Thanks Keith, you found some really nice items at the Fla. Flywheels swap meet! I didn't get to watch this while drinking morning coffee, storm up here knocked out power and I forgot to charge my phone!...duh
Saw Steven's video earlier today. I watch guys restoring cars, they their shears a lot. That hardness tester looks like. Good trade on those jaws. Enjoy watching your shop grow.
I'm surprised that you didn't go with a older wilson rockwell hardness tester with all the nice old machines you have, it would have looked really nice in your amazing shop. I love your channel I've been goin through your videos for about 2 years now
Great little Beverly shear. They work great for cutting curves. You will also want Beverly's brother, Jack. The Jack shear is also throatless and is for making straight cuts.
Keith. Check out the latest Home Shop Machinist magazine (March/April). There's an article on making a Machine Way Alignment Tool. There's some history about the tool in the article as well as how it works. Just More Fun
Well, you made me pay up for it! Hope you find another one soon. I have been looking for this one for about four months now, so they don't come up everyday. Of course now, they will probably come out of the woodwork!
They were still making that Stanley rule in the 1930s. You can get a 36" version made by Sybren in Holland from Highland Hardware in Atlanta, if anyone is interested. Here is a link: www.highlandwoodworking.com/hardwood-folding-rule.aspx
Great to hear some UA-cam creator updates. We love to see the great tools, even machines that you are able to get into that wonderful shop. The flag is a beautiful shop addition Keith. Lots of great things to share. Lance & Patrick.
24:34 Question Keith... Have you anchored those tool cabinets? Either to floor or wall. Have seen a 'near miss' when a couple of upper (heavily loaded) draws got pulled out and had little in the lower portion of the cabinet. Bits & pieces and a couple of drawers went some 20+ feet across the shop! Not pretty! Ken
Thanks for sharing all these goodies. Would you please post the name of those little red boxes for your hardware storage. I know you mentioned it but I could not quite catch it.
Keith - any idea how you would go about creating a replacement lid? Would you cast it? Stamp it (maybe out of aluminum?)? Thanks very much. I happen to have one of the one's without the lid (how did they lose them!?)
@Keith Rucker - VintageMachinery.org Hah, I thought there was never going to be one with a lid so got one without - now in the world of figuring out how to make this thing. Yes, seems to be stamped from a decently thick piece.. meaning not something I can do. Trying to figure out whether to cast it from maybe aluminium, weld something somehow, have it casted for me or stamped for me ($$). After that, going to try to make the Norton logo tag myself with some etching. Congrats on finding yours! Glad you are restoring it :)
Do you actually just live on ebay? No offence, GREAT FIND, but I have been on the hunt for that Norton Oil Stone holder for 5 years. If I do find one on fleabay they want $1000 (no, it isn't worth it), or they are the plastic ones (and two of them I saw recently were cracked). I guess I just don't have the "touch" on Craiglist, FB Marketplace or Fleabay. *sigh*. I was wondering if you were down at the FL Flywheelers with Adam...looks like Abby found some nice stuff as well...Adam is in for it now. LOL
The number stamps is missing a 9. I know, some of you are saying "Turn the 6 over, and you'll have a 9", but because of the serif, it just doesn't look quite right to me. Sorry, guys!
Those number stamps are stupid. All the numbers are backwards... Will you restore the box for the measuring thing? It certainly needs some foam padding inside.
As to the box, I have asked Richard King to send me some photos of what the box was like originally. He has one with the correct inside parts. I hope to restore it back to original. As for the backwards numbers, if they were not backwards, they would be when you stamped them!
@@VintageMachinery Pattern makers use reversed stamps when making patterns for raised letters on castings. I have run across them at garage sales. Not much use for them personally, but they do have a purpose. 😆
I really love your channel and have been a fan since before your nice shop. But.....what is UA-cam doing? I had to play almost 9 minutes of commercials before I got to see this installment. UA-cam seems to be working you creators over, pretty hard. I still watch, and will. I just turn off the sound and clean my desk till they're over!
9 min! That is extreme. So sorry - but I don't have any control over this. And my cut of all of that advertising is virtually nothing... This is why I pay for UA-cam Premium. I hate paying it but it does away with the ads - and the kick back that we UA-cam Creators get is higher from a UA-cam Premium view than a regular view where you watch the ads!
@@VintageMachinery im paying for premium so interesting you get more from that per view than ads. I used ad blockers on pc but not easy on my phone and premium although i hate paying I feel less guilty watching videos from great content creators such as yourself and i just cant stand ads
@@VintageMachinery I was not assigning any blame to you, Kieth, and I apologize if I didn't make myself clearer. I meant no offense to you and I hope none was taken. Great score on the King-Way, Keith!
Nice additions to the shop.
i just got an import clone of a Beverly shear. I really like mine! I use it for making sheet metal parts for repairing car bodies.
Lately Abom79 got a hardness tester and Stefan Gotteswinter got a microscope. Keith Rucker shows 'em both up getting a harness testing microscope!

Yes it is, but it is a precision tool and is not easy (or cheap) to make! I don't mind paying for quality.
If the sharpening stones get too worn on one side, is it possible to flip them over in their cradle and use the opposite side?
Yes, you can remove them. I will be doing this when I restore the set. Have not tried it yet, but it should be doable in principle.
