It’s hard to believe that this came out 7 years ago… on my first viewing of this film, standing in my kitchen, in my headphones… such a powerful, elating and eye opening experience… I was literally in full tears at the end.

I get tears in my eyes every time I watch this master piece, as a palestinian who lived abroad from age 18 for almost 6 years then came back home (due to pandemic and other personal reasons) I can feel everything in this scenario, in Arabic it's called "ghareeb fi bladak", to be foreigner/stranger in your homeland. It's so many struggles combined you deal with, it's the active and post-colonialism we are going through in such countries, North Africa and all blad al sham and central Asian countries, we are tired yet we want to fight back, and decolonize our minds and bodies. My ultimate dream is to see the day when all borders and walls will fall and have a huge party all together from Sahara to Kabul and through AL Quds and Jaffa, Beirut, South to Sanaa, Algiers Baghdad.. Thank you the blaze
Im Christian but we all know the unhuman and illegal country of ”Israel” and their actions , imperialism at is finest. And lets not forget the 50+ countries USA has overthrowned since ww2. Stay strong Akhi
what load of bullshit... post-colonialism what? could not tell your story without mixing with some ideological garbage... no borders... first convince your peers out of ISIS, if you managed that first then talk about unity like this, borders exists because of cultural differences, the naivity of this shallow empathy discourse
Every few months I come back to this video. This song, the video, the emotions it's so powerful. Reading the comments you can see just how much it resonates with so many of us lost out there. But one comment in particular always gets me, I can't help but tear up when reading it. The comment seems to be deleted now but I managed to save a copy before it was. I hope whoever wrote it is doing well, this is what they said: It's a weird feeling, wanting to go back home but there's no home to go back to, a child without a parent, a citizen without a country, a traveler that lost his destination. I've visited about 40 countries, resided in 10, and none seem to fill this need of home. I went back once but home was gone, there was nothing left, just dust and ghosts and memories that now haunt me. The room I used to share with my 8 brothers and sisters doesn't exist anymore. It stopped existing the second I left. I was there some years ago and I could almost picture the house back together small and brown and the dog and my grandfather smoking and smell my grandmother cooking for all of us. People told me there were explosions on the horizon but I couldn't hear anything, I just screamed. This is a marvellous video, I wish we could all be so lucky. I'd give my limbs to be the man in this video, back home with my parents my grandparents my brothers my cousins my friends, my kin my blood my family. I'd trade it all. But they're not here and I'm not there and you can't interrupt the flow and ask why it is. It just is. They don't want me there, but I don't want me here. Fuck man, I've never been this homesick.
I remember when I moved away (to France). I was 22 and had no idea what I was doing in life, all I knew was that I had to get away. My mother supported the decision to my face but she kept saying that I'll always comes home, ''because that's I always do''. I don't think she delieved that I really would move away so far. When I left I wasn't scared I was excited, I had no money, no phone, and I spoek no French at all. I had a person I could stay with and they would meet me at a train station in Centre at a certain time. My mother and my sister both brought me to the airport and we sat and had a last talk in the cafe there. Everyone was normal and happy, mother saying things like stay safe, watch out for pickpockets, it was all very normal. I remember thinking how well my mother is dealing with it all. The time came and I had to get through security and wait for my plane so I had to say goodbye. I kissed my mother and sister, big hugs and my mother made a joke then I walked off. As I was walking away from them I immediately felt alone, even though they were just a few meters behind me I knew they were gone and it wouldn't ever be the same. I said I wouldn't turn around but I couldn't help it, I had to wave goodbye to my mother. She was on the floor in tears, she couldn't even breathe or stand.I had never seen her so broken. I didn't think about how much I was hurting her because I was young and needed a new life. I wasn't allowed to walk back then and I had to leave her. That was the hardest point for me. I wish I didn't look back.
Somebody said this video is recorded in Algeria. I cannot wait to visit Algeria this year. I am working on my tourist visa. . Yaaay. And I love love love this song so much . ❤️🎼🎼
Yes it was recorded in the casabah of Algiers , if you're coming I advise you to visit Constantine , Bejaia and annaba these are my personal favorites , but cities like tipaza oran telmcan also deserve a chance
I'm still having so much trouble believing that this was pure acting. The way I was crying with him in the beginning is exactly the reason why I was convinced this video was real. No dialogue and this character and his story are three-dimensional. This is easily the best music video I've had the privilege to watch.
@scanny the man who cries every 15 minutes due to something that has deeply, emotionally hurt him is more of a man than one who feels the same way but does not cry out of fear of judgement.
The ability to capture the intimacy of this family and make me feel like I’m right there dancing on that rooftop with them is something I’ve never experienced in a music video before. Unreal.
just a freaking good director for sure. that needs a damn good combo of imagination/knowing what you want to show and a lot of skill in advising ur cast and finding the perfect people for that cast. Just skills. Not necessarily experience. But it's rare, because it's not easy to create something that authentic and touching. And they work with alot of "opposites" in this video, it's like when u see a "hard muscular guy" cry, it will hit you way harder than a small, tiny guy. Just because you didn't expect it. That touches. I think it's a complex mix of all those things together. A big part out of concept/planing but i also think, as i said, that it needs the right director, the right people and amount of patience, stupidly said: the feelings which each and everyone is ready to invest. Great teamwork for sure there.
Thats fucking crazy because even though the beginning kind of tells you he went back home, I didn't interpret it that way but the song did give me a feeling of wanting to go back home. He seemed happy around his family and friends and like... idk how to describe the feeling but its so real, sad, happy and relieving.😊
After 128 mln views... i'm here.. every cell in my body vibrates with this amazing piece of art but at the same time it hurts like fuck... Much love to all you beautiful people.. Much love from the Netherlands 😞

