In today’s video, I'm discussing how to find a job in South Korea - specifically, a non-teaching job! This video is an updated version of one of my MOST popular videos I released a few years back. In this updated version (it'll be in two parts by the way) I cover Korean employment visas and eligibility, ideal companies and their qualifications, and finally, the best places to job hunt for non-teaching jobs in South Korea online!

In the past a marriage visa did not allow for that particular spouse to work, only reside in Korea. Has that changed? I noticed you said they could work so I was hoping for some clarification.

I wanted to ask your opinion on translators and interpreters in Korea. Some people say that it is not the best choise as it is difficult to find a job. Moreover, Koreans prefer to work with native Koreans.. What do you think about it?

This is a great question. :) I'm leaning in the direction of the opinion the other people had. Translation or interpretation is a very specific skill set and because there is a significant amount of cultural nuance in the way Koreans communicate in Korean I can imagine the preference would be to have the interpreter's native language be korean and the target language to be the foreign one. But - hey - that's just one girls opinion. I think you never know until you try. So if you're ready you might as well start putting some feelers out and getting in touch with people in the industry to see what can happen.

Im in a bit of a dilemma right now 😅. I recently finished a 5 year high school (its a high school where you graduate with a certain occupation/profession in addition to a normal high school degree) and Im doing military service in my country right now. What next step would you recommend going forward for getting into the „Korean world“ 😂. I feel like trying to search for a job with my poor level of Korean and having no university degree wouldn’t get me really far here. Should I still try to find jobs or try to get into a Korean university or maybe attend a Korean language class or go for a H1 visa and get work experience with part time job that way?

Great questions! Going to a Korean University will definitely give you a leg up. It'll make it easier to qualify for all sorts of visas and it tends to give a few extra points. You could try the H1 as well but it'll be difficult to transfer onto a sponsored work visa afterwards without a Bachelor's. Hope this helps!
hello, camille! thank you for this very informative video! can i ask a few questions? from your experience, what fields are the most open to foreigners in south korea? i'm a video editor and want to work in korea but i'm not sure if there are opportunities for foreign video editors or graphic designers there. also, the field of your work has to match your degree, right? i plan on getting masters (in my country, and then phd in korea) but there is no video editing major in my country, do you think film production or media communications could be the right match?
Hey! I think communications, marketing, and media (aka video editing) are some of the fields most receptive to foreigners as there are many Korean companies looking to expand their brands presence globally. And yes, you are right, your degree and any work experience you have must exactly match the job you are applying for. To work in video editing you would likely need a BFA. You may even needs to submit a transcript to show you took editing courses (I had to do this for marketing/communications because I have a fashion degree). I think the other degrees could work but unfortunately it's mostly up to the discretion of the immigration officer you get - so it is kind of a gamble.

@camilleblais thank you so much for your information, I am very interested in moving and working in south korea. I am currently from the US and my original plan was to get a TEFL certificate to teach english in South Korea. However, through research I have found out it is not possible with out a bachelors degree. Do you know any information and can provide any advice for me about this? I am now leaning more toward the Holiday Work Visa or possibly going to language school in korea although from what I have learned you can not work for the first 6 months on student visa for language school. So once again the holiday work visa might be a better option for me. Please let me know whatever you can to help! Thanks

Unfortunately, in order to qualify to teach English, you need to be eligible for an E2 visa. The E2 visa requires a bachelor's degree. If you're interested in working here, I would definitely recommend the working holiday visa. There are a couple of limitations on the student visa when it comes to work, so the H1 working holiday visa is more flexible. ☺️

Thank you! I think it is really loosely defined. As far as I understand most office work would qualify.
Heyy I had one question I saw your last video which was I guess one year ago one…actually I was applying for jobs in peoplenjob website where it’s mentioned that ”foreigners” only…but in Saramin website…I was unable to understand any…so how to find out over there that they need only foreigners for that mentioned job?
Great question! I encourage you to apply for jobs on any site even if they don’t specify they are looking for foreigners. If the job posting is written in a language other than Korean, that’s a good indicator that they’re looking for foreigners. Sometimes, they’ll even mention “visa sponsorship available” in the job posting as well - so keep an eye out for that too! I hope this answers your question. 🙌🏻

@@Noobita2404 They're usually pretty fast! If you don't hear back with in 2-3 days, I'd recommend following up to ensure your application as received. :)

I have read that you need to have the visa before you can apply for the job. But if the visa requires sponsorship from a job, how is that possible? Thanks!
In the case of an E7, the employer needs to apply for the visa together with you. The reason why some jobs will say that you need an valid working visa to apply is because they don't want to risk a new immigrant not being approved for a visa and would rather take someone who's already proven they are qualified. Alternatively, they may say you already need a valid work visa (meaning something like an F-class visa) because they are not eligible to sponsor work visas directly. I hope this helps!

Hi Camille, my boyfriend with an E2 visa will be starting a new job in South Korea, Jeju island…please what visa do you think I can apply for as I plan to live there with him?
I'd look into an H1 if you're eligible! Or, maybe a D10.
Can you please explain how to find an office job as a new graduate foreign student living outside of Korea
It will be a little more difficult as a new graduate as most work sponsored visa require some sort of work experience. I’d first check if you qualify for the D10 or H1 visa as they would allow you to work in Korea on an “internship” or part-time basis. The new 2023 remote work and k-culture visas could also be an option. There isn’t too much information available on them at the moment but I’d recommend keeping an eye out. 🙌🏻

I thought the D-2 visa that allows a person to be eligible for an F-5 visa after 3 years of residing in Korea...is it now 5 years to obtain that visa or am I mixing things up😢😢😢😭
This is a great question! I just mentioned the simplest (yet maybe longest lol) F5 eligibility track. There are several different types of F5 that can be acquired in a variety of ways. Below is a good resource, but I would also recommend reaching out to your embassy. ☺️

@@CamilleBlais Thank you 😊 I almost got scared out of my wits for a sec there. So the thing was I had come from the knowledge of getting an F2 visa from a D2 which is after 3 years of residency - then with an F2, it it possible to upgrade to an F5 visa. Thank you so much! Much love ~

There are several ways to qualify for an E7 and I believe in this case you would also need 5 years of relevant work experience. I recommend reaching out to your local Korean Embassy or Consulate for the most detailed and accurate info!
Hello. Don't they ask you to submit korean resume as well. Like if I am a foreigner with a fairly doable korean, if I make a korean resume with help from korean friends, won't the companies still think I am not that korean to speak this much good korean in written in resumes! Won't that be a doubt in their heads. So what should one be doing.

Great question! I always recommend that if you're not confident enough to write a Korean resume on your own then you shouldn't. As you mentioned, the recruiter will be able to tell. There are posting that don't require a Korean resume, so I would prioritize applying to those! I hope this helps.💗
