Oh how I love Arnolds Attic. Like most all of the artists featured I loved the work of Val Holmes. There are so many very talented people in the world and it is so nice that I get to see the work of some of them from my Wisconsin home. Thank you for the inspiration and the pure enjoyment.
Thank you Susan for your kind comments. It's always wonderful to hear from one of my viewers. I'm so happy that the 'Meet the Artist' collection is inspiring viewers in the USA! Thank you again for watching and feel free to share - Katie :)
I do so enjoy these videos on 'Meet the Artist'. Some I know, some are introduced to me via here, and I have gone on to read their books or research them further. Thank you so much.
Thank you Vanessa, I'm so glad - there are so many talented artists out there :) . Please check out my textile playlists for more inspiration. There are many more videos in the pipeline. :)
I agree, she's a brilliant embroiderer. Val's used a lot of mixed media in the past to create surfaces to stitch into - printing & adding texture with paper - I'm fascinated that these practices have evolved into a digital 'texture' for surface design. My head was buzzing with pattern & colour when I finished editing this video. Keep watching, there are more "Meet the Artist" videos in the pipeline (plus my Textile Playlists for you to browse through over a cuppa) :)
Is Val beginning with her own digital art or is she using art from other artists and distorting it to embroider on? It is all beautiful but she refers to other artists which makes me wonder how she may be using existing artwork. Is she creating the original and then she photoshops with layers? I’m not familiar with photoshop.
Val uses a combination of existing classical artwork from the old masters and her own artwork and uses Software to layer them to create unique surfaces for embroidery. Thank you for watching Joan 😊
There is a publisher of handsome art and craft related books including textile art by artists such as Kay Sekimachi, Sandy Swirnoff, and a beautiful publication on African American quilts. These books are filled with inspiring and rich images and fascinating stories. www.fineartspress.com
