What router bit did you use? and what was your method for making those aligned properly? This is pretty much exactly the idea I was looking for, for my wahuda jointer which is very similar to this one. Thanks for the vid.
If I remember correctly, I used a 3/4” cove router bit, without a bearing of course. I eye balled everything and slowly snuck up on the “precise cut.” If you have any more questions, please let me know. I’m happy to help!
I really like this. How do you account for raising and lowering the infeed table when the extension is fixed by that support board? Doesn't it cause misalignment?
Great question! I actually always left the infeed at the same level. 1/16” deep of a cut. The outfeed wont matter. Im glad you mentioned that though because i sold this set up to my cousin and i forgot to tell him…
If you do the same thing, you could make an adjustable height support arm…
How did you join the two extension pipes and put the end back on, they are only threaded on one end?
Did i miss adding that part in the video? They are threaded on both ends. You just need the right all thread or cut the head off of a bolt with the same thread. Does that make sense?
@@HurdCrafters weird, mine are not threaded on both sides, only the side that gets the cross bar. I even just got a new set from Wahuda and those are only threaded at one end.
Is there a way to send pictures on here? You have to full disassemble the round rods…
Man this was the video I've been looking for! How has it been holding up? In your opinion, does this remove the need to upgrade to a stationary jointer??
I only used it a few month after the second upgrade. The extension were not strong enough to put a ton of for e/weight through so it was really just like having a roller stand to support longer boards. I could only flatten a 4-6’ long board depending on material and how rough it was. I think this is a great jointer for a beginner but if you have the space, power and money, get a larger jointer with a helical head. If i could do over, i would buy once cry once. I had to upgrade this fall for a large table build. If have any questions or anything, im happy to help if you decide to extend yours…if you have one???
@@HurdCrafters Thanks a lot with the quick response! I do have a 8in Wen supposed spiral head. It does the trick for my current needs. I will also order some replacment bars to extend my jointer. I like your build I will just beef it up a bit like you stated.
Nice mod. Don’t you also need a longer fence?
A longer fence would be super beneficial, but I never got around to upgrading that. I ended up upgrading jointers for a large job. However, it would be super easy to upgrade the fence by just using baltic birch ply or melamine and some clamps…
I also recommend making the extensions adjustable if you plan to change your cut depth any. I left mine at around 1/32” deep of a cut at all times so i did not need that adjustment…
@@HurdCrafters BOW makes a nice 36” fence that might work, but it’s aluminum.
@HDBoyWonder I sold the jointer since this video and upgraded to an 8” grizzly with spiral head. It’s already time to upgrade again.
@@HurdCrafters I was wondering about that. To be adjustable that would mean no brace underneath.
Very cool.
