Really lovely track and mesmerising work by Rudnick. Interacting with the scrubber and altering the resolution is like a game, creating digital deviations of the pattern as you go.
Are you familiar with the tulip mania that occurred in the 17th century, during the Dutch Golden Age? If not, I recommend that you take maybe two or three minutes to skim the Wikipedia entry. There had to have been at least one guy going "It's just a tulip. Seriously. It's a flower. What the hell are you all doing?" And nobody listened to that guy/the voice of reason back then, and nobody listens to that guy now. It's the Cassandra curse or whatever from Homer. The Greek seer who is right about everything, but nobody listens to him, and then I think he got devoured by a sea monster. I guess my point is, articulating your disapproval of pretty much anything, is rarely rewarding. In 2017 or thereabouts, I was at a Cabinet show and I snagged a pack of marb reds off the dance floor, and there were five cigs and at least seven grams of molly in there. If someone told me that they had some kind of emotional attachment to anything that happened at that show, or that they even remember it, or that some dumb song gave them some kind of emotional catharsis/healing, I'd give them a look that said "I think you're out of your goddamn mind," but I'd never say it out loud, because that's not cricket. Personally, I think this song sucks. I want every song to be "Call it Love." So I'm beyond shocked that not only is nobody criticizing this track for not being a retread of my favourite song from six years ago, people are sharing emotional stories in the comments, as if this maybe somewhat ok song deserves any of that. To me, it's not just a tune, it's also bad, and disappointing. But there's no point in my saying that, because I'm not going to change anyone's mind, and if anything, someone's going to write an even longer novel of a comment explaining why I'm an idiot, and this bleep bloop blop musical minecraft crap is actually a thousand times better than Call it Love. But whatever. Go Bills