When meeting people who have left there countries chasing the western dream I often get the sense that they never find what they were looking for here in Europe or America. But they love the feeling they get when they return, the respect they get and admiration of their friends and family as someone who ‘made it’…
I'm from Algeria where this story happens, the scenario is very well made, it about a "harrag" (someone who goes to another country illegally seeking a better life) coming back to his original territory (home) to the sad miserable life, where he's forced to live, so he starts going crazy for it and loses his mind on it.. it's kinda sad that countless amount of people are living like this. (this is my interpretation of it tho.) edit: after a while, and through the replies, i realised that everyone can make their own interpretation depending on their emotional situation when watching... it hits different people differently, that's true art...evokes emotions. (some hate, some relate, some miss their home/family/territory, some feel proud, some feel threatened.. etc. thanks for all the replies)
I see it as someone (harrag that finally gets legal papers) visiting home after living abroad for too long, the place where he feels wild and strong the most. Cause he seems mostly happy in the video. Still your way of seeing this video is reasonable too.
@WakandaForevar So far the blaze are my favorite artists atm, probs to these French guys for this music and this video per se. Their videos always have some link to Algeria. They've made alot of videos where you can clearly see an Algerian symbol, motto or even a famous Algerian man's name written somewhere. In this video, you can't even see the slightest of a hint about which country is this. We only depend on the comments to know. I think it's made in a way that we as viewers are not expected to view it in a particular way. We'll see it from our perspective, and our outcome from our past experiences if we had lived abroad for exemple or our imaginations from what could have happend if we happen to immigrate. When I see myself in the place of that actor, I feel like my previous comment. (I live far away from home btw). And I think Sys Dz is just curious man or maybe a fan 😅
I know this feeling so well and it makes me cry! I was adopted to Sweden from Sri Lanka. I moved back and found my family, and im so different from everybody. The scen when he playing with the kids, is so spot on! The kids never judge me they just play, and when he hits his chest and scream out all his feeling its just amazing! I been there, screaming my anger, happiness, confusion out to the universe! Only time i feel free is in the ocean on a surfboard, or on the dance floor! All my respect to The Blaze that have capture all this feelings in a amazing tune and video! Bless you Guys!

