- Tram traffic in Riga, Latvia. 07-08.04.2018
For rolling stock Riga uses 3 types of trams. The most common and oldest one is Tatra T3A, then there´s some Tatra Т3MR´s, and the newest trams are Škoda 15T.
From November 2018 line #1 use Škoda 15T trams.

Older trams in Riga use poles because of old line crossings with trolleybus lines. Crossings in lines used by Škoda 15T with pantographs, are already replaced to pantograph compatible ones.

Very well-filmed "portrait" of this city - cleverly edited. Colourful, sunny scenes, not crowded or spoiled by other road traffic. Nicely maintained cars operating on almost perfect track. Impressive architecture. No litter and not much graffitti. Simple, unobtrusive and adequate overhead wire construction - especially compared with the over-engineering seen in many US cities. Altogether a delight to watch. Citizens can be proud of this city and its trams. Thanks for taking the trouble to post this.

I live in Imanta,and i miss our Tatras in our tram line 1.Even last time when i was on tatra tram model was in 2019 last time.When i see tatra T3 or T6,i wanna to be on the route,Nice video,Greetings from Latvia!

Nelle reti di molti Paesi anglosassoni, USA compresi, ci sono ancora molte linee con asta e rotella di captazione. Questa addirittura mi sembra un'asta con strisciante come per i filobus.

У нас в Екатеринбурге основа трамвайного парка-старые чешские вагоны.Очень надежные и теплые,раньше делали на века.Единственная глобальная проблема для мамочек с колясками и для инвалидов,забираться высоко и не совсем удобно.

Why Riga trams use poles instead of pantographs? There is any explanation?
les69op I also asked this question to myself. In Moscow old tatras and new trams have only pantographs.
Used to grow up in Riga but will never get used to pantographs as i prefer poles ;)

I am from Riga. There is no 100% official explanation, but my version is that poles are exactly the same as the ones on trolleybuses in Riga. Maybe it is cheaper to maintain and buy in bulk for both.
I´m actually surprised that they withdrawn half of the T6 for the new Skoda trams, but the most T3 remain in service.
I guess the quality of the T6 series is not so good. Even in Prague they already sold some T6 to Sofia.
Prague is selling T6 because of tram stops. They want to have them for low floor trams. But T6 has doors that opens out and colide with stop.
Riga T3s were heavily modernized during the late 90s. They were in better condition than most of the T6s when the new Škoda 15t arrived.

These single mast pantographs are sexy. And rare. Never seen them in action.
And it’s more rare and unnatural to see them on T3 or T6 trams. Riga and Daugavpils are the only city wnich use them on these trams. Even from the factory T3 had pantograph.

Only the center is normal and the rest is not there.
