Let's put him back on The Smiler again, and just LEAVE him there!"
I remember going with school to alton towers when the smiler first opened. The queues were too long for me to bother but it had such a nasty reputation. People kept talking about people dying on the ride (could be rumours, never found out) but I had this image in my head of it being really scary either way. I don't know if going on the pepsi max (and nearly having a panic attack on the way up) tempered any fear I had around rollercoasters but this just looks fun now that I see it. I love fast and twisty coasters.

It's still safe to this day as all works efficiently (i say efficient bc in the modern day, the least you'll get about Smiler is it stopping and riders likely having to be removed off the ride because of something detected in the safety systems :/ )
Nobody died but in 2015 there was a collision and left 4 passengers with Major injuries. There was a glitch in a system and an empty cart got sent out then a couple minutes later a cart of 16 people were sent out. The glitch made the mechanics break on the empty cart and it failed to complete the full loop on one of the loops. As the empty cart just sat there the cart with 16 passengers came up to the loop but hit the empty cart with force and the first 4 riders in the front row suffered injuries but no deaths.
@@VlogssWithAri there was no glitch. The winds made the first car fail the loop and then the operator manually overode the safety system later on, sending a car with passengers that had stopped down

I loved it but cried at the same time and I lent on banging my head on the head rest because of the 14 loops and I passed out for like a split second then screamed to the top of my lungs
Yeah im going on this ride soon for the first time, I have never done any looped rollar coaster ever and im just really nervous. Last time I dipped out last second because I felt horrible. But I hope I go on it this time.
So? How did it feel? Contemplating about going on it but i don't appreciate the look of upside-down coasters at all nor have i ever been on one.. The theming is lurking me closer to it though
love every ride at alton towers BUT this one. i will never go on this i hated it so much i passed out. i WOKE UP WHEN H GO VERTICALLY UP AND I WAS LIKE WHAT IS GOING ON 💀
If you go alton towers you should def go on smiler first it builds up your courage to go on things like rita and wickerman
"builds your courage for wickerman"
lmao what?
I've been on wickerman and people don't pass out on wickerman
@@AFGuidesHD yh well u know what I mean and oblivion my first ever ride was smiler
Greatest ride ever with a tarnished history and you feel a little guilty when you go on it and enjoy it.
It adds to the atmosphere that already is pretty freaky, if you ask me😂
@@fabianspencer5611 whatever fella
Went in this today , balled my eyes out when I saw the halfway point , I thought it was done 😟
Alton Towers, queue for 2 hours, go on the ride. Queue for 2 hours go on another ride. Queue for 2 hours, the park closes, £42 entry what a bargain.
unlucky. My queue time was 20 minutes
@@lotte2899 what??? That’s insane queue time… i’ve had to wait 3 and a half hours before
@@Crimsrn Week day, closest parking, as soon as it opened we got to smiler and it was around 23 minute wait. The other rides were around 13 apart from nemesis which was around 25
This looks like a beast and I love how much fun they have
i got on the front row on the first time id ever been to alton towers! I was so excited, and i couldnt stop smiling during the ride. coincidence?
THATS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME
Honestly was shitting myself before I went on the smiler for the first time but it was amazing, smooth ride, made me slightly dizzy, NOT SICK but dizzy, weirdest bit is ur actually smiling the whole way around…
That is the best ride I have been on, I also love Nemesis and Wicker man
0:17 someone say JOIN US.
That’s part of the ride experience
@@Yasin_2312 oh ok thanks
Join us hahahahahahshahaha
You belong to the smiler
That was one of the most smooth povs I’ve ever seen
Love the ride, hate the 2nd lift hill. Especially when it's windy🥴😬 The track shakes from side to side sometimes
It isn’t aloud to operate over high winds, because that happens and the train stalls.
Tho it is rough when it is up in high winds.
The best ride I've ever been on by a clear margin
I don't think I have been on a ride with that many inversions
You wouldm't have, since it holds the world record for the most inversions
no! Duh! This coaster has the most inversions in the world so farm
@@ponkypink3147 Well I wasn't looking for sass wasn't I.
Before this came along, Thorpe park held the record with colossus
@@coolcattigger and before that it was dragon kahn in portaventura
You really captured the ride perfectly. My shoulders are hurting.
God, I wanna ride this one so bad. the design is so cool too
Whilst you seemed super cool and hands free..... your white knuckles brought back memories of MY white knuckles :)
Omg how steep is this coaster. I must admit id be a bit put off by the accident but good on you for giving it a go
Same I feel like every dime I see or think about this ride I think of the accident
Just get your selves on it. Its a very good ride. Been on it about 8 times now. Its one to experience as videos don't do it justice. This ride aswell as others has had tight safety measures put in place to ensure safety. Don't be put off by that accident let it add to the thrill. Bless those that got injured tho.
Guess what?
The crash was human error
You shouldn’t be afraid of anything besides the lore and music
THE SMILER IS A SAFE RIDE
The accident could've happened with any roller coaster. It was caused by pure human error. The ride was running perfectly fine that day.
@@justarandompeep412 well then why not be afraid of human error happening again?
That is one amazing roller coaster. I absolutely love the inversions.
Bro even after the crash it had, I still love riding this, 10/10
Edit: fixed grammar mistake :)
Tf you mean “crashes”
The Smiler has only had 1 crash -_-
@@Th3Sm1lerGrammar mistake :')
I’m going Alton towers tomorrow. I’m really excited :)
I would be so dizzy after this one.
That's an impressive coaster. I like how they put up the signs telling you Half Way.
Despite the accident, I really would love to ride this, great vid 👍
It would be much safer now :)
Went to Alton Towers as a reward trip as it was the end of the year last week, went on wickerman then smiler, Was pretty scared as wickerman was my first ever roller coaster but then when i went on smiler it was too funny, heard someone shouting, "TAKE ME BACK! TAKE ME BACK" on the part where you go vertically upwards
I went on this coaster about 10 days ago and it feels like it brain wipes you
Haha when the ride ends you think what just happened
In case the incident has tainted your view of this ride, I'd like to tell you the operators ignored the warning to stop the train (cart/car/carriage.) The crash was their fault, and everyone on the ride suffered minor injuries. The ride does not kill people and it never has.
A graze or bruise is a minor injury, not amputation. Two children in the front row had to be amputated, including a ballet dancer.
@@56independent42 Shit. I forgot about that.
yeah and since, they have never ran 5 trains again thankfully@@56independent42
the fact they were laughing the whole time omg 😨😨😨😨
5 year old me when this came out would of never believed I’m able to ride it now, I used to scream even on baby coasters at fairs or the seaside.
This one looks fun 🤩
Probably the first coaster I’ve I seen that lets you know when the half way point is with a sign 😂😂
Ah, the Vominator.
2:26 he starts moving his arms like he’s a planet coaster person lol.
It was at the top of my bucket list, ever since August 2021, and I finally got to go on it last month! I was so happy! Hahahaha..
gosh I am terrified to go on it tbh. do I think u could tell me how u felt? and are u usually scared of coasters like this? it's totally ok if not but I'm just debating whether or not I should go on it because im a little scared lol. thank you!
@@sha.2429 you don’t get that stomach drop feeling like on drops on different costers, you don’t really feel yourself going upside down and I’m usually not afraid because I’m a massive thrill seeker! Hope this helped :)
@@able_.e thank you so much for sharing!! I can't wait to ride the smiler now, it looks so fun. Thank you so much)
cool how you snook your gopro on to the ride despite it being a rule not to! ha ha ha
