This is the greatest channel ever. If you love bass fishing then this is the channel to watch. Tips and tricks to become a better bass fisherman and so much more.
This made my Wednesday morning, I'm so glad you guys are back to these 20+ min long in depth videos. I understand not everything takes that long to talk about but I absolutely love these! One of my local lakes just opened up this week, I was able to get out after work yesterday and catch a couple on a blade bait. Cait wait for spring
Everybody is in such a rush today, nobody watches the previews on a DVD anymore, everybody just skips to the first scene. Everybody wants fast info, can't watch a video that's 20 minutes long. Myself I like the longer videos because it goes in depth not just a broad stroke over the category in 2 minutes. I pick up alot of stuff from the in between talk. Probably more so then the actual good stuff. They are constantly coming up with new ways and changing there game.
Man your vids are the most informative I've ever come across. Even the beginner fisherman will look like a pro if they follow your steps. So thank you for being you.
@Stoney Lonsome Thank you for the tips sir. They'll definitely be utilized. I've avoided crankbaits for a while now because I know I'm going to lose a lot of money hanging them up on the bottom. But it is what it is.
Thanks for the video Tim. Now I have to go get my crank bait box and separate them by noise, or no noise, instead of color. Much more important, based on water clarity as you stated. Excellent info for all to hear.
Took your advice on red baits in spring yesterday. Had an awesome day throwing a red cordell spot burning over grass. Thanks for the awesome vids and keep it up. You guys are by far my favorite youtube channel.
You and Matt both have taught me so much much about baits and fishing over the last few years! So I'm gonna give yall a recommendation to try in the square bill world. I live on Guntersville and I have done really really well on the Berkley pitbull squarebill. It's nothing special like 6th sense when it comes to colors but the action is different than most squarebills. AND IT GETS BIT! Love the channel guys! Keep it up and thank yall!
It be awesome to see some seminars on pond fishing for spring time. I don't how many guys out there are pond fisherman like my self but in the pond I go to there are some monster largemouth and pickerel. I hooked on to one last summer and it had to be at least 12lb but unfortunately it shook the hook about 3ft from the bank. I've been trying to get that bass ever since.
Tim, just thought I would throw something out there. I crank like denny Brauer flips (meaning you have to pry the cranking rod out of my hand). All my rods are glass. I use the St. Croix legend glass rods. To your point about fishing isolated grass patches etc., two rods were recently added to the legend glass lineup, a 6'10" MH and a 7'2" H. I found the 7'2" to be a very niche rod serving the exact scenario you covered. Yes it is still glass and very parabolic, but because it is a short rod with a heavy build, it really allows you to have that more precise control over the crank.... now spool it up with braid to leader and you get even more control... on top of that, the short rod gives you that pinpoint accuracy on casts for hitting those small isolated targets.... all the while giving you the control and forgiveness of glass once the fish is pinned. Just thought I would throw that out there.... there is no wrong way to fish as long as the bass ends up in the livewell... Last thing, I would like to piggy back on Justin Shedaker's comment.... you guys do an unreal job of relaying in depth info without sounding like a brand specific billboard. Great stuff, keep it coming.
Hey Timbo-I was actually upgrading hooks on some new hardbaits while watching this vid.Being an unsponsored "shorebound" angler,I go with the Fletcher Shryock 2x ewg trebles by eagle claw. However I did save up n get the Ike Delay 6'6"rod paired up with the Revo x-w(5:4.1)for my squarebill set up.I'm experimenting with braid to mono leader, but it takes some getting used to.The LC 1.5 was my most productive lure last year. The BX Brat is a gr8 bait,too...
after starting 0-6 this year up here in MA I finally got after them yesterday! got a 4lber, 2 2lbers , lost a 5+ and had like 8 or 9 bites all on the hud weedless shad. its was the only bait the was coming through this think hydrilla and never once getting hung up. I was just watching my bait swim at the end of a retrieve and a 5+ came up through the hyrdilla and unloaded on my hud 2 feet from the boat. almost fell out of the boat lol.
I have been watching your and Matt's videos scence last year. I fish all my life and the last few years I started casting crankbaits. I might use one for awhile and give up on crankbaits and use something else. I never had any good luck on crankbaits in river currents. I live in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. Fredericton has two rivers, one is the Saint John river flow through the city and the Nashwaak river flows into the Saint John river inside the city limits.
I WHISH you guys would fish the lake of the ozarks, cause I would love to know if your coaching experience is accurate for that lake. I really appreciate the time that you guys take to inform and teach us about many ways of using lures etc.... the lake of the ozarks is a very different beast of a lake.
I caught at least 20+ smallies out of a spillway in a local river this last fall on the little jon. Temps dropped, river flooded, and they were stacked up in that incoming water, every cast they were inhaling it. That was the day I realized squarebills were essential to the tackle box
Where do I find the link where you guys say I’ll show colors and lures down below? I can seem to find what your speaking of and you give a lot of information to try to remember..Thanks for the great videos!!
Great vid Tim! If you and Matt could include what water temps work best when you guys do your in depth vids like this that would be great! Just trying to dial in when would be too early vs when would be too late. Thanks and keep up the great work!!!
