    This concept of using a MP3 audio recorder works very well. I have been using an old netbook running Win10 and it has been unreliable over the past 8 months. I bought a Sony ICD-UX570 and use an Android tablet to access the recorded audio files in order to add mp3 tags and artwork. I am only sorry I did not find this info years ago!

    Gary,
    Thank you for creating such a great video, easy to understand and not rambling on like so many reviews do. Because of you, I purchased a Sony UX560, and use it exactly like you describe, from rca tape out on my Church's mixer. I've been using that output to a mic in on my camcorder, with and without an attenuator, no difference, with just ok sound. Was sometimes bringing my laptop for audio, but too cumbersome. Recently even tried hdmi capture devices, which combines video and audio, but terrible audio and questionable video. Next usb powered Android audio interface, but unreliable apps make this option also no good. The best way for great video AND great audio, using inexpensive equipment (Vixia R60 $400) (Sony UX560 $81) is to record them separately and marry them later in PowerDirector15. A more expensive camera would be easier, but many, including us, cannot afford $1500-3000 to spend on video equipment. I used to use a Diamond usb capture device to laptop for video and line in for audio, which captured video and audio togerther, but it wasn't good enough resolution, only 480. I know a DVD is low also, my final product for those too old or sick to attend services, but when I use 1080 recording, it looks really good. So after all my try and errors, I now use this little Sony UX560 audio recorder, because of running across your video. And when we have an extraordinarily good singer, it captures the beauty so perfect, which makes awesome CD's.
    Thank You Gary, Jim

  • @samgjdavies

    Awesome vid! This has to be the best & simplest tutorial I've found to connect a mp3 player to a mixer to record audio directly from the mixer. Definitely one of the best ways to record live music & audio through a mixer that I've seen. Is it the same to set up if I was recording using another mp3 recorder like an iRiver or some of the digital voice recorders? (like the ones from Philips, Olympus, Zoom, Tascam or Yamaha?)

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  10 років тому +1

      Most of the better quality recorders with a microphone input have the function to switch the input from "microphone" to "audio in". In the case where the recorder has a microphone only input an "attenuated" lead can be used. This is the same type of lead but with the addition of a resister built into it to reduce the level going into the recorder. I may even do a video in the future showing how to make one of these leads if there is enough interest.

  • @One-Eyed-Willly

    My mixer don't have a tape out but it has USB. With the loop-back disengaged, I have to use a head phone splitter amp connected to the head phone jack. Then I plug the recorder into the head phone splitter. That way I can fine tune the audio levels and still use my head phones.

      Yes I used my iphone 5 for the first videos and then purchased a Sony RX10 and found the change in quality was outstanding. I moved my filming down to the garage and setup better lighting, so it wasn't just the camera. I plugged the mike directly into the camera by means of an extension lead that I adjusted so I picked up both channels.

Is it posible to make my own mix through the auxillary channels output and record to my recorder without interrupting their mix. Thank you

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  9 років тому

      Emanuel Productions That is a good question. It is possible to mix another output for your recorder via an AUX OUT (post fader) from each channel on the mixer. The same principles applies to plugging in a recorder to this output. You would just have to be a little more careful with this because some AUX line outputs are quite hot. I don't know how you would go fighting the mixer operator for access to his space but I will leave that up to you. Hope this helps a little.

    If you put minor increase on main level wouldn’t this make the audio clipping? are we also be able to get high quality audio using this method by using the zoom H1n or H1?

    • @GaryDmedia
      @GaryDmedia  5 років тому

      Yes if you don’t allow for headroom in the recording level. What this means is: lower the sensitivity of the mic/line input so if the master gain is raised you will still be under the clipping point. It is always good to setup the equipment with this in mind unless your recorder has some sort of compression setting. Even so, in these cheaper recorders it much better to take a little time to set them up properly.

      That's not good that you are getting noise in your recordings. What has been a help to many is an analogue to digital converter. Here is an amazon link to one to have a look at. amzn.to/2eFphiV My brother has used one of these and has had good success. This is only an economical unit and there are much better quality AD converters available that cost many hundreds of dollars. You simply connect your mixer to your computer in a similar way to what you saw in the video but the AD converter connects to your computer via a USB connection. Hope this gives you some other options.

      Stanley, you may be better saving up for a recorder specifically designed for that job. The Zoom H5 and H6 are good options. These have much better connections that can used for professional audio equipment. Hope that is helpful.

      The H1n has the ability to reduce the input sensitivity so that it becomes a line in. Even the input is labelled Mic / Line in. The Sony unit only has stepped adjustment. Hope that helps Azizul. Check out the downloadable manual for the H1n. I noticed in the Zoom H1n specifications it says the input can be adjusted: “Input connector: stereo mini jack −∞ dB - +39 dB input gain 2 kΩ or higher input impedance plug-in power (2.5 V) supported”

    • @GaryDmedia

      Shalem Raj Yes you can use the headphone output. The danger is that the headphone output is quite loud for the mic in on a recorder and will distort the recording. Yes you can get leads to try it out but you would be much better using the record out jacks on the mixer.
