and must say they are MUCH easier to find than a standard size white ball.
That was the thing I liked the most about them honestly. I really think people are exaggerating about the difference in size. I expected them to be way bigger after seeing these reviews.
As an actual high handicapper, I do feel like they are interesting though.
I took the opportunity to record an 18 hole review with them, if anyone is curios what that perspective might look like!

Hey Rick was wondering if this illegal in tournament play?
Nope! It is legal! I’ve actually bought a dozen and the box says that it conforms to USGA rules. So at least it is legal here in the US.
Wow, so I didn't even watch the video? He literally said they were legal. Ur not even a real fan.
The new ball looks like fun. Thanks for the review Rick
Another great video Rick!
Patiently waiting for the gm golf collab: 😐
Rick Shiels! You've done it again!
My only hole in one was way back in 1999. I used a Top Flite Magna ball. The first larger ball that I know of.
This is the ball for those of us who still own Persimmon Drivers. It is soft enough to compress like a Balata ball of old but has flight qualities to hit it straighter. Good video again from rick.
Thanks for the Father’s Day gift idea!😂
I played my first round with theses today. I’m not sure if it is a coincidence, but I shot my lowest round in months. I did not notice it being anymore difficult to putt which I was concerned about. I hit more fairways, chipped extremely well, but the biggest notice was the confidence I had on par 3’s. I felt like I had more control.
I felt like maybe I was a 1/2 a club to a club shorter with these. Loved chipping with them. Real easy to get chips up in the air. Didn’t have issues putting.
Bravo Mr Shiels, interesting balls, keep up the good work. God bless you sir
Will have to give them a try
6:15 The greenskeeper in the mower keeps driving into the fairway after watching you shoot thinking you weren't going to keep on hitting balls 🕺
The previous versions were called the Supersoft Magna and I still have a couple left in my bag. I tried them for a little while just to see if it made much of a difference and it didn't really for me.
Don't know if I would be convinced to use these. Nice golf ball though all the same. Great video Rick!
I'm a relative beginner and a very high handicapper and just find this ball gives me lots of confidence when striking it. It goes higher and further as well. The amount of times I've hit the flag and it's stayed above the hole is frustrating, roll on July 21st when I can take the flag out.
Love the video concept, you only find that here with Rick
I do feel after watching this video I will buy them and I will enjoy them because of you.
20 years ago I played Top Flight's Magna line of balls. I really liked them. Good distance. Plus they felt wonderfully soft. At least to me. But at that time I was also putting an extreme amount of backspin on my short irons.
I gamed this ball a couple rounds. It threw off my distance for sure as well as my putting. I switched back to the regular supersoft or the bridgestone e12 contact.
Great review thanks for sharing
Interesting! I will look forward to finding one of those big boys in the bushes!
great video - would love to see the GCQuad spin numbers on the ball
Playing golf with big balls is using a Pro V1 on a water hole.
YOULL NEVER SEE ME AGAIIIINNNNNNNN
At my country club I always spend a few minutes in the shit. Go in for 5 minutes and you come out with a dozen of almost brand new prov1’s. Rich people are something else 🤣
Oh you’re still the type to get shaky over the ball your using ? Lol no wonder your prone to loosing them 🥱