Very informative video. This season I am putting in more time into crankbaits, particularly squarebills. One question though: what is your thoughts on snaps, like the VMC Crankbait Snap? I always tie direct to my lures, however I came across others who suggest, for crankbaits, using snaps instead of the split rings. Particularly for changing baits more quickly and easily. Right now I only have one dedicated rod setup for crankbaits, 7' MH/Fast composite rod w/5.6:1 ratio reel, 12lb mono (only cause that's all I had at the time, will be switching flouro). I'm certain, just like the rest of my rod and reel arsenal, I will end up with other combinations as I hone my skillset. What's your opinions? Thank you for the time and effort you put into the information you put out. Much appreciated.
Try out a red triple grip on the front and a round bend on the back on crankbaits. My hookup ratio went way up since I started this and you dont need to switch out hooks all the time. Best of both worlds. Usually if they slap at it they get the back hook anyways
We fish all over the country and south of the border. These are recommendations from our experiences. Obviously fisheries are different but the concepts still apply.
I love fishing crank baits and have caught a ton of big fish on them. I am not sponsored by any company and let's be honest some baits are expensive. I am trying to learn to deflect them off of stuff like wood cover and docks. Last year I probably lost about a dozen baits. Just from getting hung up. Do you have any tips?
I'd like to hear your thoughts on swapping out treble hooks for single in line hooks like the saltwater guys. I mainly sport fish, catch and release. I want to do as little damage as possible. I haven't had an issue the last few years, but would like to hear another opinion. Seems like the guys that switch out treble hooks, still don't do it on topwater baits. Which baits would you swap, and to which hooks and rings?
When fishing squarebills do you guys just cruise down the bank and cast shallow??? Or do you find a spot that's shallow and park the boat and fish??? Crankbait shallow or deep have always been a tough bait for me to wrap my brain around. I have tons of deep cranks and squarebills but they don't get used often.
I love squarebills~ but struggling to figure out how to control the depth of it...when it says a bait dives 2'-5' is that purely based on speed of retrieve? Ie slow retrieve will keep it at 2' while burning it will dive it to 5'?
Is brand truly a factor when it comes to your “run of the mill” 1.5 or 2.5 squarebills? For instance, does a Lucky Strike RC2 run any different than a Lucky Craft 1.5 or a 6th Sense Crush 50?
That's a ridiculous question! Of course LMB's can tell the difference between Strike King, Lucky Craft, Cotton Cordell, etc. They prefer 6th Sense over Repala though.
Great vid and tips. Love to throw crank baits shallow over most any other lure. Maybe not exactly on point but i never see vids pro or other showing the broken back jointed baits like a broken back minnow. I even have a few that suspend. Just never hear any comments, tips on these?
Tim, The 845cbr is med heavy . What would be the difference in a 843cbr? Do you use the 845 because you are throwing bigger cranks? Others recommend a medium power . Please give your opinion on this.
Now Maybe I missed it but I have “ seen/ studied “ most of your square bill/ crank bait/lipless videos and have not seen how you guys recommend how to connect the line to lure? I use a snap but see that some tie directly to split ring. But I fear the end of the wire in the ring will weaken the line and fail. Do you guys upgrade to the oval rings and tie to that and what knot do you use . Thanks Don
TIM & MATT. Question I always wanted to ask. What do you guys have against Okuma gear such as rods. I never hear you talk about them. Or reel companies not on TW such as Piscifun? Are we ever going to see reviews for these options?
Honest answer....nothing. I caught my PB largemouth on an Okuma Guide select swimbait rod several years ago. We just took some of their travel rods to South America. We own Okuma rods.
I asked in another video, but I haven't got an answer yet. IFish Lake Chickamauga and because of the rain the water level on the lake side of the dam is still low. I'm fishing from the bank, I'm not sure when they're bringing the water up, but am I going to miss the spawn?
I like Gill patterns/colors and Ghost Minnow. Non of my waters have Shad either, but there are tons of minnows, baby bass, Crappie, and Gills. I think the Ghost Gill is a great all purpose for clear(er) waters with Gills.
Awesome you guys know so much about fishing, but can you get a little more into the techniques and less about all the different lures we need to run out and buy? I’m gonna be remortgaging my house at this rate to catch a couple spring bass. I’ve been riding a bicycle since October because I wanted to catch a few winter bass so the car had to go🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It better have rock chips, hook rash and bite marks on it after a few hours. I got 3 or 4 in my box I always grab and they barely got any paint on em. I got new ones beside it same color and everything but I reach for the ones most beat up for some reason 😁

@@tacticalbassin Thanks Tim. My question was did Aftco do this for you or a local print shop? I am a long time subscriber I know all your stuff is linked in the description. Thanks again. Enjoy the channel.
I don't think it should be rattling and silent I think it should be loud and not so loud because even a silent crankbait makes a lot of noise with the hooks and split Rings rattling around and bouncing off the body of the bait
Do you guys ever use snaps to connect your crankbaits? I like using them so I can swap out baits quickly. Just curious on what your opinion is on this versus tying direct to the O rings.
So I’m just speaking from what they’ve said in other videos (not sure if their opinions have changed) but they don’t do it for 2 reasons. 1, they are fishing for monsters out there in Cali and they are afraid the snap will fail (design isn’t as robust as a simple O-ring). 2, they think it can change the action slightly depending on the lure.
@@mattseifert Thanks for the reply. I've found mixed reviews when I research this. Some people say it actually improves the action of many baits by allowing them to move more freely. As far as the snap failing I don't think that's an issue as the smallest snap is rated for 20 lbs. I've snagged a few times that I could not get loose and had to pull until the line broke, the snap did not fail. I still use snaps for all crankbaits and jerkbaits but was curious on what their opinion is.