I'm a Swiss guy living in Switzerland. I can't relate the slightest to the story portrayed in this video, and yet it touches me like few other videos have. The vibe, the message, the track, it's so pure and honest, when I'm in the right mood, this song makes me nostalgic for something I haven't even experienced. This is art.
I am an Albanian living in Italy and as an immigrant I can tell you this song hits pretty hard, brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it, I don't know how but they managed to describe exactly the feeling of going back home, all is on point, the music, the video, just... wow👌🧐
the same experience I had when I was a refugee and then managed to see my family after 6 years .... this video is very deep and whoever made this you're amazing
I think it touches all of us who've ever left our homes, I'm an Egyptian born Canadian and I miss the Sun and the smell of the Mediterranean. I've adapted in almost every way and love Canada and my Canadian family but my body still craves that desert heat, and the warmth of the people I was born to, this song and video gives my heart some of that warmth
This is the kind of art that deserves awards and international recognition. Lead actor, script, cinematography, music, art. Everything. This is amazing.
This video won the film craft grand prix in Cannes, France. And the lead actor is going to be in the next James bond movie thnaks to his performance in this video!
I am from Tunisia that looks exactly like Algeria, I live thousands of miles away from my family, every time I miss mom, I watch this video, dreaming of coming back soon and hugging her..

"When we went to shoot the part where [actor] Dali Benssalah hugs his mother, the mother hadn’t seen her boy for ten years. When we did the scene, she was really crying, because her story was the same. It’s what happened to her". The Blaze
0:27 - 1:02 : People should stop trying to be pretty when they act emotions. Emotions like that are rarely nice to see. People are not pretty when they cry. And this is what make it beautiful. This actor got it. Everyone understand the feeling of this man. This is pure talent.
or at 5:20 so true. its perfect and hits so fkin deep... with the right sounds in my ears i can switch into a super sad and introvert mode and it wouldnt take 10 secs to start crying and pull painful faces... guess everyone who s a lil insane and was deeply hurt and dissapointed, can easily jump into that feel my favorit is the end, when u see how extremely happy he is, pure joy in his face, bites his hand, swings his arms up in the sky... 5:20 thats so pure. so fkin relatable, dancing with your friends, everyone smiling, i always start crying cus i miss all those times back then, many years ago.. with a lot of friends, hope and love left. feels like it wont every come back like then.
This is the story of a man who rediscover its territory and find a part of himself that he thought lost for ever. The gorilla at the end is the symbol of this primary feeling, in its territory he feels free.
As an Algerian I left my country since 2013 till now I didn’t get back and still this images in my mind I know how it feels when you come back home thanks for this memory images I’ll be back one day
This is just plain and simple unadulterated raw emotion. A bitter sweet moment, after such a long absent tenure, the one missing finally comes home. For those who never do, this is a homage of what it could have been. For my brother that left... May we see you home soon.
a FUCKING EXTREM MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS is how I am feeling. The video is truly a masterpiece. The emotions that the actor displays are so genuine and really close to what I am living; sadness, joy, pain and rage at the same time. I can't remember when or if I ever saw a song/video that touched me that much in a way that it's even a shock. He is unbelievably good and accurate, now I just want to watch more of his work. This is pure art, which gives emotions and brings back so many memories. I never heard this song before today and now I can't get enough.
What u r seeing is how people here suffer in Algeria They go to Europe searching for work for life and then after years they go back to see their families
the crazy thing is, this is not how i am feeling, its like borrowing a feeling from something very very close to someones life. But it is told so well, that i feel i understand what people must feel in a situation like this.
FOR ME.... THIS SONG AND VIDEO.... I´m from Mexico and I´ve been ilistening to your music for long time, but I´ve had a few problems back in my coutnry, this song is from when I came back to the nest after a long time....................... So I decided to buy a plane tkt to middle eastern and I had no idea, I HAD NO IDEA, this would really represent what I went through, even being on vcay on the other side of the planet, I sent this video song to my ppl while being in Egypt, Istanbul, and this region..... I really cried when I came back to Mexico..... Love is just LOVE
it was an honor for me to participate in this clip, so many emotions that we really cried, we spent moments both strong and moving, beautiful music with love
I always wonder how people come to be comfortable enough to cry and live moments like that when there is cameras and spotlight and everything around you, how did you film that scene, was there music or something special to feel good?
@@user-xd7zx8nc6c I will answer it as an actress in theater and tv series, if you know the background story of a scene you have to dwell in it, call emotions in by different means. Cameras are not a problem at all when you are living in the moment of scene you dont notice them anymore
I cried my guts out while watching The Blaze performing Territory in Lisbon this summer. Coming from a culture of deeply rooted family values but living away from the country I was born in, I relate to this video so much.
Ben de uzağım siyasi suçlu olarak uzaklaştırıldım şuan Cezayirdeyim bu videonun çekildiği çok katlı banliyölerden birinde kiracıyım. Her şeye rağmen hayat devam ediyor

