- X-23 (Laura Kinney) is a fictional character appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics, most commonly in association with the X-Men. She was originally created by writer Craig Kyle for the X-Men: Evolution television series before debuting in the NYX comic series in 2004. Since then she has headlined two six-issue miniseries written by Kyle and Yost, a one-shot and self-titled series written by Marjorie Liu, and All-New Wolverine by Tom Taylor.

This is one of the best stories that Marvel’s put out in a long while, love this run!
I really like Laura as Wolverine it makes sense for her to take up the mantle and the story is also pretty good.
Such an enlightening video to bring us up to speed on the story of Laura Kinney in just over 24 minutes! Looking forward to more!
X-23 is fine but at the end of the day Wolverine is one of the big faces of marvel. Be it crossover games or movies or comics, you will see LOGAN as Wolverine. Cause he made that role. Hell, X-23 has to find her own Sabertooth or Hulk to fight or else things will get boring quick. And Logan was close to one of my favorite hero's and that is Peter Parker. Who knew of his problems , became his blood brother. He has a wide legacy

***** Old Man Logan mate. Logan in a sense didnt go anywhere like Barry did. We also didnt have UA-cam back in the day to keep better track of stories and revisit fights like Wolverine Vs Hulk over and over or his adventures with Spiderman. Barry completely fell off the map. And that may be true but look at Kyle Reynar, he replaced Hal Jordan but we never seen much of him in Justice League series did we?
I suppose that's not quite as fair since Logan's legacy stretches all the way back to 1974, but an understandable feeling still.

It is in character for Logan to admit he was a crappy hero and that Laura is better than him. That being said nobody can ever replace the Wolverine.
He only said it because the writer is pissed people hate Laura as Wolverine.

Wolverine is my favorite hero so I'm kinda mad the only thing I get is a crappy old man. I can see Logan saying something all the lines of "don't be like me because I'm a murderer" to his daughter/sister/clone, but the fact that he does so just shows X-23 won't appeal to people that liked Wolverine. We like the fact that he was a short Canadian man who wasn't afraid to kill people. We, or at least I, don't want to see him taken out of the equation by his clone who shares nothing in common aside from his claws and costume(which she makes look so lame).

I like the Four Sisters. A big part of that is because I think Marvel's struggling with figuring out how exactly to tell stories about mutants right now, and this seems to point to a lot of good ways that they might move forward in that arena.

If she is different let her BE different. Let her have her OWN costume. Give her the name and have her do things different. Make us forget she is wolverine. Then when they catch her with something we go;"oh yeah". This is what i'd like to see.
I can't put my finger on it, but something about the way she wears the costume just looks wrong. Maybe it's because of her hair, or her sleeves, or the fact her eye spikers are super tiny and lame.
I think it's the hair, makes her look like she has a bald top mullet.
Sarafan Dumah kinda hard for her to be two different considering, she's a literal clone she isn't his cousin she wasn't trained in the way of wolverine. she wasn't ask to take on the mantle because she grew up watching him as an x-man from the Xavior school she's him.......with Lady parts and arguably a darker history

Sarafan Dumah if you're unfamiliar with her character she was trained at birth in hand to have martial arts alongside with being tortured half to death death to trigger her healing factor and to eliminate fear death. she's had hand on assassination raining since she was like eight. The thing about Logan was he was over 213 years old he had a little bit of training in everything

Wolverine is and for me will always be the best and is way more skillful and faster and also he's actually really smart, a great tactician and the best in hand to hand combat in pretty much every martial art, X-23 is almost there I like the idea of not killing but I hope to see James back eventually

This is prolly gonna make me old and I'm not even sure if these characters even exist anymore, I haven't been collecting for quite sometime now, but I would have a suggestion for your throwback thursday series about Longshot from the Xmen and Mojo. Claremont wrote some good stuff about the characters which also involved Dazzler and others. Love your videos.

I would say Laura even replaced Logan as wolverine it's not even like he really died, (he just got old and grumpy) she is more her own kind of wolverine. But i can name at few others from marvel alone that have done it well.
Robbie Reyes as a new ghost riders ( he has his uncle a pycopathic , satin worshiping contract killer, ghost as the spirit that he's contacted to)
Kate bishop as Hawkeye whom is petty much clints equal. They share the title.
Kalamal Khan did replac Carol as ms marvel.
Nidia Pym like Kate bishop shares the title of wasp with Janet.
Moon girl replaced a super opsucre character called moon boy. Whom no one chares about as he hasn't being recent since like the 90tes early 2000eds.
And lest we forget Carol love or hate her ( or like me are completely indifferent) also replaced mar-vel another hero no one chares about.

Characters changing names and titles or taking up the mantle of some one else is nothing new marvel and dc have being doing this shit forever.

I wonder if the new legacies are just temporary sales boosts, or if Marvel and Disney have realized that the MCU will need to change as actors age or retire or opt out of new contracts, and that fans would object to new actors taking over fan favorite roles. Could something like this be MCU Phase 5 or 6?

Yes you can, you can replace anyone. It's a fictional story, the writers can do whatever they want.
She is a different character who happens to have the same powers, and wears a very similar costume. No more. No less. Laura is NOT a replacement.
But let's be real, how many times can you keep reading the same stories about the exact same character. Just read the trade paperbacks, if you are that hung up on reading the same things over and over and over again.
im gonna start keeping track of how many times rob says "but the fact remains" from now on. lol

One of the best things about wolverine is that he doesn't give a fuck about killing the bad guys. Taking that away from the character is just a bad move. Having said that, I do really like x23

I don't mind changing characters, and this story is a good example of doing it right. The passing of the torch is a great way to change a character's Gender/Race/ whatever.
It's when they abruptly change things without also appealing to the original fans that piss me off, fortunately that's not the case here in my opinion.
Laura Kinney is an awesome character with a good back story, I liked this story a lot, also the artwork is great. She's drawn so hot.

