It's shipped with a charge. If you read the little yellow card that comes on top of the manual/charge cable box, it says that the light comes in lock out mode. In order to get it out of lock out mode, on-off-on-off quickly. The red light on top will turn green... tada! You are now out of lock out mode. The instructions also say, the light will come out of lock out mode once you connect it to charge. That is why you were able to turn it on after you started charging it.
I really enjoy mine. One of the cooler things I figured out is that it uses a camera tripod bolt/setup and so I could hook it onto my mountainsmith Trekker FX Lite monopod and walk around with it on the top of a walking stick. Pretty neat!
I've always liked lights that have an Edison/Carriage/Nautical style to them. Personally not a fan of bare filaments on any type of light though, and would prefer a frosted/opaque lens/globe. Nice looking product though, and thanks for the review. 👍
Your light is definitely broken, there's a piece missing on the carabiner. I got the version with the copper finish, and the carabiner had a gate. Unfortunately, the handle was bent out of shape so the gate doesn’t close properly. It's really disappointing, considering that this light isn't cheap. I'd contact their support and let them know.
@@MWDAdventures I really prefer the handle and the D-ring of the Classic 2 Pro. When I go camping, I have some piece of rope anyway, so I can just use that if I want to let the lamp hang from a branch or something like that. By contrast, the handle on the Olantern Classic Mini feels overengineered and much less reliable.