Everything about this is incredible , every single beat ,percussion , sound . The clip is so powerful, telling the story of an immigrant , and how life changed him . When he came back home , he's free , he's like an animal , screaming , running naked , dancing , the song represents this perfectly . Man this is fucking incredible, the blaze is changing my life
@@Ismailao12 hes actually an immigrant who is a boxer in france that is coming back to algeria after something like 10 years away from his family and like all third culture kids find that the relentless march of time has dissolved any place he had with his family and friends, and that his growing up in a foriegn culture has left him with an 'alien-ness' which means he is never accepted (eg. when they are all praying and he is just sitting on his own - no belonging to the common identity anymore) by his family, and is left at the end pretty much only accepted by the children/innocent of the next generation. He clasps at the idealistic experiences to relive the days he feels passed him by when he was in growing up in a foriegn culture. thats what I got from it anyway :)
As a georgian who left his country for 4 years and didn’t see his family for 2,3 years, this video made me cry like a baby… when i left home i was 22 years old and this pain hits me hard in every single day.
In my opinion the strongest music clip I've ever seen. So authentic and so artistic in one moment. Every second feel with this strong, overloaded, lost, heated and uncontrollable energy.
@@anastasiiaann2187 only my opinion: His heart is with his family, in a depth of closeness that you don't find in Western society. Nevertheless, he wants to emancipate himself from his roots, but to say no to something does not mean that you know what to say yes to. He tries to define himself through his strength and the physical male energy is unbelievably present. But where this concentrated energy should flow sensibly, he doesn't know, so he looks for moments in which he can dissolve and forget everything. In all his strength he seems incredibly lost to me.
Everyone talks about the mother son moment, but to me the first moment when his brother hugged him first is the one that shake me the most, cheers to my brother may he comes back home safely
How absolureley beautiful.. I felt this whole song in my bones and heart soul.. beautiful music video.. a story a home a family actual love for one anpther in a way I envy you for such a close loving family, but no envy with haters, envy with my own wanting and wishing for something that will never happen. acceptance. territory.
The moment when he embraces his mother from behind while she looks on with solemn disapproval gets me. He knows she’s not affirming his behavior and it cuts his conscience. Yet he still loves her, because there’s nobody like his mom.
Whenever I watch this It reminds me of my stay in abroad. When you live far away from your home you missed every detail about it but when you come back It feels not the same. There is always yearning for some place that doesn't exist. I am not completely at home anywhere. Thanks for beautifull music and director I salute you
i've always felt this way, ever since i can remember. i can't really describe it, wanderlust is too soft and romantic of a word and doesn't come close. maybe it's a feeling of displacement? idk, never felt i belonged anywhere but would feel homesick for a place i don't even know
Love this song so much. Never get tired of it. . Hope to see Algeria soon. I love North Africa. I already have been to Egypt , Tunisia and Morocco .❤️❤️❤️
damn this song makes me so lonely. I miss my friends, driving till the sun rises, smoking cigarettes, drinking or doing all the crazy shit during long summer nights. now everything seems lost, we are divided by countries and oceans, everyone moved on, just I am the one who are stuck in the past.

Wow, seriously, everything about this video is amazing! The acting, the story, the memories, the music, the beats, and the acting again - all just awesome. From the very beginning, I felt a connection, seeing myself in the clip from minute 0. It reminded me of how I used to live in Morocco, doing the same things - doing push-ups at home, striking the monkey posture, running with friends, just being myself. Now, watching this, I'm filled with gratitude. Thank you from the USA, where I left everything behind to start a new life. God bless you, Blaze! I truly congratulate you for creating this piece of art.
Really good clip, and, happy to see that you see a connection, as, I can't, but ,I was asking myself if people will. Really amazing combo, clip and music
Thankyou The Blaze and the whole team for this putting this together man, amazing track and visuals. Well depicted. As a prodigal son and a first born whose been through it, I deeply identify. It's a weird feeling, wanting to go back home but there's no home to go back to, a child without a parent, a citizen without a country, a traveler that lost his destination.
Thanks for sharing this

