North Dakota Coyote Hunting: Late January success

- On a cold, blustery day in northern ND, I, Brandon Oksendahl, and Andrew Oksendahl set out to do a few stands calling coyotes. A winter storm cut our day short, but we still managed to call in and down a female on the day! Hope you enjoy!! Feel free to comment/subscribe! Calls used: FoxPro Firestrom. Rabbit-in-distress, vole squeak, and pup-in-distress.

Reminds me of my youth. Lived on a farm there until I was 16. Only coyote I ever shot was with a .22 lr at about 75 yards. You know the ground freezes 2 feet deep by Feb. -42 keeps the riff raff out.

Fellow North Dakotan. Watched your video just to see if you got more than one. Just as I thought. Coyotes around here seem to be few and skittish. Have to got the big cities to find more than one at a time. Late January? Don't the fur buyers start claiming they're rubbing by 1st of January? That's what I always get. Enjoyed your video. By the way everyone, yes it is as cold as it looks out here. 30 below is expected every winter at least for a few days. 20 above is considered very good weather.

THIS IS S QUESTION: So do the folk kill them simply for the sake of killing them? If the answer is something due to anticipated damage by coyotes, are they not in their natural terrain? I am not trying to be cross with you, I am really confused as I watch the videos and want to become more aware!
Richard Stapleton most are killed due to killing livestock or fur, when this video was published a good prime coyote was bringing $50-$60. this year youd be lucky to get $20
@@mrbilingual - This is pest control that just happens to be fun for a certain segment of the population. So, if someone REALLY, but I mean REALLY liked to kill roaches (or rats) would you care so much? Coyotes are dangerous, destructive, disease carrying (like the mangy one in this video, but often rabies [there is a rabies emergency alert here in South Texas over rabid coyotes and animals they prey on but then escape. Picture rabid bambi!]). How would you feel about Wile E. Coyote here if he were to run off with your fur-ball cat or toy dog? These animals are like sharks in the water! They'll kill your fur-ball (or you) without batting an eye!

Hey what will coyotes respond to in fall?
+Cody Mierau During the fall when you have green juvenile dogs on their own for the first time will be gullible even to the overly used rabbit distress. Don't be afraid to use it as sometimes juveniles as well as adults will just charge in like its a competition to get to the rabbit first. As winter sets in they seem too ignore rabbit distress and favor coyote vocal sounds as their social instincts come in to play in preparation for the breeding season. At that point I usually stick with the coyote vocals, but don't forget they still get hungry and will still come to distress sounds of various bird, rodent and puppy, including the overly used rabbit distress.
What kind of caliber gun is he shooting?
He is shooting a Savage 204 I believe!

Last night I got the same gun for my birthday the 17hmr with the wood stock
The plastic black stock rifle is a Tikka T3 in .22-250 probably stainless steel. Ramp up your quality setting to 1080P and you can see the barrel and action stamps at 3:09. The wood thumbhole stock rifle is a Savage M25, probably .204R.

It look like the coyote just woke from a nap. You mention 'mange, form what I could see it didn't look too bad, if anything you could at the least take the tail as a souvenir.
I don't know why guys don't go the extra 3 feet & wear white camouflage on there heads. That's the part that moves the most. Don't say it doesn't matter.

To save it from dying a cold and horrible death due to the loss of its hair from mange.

Ya know ~ I appreciate a scope, I really do, but I find myself asking if people who shoot can shoot without one (a scope that is). And I don't mean just these people from this video as I'm not trying to pick on them. I'm just saying that at 50 yards (or 40) I could dang near hit it with my slingshot for christ sake. Let's add some more technology with the electronic game caller: it's really not that difficult to simulate a distress call. I'm feeling really old right now but at the same time very proud for knowing that I'm the real deal and that I don't need all your fancy gadgets.
