This is so common in India, in the form of bhandaras or langars... Not just the religious places, a lot of upper middle class families ( if the can afford it) also have bhandaras... My family once hosted one and as I was passing the food to some poor kids, the smiles on their faces were literally divine ❤️
It is not just upper middle class... generally people who have enough money to spend, they usually do this. I know my relatives in India don't have a lot of money but have enough to live on. Once in awhile they would feed the poor in the neighborhood after doing pooja at the temple. Yes, I agree with you Arpita Tripathi it gives you a good feeling when you see smiles on their faces.
Its so sad so many rich and wealthy people wouldnt even think about doing this. Personally id love doing this in europe but my family doesnt havr enough money to do that. It makes me happy there are atleast some people looking out for the poor

Why not? If I were to do this in either city, I would make it a niche restaurant. Then I'd make sure the people understand we run on donations and in return we donate half the proceeds. I would also try to offer something extra you don't normally get a restaurant. Finally add quality ingredients and quality customer service. Want and example? How about a local food only restaurant where you get locally grown and locally caught food. Add something extra like being able to dine with an elderly person from a retirement home. Think "rent a grandparent" type situation but for donation only. Can even make the elderly the recipients of half the proceeds. Or how about a virtual reality restaurant where, as you eat, you go on a guided vr tour of some place historical. In either situation people would want to donate because they would want to come back and they know their donations are going to something positive. That's how you make this business model work.
We have a restaurant like this in Newtown sydney that used to be pay as you feel. But due to very low contributions and rent (I think) it wasn't sustainable. Suppose that you were sitting down at this table. The napkins are in front of you, which napkin would you take? The one on your ‘left’? Or the one on your ‘right’? The one on your left side? Or the one on your right side? Usually you would take the one on your left side. That is ‘correct’ too. But in a larger sense on society, that is wrong. Perhaps I could even substitute ‘society’ with the ‘Universe’. The correct answer is that ‘It is determined by the one who takes his or her own napkin first.’ …Yes? If the first one takes the napkin to their right, then there’s no choice but for others to also take the ‘right’ napkin. The same goes for the left. Everyone else will take the napkin to their left, because they have no other option. This is ‘society’… Who are the ones that determine the price of land first? There must have been someone who determined the value of money, first. The size of the rails on a train track? The magnitude of electricity? Laws and Regulations? Who was the first to determine these things? Did we all do it, because this is a Republic? Or was it Arbitrary? NO! The one who took the napkin first determined all of these things! The rules of this world are determined by that same principle of ‘right or left?’! In a Society like this table, a state of equilibrium, once one makes the first move, everyone must follow! In every era, this World has been operating by this napkin principle. And the one who ‘takes the napkin first’ must be someone who is respected by all. It’s not that anyone can fulfill this role… Those that are despotic or unworthy will be scorned. And those are the ‘losers’. In the case of this table, the ‘eldest’ or the ‘Master of the party’ will take the napkin first… Because everyone ‘respects’ those individuals.

This business model wouldn't last a second in LA or NYC lol
There's a couple near Skid Row.
We have a restaurant like this in Newtown sydney that used to be pay as you feel. But due to very low contributions and rent (I think) it wasn't sustainable. They have now a minimal contribution lol

A restaurant (Panera bread I believe) in Portland OR tried this. It went bust after a while - not sure it Portland was just too small for this model to work or if it's a cultural thing, but it's an example of this model going wrong

@@MIsT.x no not mostly i will tell you a story there was a garden in our society .there were we friends in our colony we were 5 and and amongst us 5 there was this guy whose grandma was once a parshad i dont know what thats called in english so she was on that position 12 years ago and her ego was that she ruled that garden like it was her personal property as it was maintained by her .She did not let people above 16 enter the garden and always argued yhe basic karen attitude and whenever there was garbage in that gwrden and she see us playinh she would come evertime and say dont throw the garbage but that packet of kurkure was thrown by her grandson and she was not agreeing to that and told one of my friend to pick it up and throw it in his home dustbin. My friend sayed no i will not she then said pick it up or i will slap you.My friend was very big one he said in return ae you old woman go and go do your work this got her angry she got to my friend's home and in anger ringed the bell 6 times and called his father out a d told her that he told him that .His father knew that she was a stupid women and her grandson is very big lier.Hisfather cut the sentence of that women and say dont you ever dare to come near any of these children and scold them your parshad position was over 12 years ago. That moment omg we all stand still and then laughed so much as his father straight up lowered all that womens leader attitude
so yeah india is full of karens if not in my contact there are many

That's so beautiful. maybe one day I will be able to visit. In my state there is a small cafe that only accepts donations. And they will feed someone even if they have no money because the customers know that a good donation will help feed another person. Its staff are beautiful people one's with disorders, mentally challenged and handicap. I wish more restaurants would open like that.
This type of resturant would go bankrupt real fast here in america
also if Chinese tourists decide to pay a visit