I wish I didn't look back.

just a freaking good director for sure. that needs a damn good combo of imagination/knowing what you want to show and a lot of skill in advising ur cast and finding the perfect people for that cast. Great teamwork for sure there.

defamiliarization technique!
Asli Ceren Bozatli What do you mean by 'defamiliarization technique'?
un mot : wow ! Je viens de découvrir niveau artistique c'est incroyable - j'ai pris une grosse de claque dans ma gueule !
(this is my interpretation of it tho.)
edit: after a while, and through the replies, i realised that everyone can make their own interpretation depending on their emotional situation when watching... it hits different people differently, that's true art...evokes emotions. (some hate, some relate, some miss their home/family/territory, some feel proud, some feel threatened.. etc. thanks for all the replies)
bilal brzm je pense que c’est la meilleure interprétation que j’ai pu lire bravo kho
I see it as someone (harrag that finally gets legal papers) visiting home after living abroad for too long, the place where he feels wild and strong the most. Cause he seems mostly happy in the video. Still your way of seeing this video is reasonable too.
WakandaForevar where are you from ?

Whenever I watch this It reminds me of my stay in abroad. When you live far away from your home you missed every detail about it but when you come back It feels not the same. There is always yearning for some place that doesn't exist. I am not completely at home anywhere.
Thanks for beautifull music and director I salute you
I can relate to this... I miss my time abroad
It's you that have changed. You've expanded your mind and outgrown your culture.
i've always felt this way, ever since i can remember. i can't really describe it, wanderlust is too soft and romantic of a word and doesn't come close. maybe it's a feeling of displacement? idk, never felt i belonged anywhere but would feel homesick for a place i don't even know
Hannah R.J.A. Song Saudade
i always associated that word to be of a more romantic vein but it makes sense to apply it here
Algiers has a special vibe to it.And Algiers' rooftops and Casbah are places where magic happen, just like in this video.

Respect from Morocco. I wish i could visit Algiers someday.

Tunisia and Morocco more special than Algiers.
0:32 - 1:03 has such an incredible representation of emotion that I have not seen in any movie since probably the last 15 years.
Amigos you not the only one!
Best song to refresh old memories ,it really take's deep.

Lyrics:
We've waited for this day
We shed some tears of love now
Like a desert in the rain
When sons of the dead are waking up mmm yeah.
There's nobody like my mom
There's no place like my home since I was born
When I was young
The flavour is so strong, I've missed it so long now.
These people are my heroes
From the earth to the sky
Tellin' me hope you fly in clouds
It ever gets me high like a cool blend smoke
I'm shining like the moon
I'm feeling like a boom on the bright side
I remember when I was young
The flavour is so strong
I've missed it so long yeah.
(I THINK! FROM WHAT I COULD HEAR AT LEAST.)
Roxanne Sbitti lyrics❤
Roxanne Sbitti sounds right to me, thanks
I think the 14th line should be "i'm feeling like a bloom in the bright sun", otherwise everything else seems perfect :)

I love this song! I watch it when I need a boost in life or in the gym.
Happy for you friend. Excellent tune, amazing story, good luck to you.
This shit makes me want to cry.
Algerian marrocan tunisian why all grow up in the same way
When you mix melancholy and rage in a masterpiece
i dont see any melancholy here. Only full confidence.
Exactly
Vive nos frères Algériens ! BIG UP DU MAROC
pas frère, meme peuple. Séparé par la politique.
Thankyou The Blaze and the whole team for this putting this together man, amazing track and visuals.
Well depicted. As a prodigal son and a first born whose been through it, I deeply identify. Being welcomed back with open arms, that was something I truly thought impossible. Every time I think of this track I get emotional man. I am grateful for my sister for showing this to me, years later and it still humbles me. 'TERRITORY' man! Wow!
Troublant ! Déroutant ! Captivant ! On scrute chaque détail pour ne pas en rater une miette, on ne détache pas une seconde nos yeux... On se demande pourquoi et puis ça a l'air évident. Bravo. Ça sens la réussite ♡

The algorithm tripped me into this. I had never heard of this group before and realizing now how legit! The art direction of this video is eye-popping and amazing. I'm going to step back through their catalog and see what I missed❤