Do you think with the James Howlett Wolverine the writers have gone back and forth between him being analytical and thinking things through (Like, wasn't he a ninja at one point and has done a number of recon infiltrations and ran his own school of x-men) and him acting on instinct and anger? Cause Wolverine has had some very profound strategy and tactics when fighting sometimes incorporating his healing factor, I mean he was like 250+ years old, that's a shit ton of experience. I'm thinking yea, he popped his claws and went into a frenzy but all of his EXPERIENCE is what I believe made him truly formidable. So Laura might have all of his capabilities but I think it would still be a while before she becomes as formidable as wolverine because of his 250 yrs of experience. So she still has to make up for all of that meaning she won't be as good as Wolverine at least after some significant experience, maybe not 250 years but a significant amount.
Lastly, this story and her responses to attackers don't sound too different from some Wolverine stories I read y'know? Like I said, with Wolverine they often went back and forth between him just popping claws and going berserk on a situation. And stealthily infiltrating a building or acquiring information before a fight. It always seemed like popping his claws and going berserk were results of stressors or like a limit to his stress when he got too angry.

I still don't see how Wolverine (Logan/James Howlett) is "trapped" in the Adamantium. There are multiple instances where Wolverine phased through Kitty Pryde (scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/59488/what-materials-can-kitty-pryde-not-phase-through-can-she-phase-through-adamanti). She has also phased Colossus through an imprisonment underground, as well as a Giant Bullet through the Earth in Joss Whedon's run of Astonishing X-Men. There is no reason she couldn't Phase Wolverine out of the Adamantium Encasement he's currently in.
I believe X-23 is here as the new Wolverine, because Marvel realizes that Logan has done it all. Fought every villain, been ripped in half, beheaded, Adamantium removed, Adamantium replaced, etc. And they just don't know what else to do with a character that has been around in Marvel Comics since 1974.
But, as with Amadeus Cho Hulk, X-23 Wolverine, Riri Williams Iron Man, and Jane Foster Thor; Marvel needs to come up with brand new fresh characters, instead of throwing established costumes on new people. Removing beloved characters and shoe-horning new people into their roles is a cheap move.
I'm sure these new stories will be great. But we need fresh, original content with fresh, original ideas. Rant Concluded.

Question; Couldn't they cut the ground beneath Wolverine and have someone with super strength pull him out of the adamantium casing? I mean, even if the metal had welded onto his skin, with super strength they could just rip him out of there, and his healing factor will take care of the skin that was ripped off, then boom, Wolverine is back.
This is kinda off topic but I been meaning to ask. Why is it that Magneto or another mutant can't get Wolverines body out of the Adamantium ? Maybe phase him through it or desolve the metal.
FrezH Yeah, that's why I wondered how they justified leaving his body in the metal. Did they explain why it couldn't be done this time ? Other than story purposes I don't see a reason.

Bring back Wolverine, and give X-23 her own book.
I actually really loved this first Volume when reading this (I bought at a Barnes and Noble). To be fair, I do love X-23 as a character from Evolution and the subsequent comics. And I like how Taylor is trying to separate her from Wolverine in that she doesn't kill when necessary and the idea of Clones, very much representing X-23's history.
But I also understand why so many fans of Wolverine, Logan, are irritated. I do like Wolverine. I think he's a bit overrated, but a good character. So personally, him bowing out and Laura taking the mantle, works. Though, it doesn't help this is really just a response from Marvel in wanting to choke Fox of any future X-men material. Argh.

Task Master has "Photographic Reflexes" . and a way that Wolverine can come back is. do you remember the way Cyber died? Apocalypse used bugs that at able to eat Adamantium to strip Cyber of his 2nd skin. BOOM! Wolverine lives! LOL

So are these the 616 versions of the young X Men or an alternate version? If they are from 616 they will have to return eventually so they can live out their lives or else their actions will never have happened and then the time stream will be all wibbly wobboly timey wimey.
Marvel is a PIMP. A BAD ONE. Die Hard wolverine fan here so i dont mind if people are gonna grill me for this but NO, X-23 she was always good and interesting and seeing her grow in her own rights was always a pleasure. Wolverine in the 90s brought DEAD marvel titles to life. Where ever he went in terms of cross over made a HUGE sale. Regardless Wolverine being violent and a "KILLER" was the requirement at the time. His rogues gallery was full of sadistic killers so the level the playing field he was violent. I am a wolverine fan and i am not gonna go around dissing X-23 for being a girl or what not cause from day-1 she was cool. She always had the potential to succeed Wolverine but I always imagined her in her own rights. Now writers screwed up wolverine. I miss him, old man logan is ok but isnt the same. If marvel ever brings him back ill be happy but if he doesnt, well not like loosing a single reader matters to them. Wolverine always had to do the things required of him. Whether he wanted to or not. X-force wolverine for me was the perfect definition of where he was suited the best. He was made in the to ULTIMATE killer. That was his TAG line from day-1. I seriously dont understand why marvel killed him off. I hope he returns one day.

I think just from the two stories so far, we will have a fight of wolverines in the never future just think what would it truly be like if the were more then two wolverine in marvel, with all the same powers, but one with a kind soul who will not kill, I think that's what will cost her in the end and The First Wolverine will come back to help her before it all said and done they will find a way to free him, How is still a mystery
