  • Doug Cutting originally wrote Lucene in 1997-98. While suitable for any application which requires full text indexing and searching capability, Lucene has been widely recognized for its utility in the implementation of Internet search engines and local, single-site searching. In this talk, Doug will share background on the impetus and creation of Lucene, the evolution of the project and its recent integration with Apache Hadoop, and explain what the core technology has enabled today. Doug will also share his thoughts on what the future holds for Lucene and SOLR.

Only 51K views? Definitely a "hidden" gem for anyone (like me) working in search! Thanks for sharing the talk! Wish I'd be sitting there in the audience some day.

Very cool. Thanks to Doug and the group for sharing this talk. We're at a point of either upgrading our Lucene or migrating. This talk is very informative.

Bit of a misleading title, sounds a bit more like a cloudera sales talk in the end. Was hoping for some more in depth information about modern Lucene from Doug. In any case, thanks for sharing.

If there is today's talk? Cloudera obviously dead in 2019, but lucene not

Well done writing Lucene, but he should really improve his presentation skills. Hum, hum, aaah, hum...

It's like he uses "hum, aah, ..." as punctuation marks [uhm], specially for commas[aah].
