Russian Easter Festival Overture, Op.36
Orchestre Lamoureux. Igor Markevitch, conductor.
Recorded at the Salle Pleyel, Paris, november 1957
Simply glorious interpretation and orchestral playing!
This performance has teeth! BRAVO!!!
I prefer the slow opening. It conveys the mournfulness of Good Friday leading to the upbeat melody of Easter Sunday.
The best performance ever! Rsrsrsrs.
Very angry! :-)
Massive as Russian music of this time was; in the beginning a bit too slow for my Feeling; but overall a real masterpiece of Interpretation !
Silly me. I have always thought of this as much more pagan. The coming of spring from the dead of winter, the sprouts of green, the lush of the verdant landscape, life coming. Of course the pagan rites were incorporated into the new religion.
