Ah yes, manga that you definitely read in the past 2 years, surely.
I like how Hellsing literally looks like a Bible or something, just a massive thicc chonker, very appropriate. Definitelly one of those anime I should not have watched at the age that I did.
It's absurd how there are only "2" games that are actually based on manga/anime and don't just share the same name. There is some side-scroller mobile game, and a cancelled PS2 game. That's it. This is a prime IP for some crazy fun hack n slash gameplay, yet no one capitalizes on it (prolly bc it's old. Manga ran 1997-2008. OG anime 2001-2002. Hellsing Ultimate (canon adaptation) 2006-2012, but it was sporadic, not continuos release. just like someone's video output, huh :smirk_emoji:)
On the FMA anime, yeah the OG came out in 2003. Watching that as a kid really messed me up, as it's darker compraed to later more canon version Brotherhood (which I didn't actually watch when it was airing since I saw the announcment on local TV channel and went "it's the same thing? what's the point?". Much later I happened to tune in on it by accident, at the very end of the story and was super confused and kinda upset that it turned out to be different after all, and I couldn't ask my mom for a DVD disk, since she really didn't like wasting money on "useless" stuff like games and cartoons.), though they split at a certain point to create an alt storyline. While Brotherhood is more in-line with manga, it still skips some stuff and whenever they call back to that stuff in a flashback etc, it comes off out of nowhere since audience literally doesn't see it happen.
4:55 I'm not gonna wait for the fabled manga read, so I'll just say it right now - the character on the cover is voiced by Kiana's VA in both anime. Once I catch up with S;G lp, I gotta point out another VA in that game, I feel like it's a new gimmick at this point...
5:00 - and this guy voices Spider-Man in the JP dub of Ps1/PC game (2000).
Shortly after the time-stamp, you said that manga is the true form with the most details, and while I agree as that's the case 99% of the time (unless there is a light-novel, THAT becomes the OG source in that case, as a lot of mangas are based on LN), it can sometime be the oppossite if the mangaka steps in on the production. Bleach became a MAJOR case of anime >> manga, due to context. This however **only** applies to the latest ongoing arc (the arc got it's own anime in 2022 after the original runtime spent 10 fucking years in the cryochamber, after they decided to move the anime to a diff studio, which never happened, the same studio animates the anime as they always have, so it's nice to see them evolve) since mangaka had an injury when manga was still ongoin which made him struggle with the manga + publishers were pushing for the closure of the IP, while he still had at least a few months worth of work to do which all combined made the final arc look like a underground facelift surgeon's victim. Very glad Tite Kubo (Bleach mangaka) is aggressively putting his foot down in the current anime production to right the decade-old wrongs that were never his fault to begin with (and we might get the OG anime remake??? Kubo himself was quite dissapointed with the OG adaptation so I hope he gets to direct the remake if it happens). Though I guess, there is it;s own experience and beauty in seeing what happened in the manga and how it gets fixed in the anime, huh. Seeing it all in full-motion with the OG VAs and remixes of OG OST def felt good tho, after 10 years of wait.
Naruto is getting a remake anime as well, but idk how to feel about it since there is Naruto Kai which is a fan-editied version of the anime which fixes all the padding caused by studio needing to stretch the episodes bc they ran out of content to animate to fill all 24 minutes. I don't watch a whole lot anime these days (the most anime I watched was in 2018), but I'd like to believe anime production got better due to switch to seasonal releases, rather than trying to ride the hype of the manga as it publishes.
OH, I guess before I close-off the topic, I gotta mention Dororo, which is another interesting anime vs manga case. The OG manga is from 60s I believe and it shows how much influence America's cartoons had on the media at the time, it literally adopts the Steamboat Willie's art style and is mixing in comedy (like horses having license plates etc) in an otherwise dark medieval (idk my Japanese eras, I'm sorry, so I'm just gonna generalize) story. There have since then 3 anime adaptations (1969, 1999 and 2019) which all do something different with the story.
And and then there is Tokyo Ghoul anime.. We don't talk about Tokyo Ghoul anime.
8:10 Hey, that was me pretty sure, who was telling you about 4-koma comedy stuff being part of the manga releases, which got cut out in the re-release (I hardly remember the whole convo, been years after all). Not every chapter has them, most don't in fact. Based on your covers and number of volumes, you do have Fullmetal Edition, which doesn't have them I believe.
14:50 one of these days I have to get into Berserk, I didn't put all those thousands of hours into From Soft for nothing XD. Bloodborne even uses the same brand design from the cover, but upside down to be legally destinct, it's pretty funny. And yes, I this section of the comment is a giant plug for the Bloodborne emulator progress, they are hauling ass with the playability of the game, bc Sony is too scared of making money (like, even tho you make people buy a console and the game to bloat the price, if you just have people buy the PC version, WAAAY more people would be willing to do so, which would net better income through sheer numbers alone, since pirates have access to the game one way or the other, it being on the console doesn't help you, clearly, never did and never will, so we can discard that as an excuse. We are getting Bloodborne on PC before GTA 6 and Elder Scrolls 6 🗣🗣).
Idk if you ended up looking it up afterall, but Ajin did finish (2012-2020), it only has 17 volumes.
Good job getting AOT: No Regrets. Though I never watched the OVA, and didn't even know it had manga.
IDK what's happening but my Firefox browser reliably crashes whenever I post a comment and refresh the page.... Trying this using Chrome.

Damn--I had no idea how old Helsing was! And yes, yes, yes, I've been sporadic as all hell in the last 2-3 years :D. So many books left unread in all the moving and disruption! Reading written books at a pace I've never maintained before... but it's been at the cost of playing video games and the time lost to producing them as let's plays. Man... remarkable how much TIME frees up when I let that grind fade away, huh!? So... realigning my time management to shift to books for a few months... let's see how far I manage to take AOT!
I recall seeing/hearing Bleach come up a lot when I followed a lot more manga book channels a couple years ago. I think I TRIED to watch EP1--my god... over a decade ago?!? Does that sound right--and I'll be honest... I couldn't even finish EP1 :S. It just didn't land for me in the time it had to hook me. But the series is so long running and on top lists that I feel like it has to be me OR it's one of those manga/anime that needs time to cook..?? Not sure!
I've actually heard about that Bloodborne emulation progress last week... man oh man... THAT is tempting. If I do another Souls-like LP, it would be Bloodborne. The style is something that is very appealing to me. I'm curious to see how that lands!
