  • Garfield: Caught in the Act is an often-overlooked game for the Sega Genesis. Although short in length, it's an enjoyable game that follows Garfield on an adventure through TV land. What most don't know, however, is that the game was meant to be much longer. What happened to these "Lost Levels" as they are called? The answer is simpler than you might think.
    Special thanks to Jack Bosley for contributing his copy of Garfield: Caught in the Act for this video.

    I owned Sega Channel from 1995-1998. Garfield The Lost Levels was a fave and it was indeed the title on the screen. The Viking level you faught a Opera Viking that caused avalance balls, the Alien level had alot of bubble jumping, and the Catsablonca train was fun. Before each level the game had a screen about the level and why it was cut. The Viking snow level was cut because the team felt it didn't quite capture that "sonic 3 ice cap" look it said. If I ever uncover my VHSs of Sega Channel, they may have footage.

    "The lost levels" wasnt made up by fans. It was the actual official title of the three level game that was released on Sega Channel. I remember it being called the lost levels on the official game list. So fans didnt just make up that name.

    What?, no. There were demo levels that were just called the lost levels because they weren't part of the actual game and they wern't even finished. The snow level was nice, I barely remember the second, and the other one the entire map wasn't even drawn, it just kinda ends. Everything in the actual full game is just way better. Playing the beta levels actually made me think it wasn't worth trying and I kinda just ignored the game entirely afterward.

    They should have done the lock on thing like sonic 3 and knuckles, Anyway given M2's behavior lately finishing old games, maybe there still may be a chance that a "director's cut" could happen, I mean I can't see Jim Davis saying no to something that would pay him royalties. Maybe with a Sega Mini Mach 3 featuring some of the 32 x games.

    Man, the cut part of Casablanca where you ride the train is hard.
    Really hard. Neither me or any of my foster brothers could beat it, and it was pretty morbid considering you constantly get hit by a train and die. 🙄

    If the ever do a remaster of this game it will be entitled; "Garfield & Odie; Adventures in PC Land". All the levels, including the 3 that were mentioned, Odie being playable as well with his own set of moves. A completely different storyline; which involves a cartoon version of Jim Davis being kidnapped by Glitch and it's up to Garfield and Odie to him. The original genesis/PC version of this game. Oh the possibilities!

    I actually use to really like this game.
    Granted, I was seven or eight when it came out, so anything would've impressed me back then, but still a fun and decent game to check out if you've dismissed it.

    An even weirder question is wether or not the Slobbin' Hood level actually made it to the Genesis version in any way, plus we *do* know the Rome level got scrapped at the planning stages however

    • @RampagingRex
      @RampagingRex  3 роки тому +3

      The only one of the lost levels we actually have Genesis footage of is Bonehead the Barbarian, so the existence of Slobbin' Hood on Genesis is solely backed up by personal recollection of those who played it on Sega Channel.

    • @turrican3839
      @turrican3839 3 роки тому +1

      @@RampagingRex Thats bizzare as most people only appear to mention Alien Landscape, Bonehead *and* the train section of Catsablanca, furthermore there's actual high resolution screenshots taken from beta and preview builds in gaming magazines of the 3-said levels, there's no mention of Slobbin' Hood or really any concreate proof of it once being on a beta version, being cut or was in the Lost Levels, its possible it was simply a game gear exclusive from the get-go.

    How big are the ROMs anyway? I'd imagine that file size would dictate whether it is practical to lock on the cartridges.

    • @AllardRT
      @AllardRT 3 роки тому +3

      The Garfield ROM isn't even THAT big, it's only 2 MB, while the absolute maximum back in the day was 4 MB (and then Capcom somehow managed to make a 5 MB cart with Super SF 2, but that had some special black magic to it). They could've easily crammed those levels in there, so it's likely that the time constraints were at fault here.
