Bass pro ruined Cabela’s... hunting department is trash now, fishing department ehh...
agree 100%
Well cabelas screwed up and sold out to Bass pro.
@@pareloader5989 agree
🤣😂🤣
It was bad before they bought it
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your brutal honest on those products. I actually put together a good short list of things I really need, not what all the big name big dollar manufacturers market for the average hunter. 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Cabelas had so much more inventory before they merged with bass pro however I still find myself going.
The BassPro corporate culture killed what was already dying. So many of the old KNOWLEDGEABLE outfitters have left. They got rid of the old service gift program for outfitters. As if thanking a staff member who sticks it out for 30 years with a $3000 shotgun is going to destroy the bottom line. The lifetime guarantee is now gone. The product quality has also dropped. Sad.
@@stuponfucious7 Right. When I drive by the parking lot it is nowhere near how it used to be. It used to be packed on the weekends and now it’s empty. Even well before covid, it was empty.
@@stuponfucious7 Yes to the Quality of the Cabela's items that is true.
@@nicod1886 Yes and this is due to how well other places like Walmart, Costco, even big box outdoor/some sports stores, and then some places like your farm and fleet stores have stepped up there amount of items offered for strictly hunting or would work for hunting.
32:25 I'd offer that a sawyer mini is a superior option to a lifestraw. I'll spare everyone the big write up, but all you need to do is use a lifestraw to fill a cooking pot, clean a wound, fill a bowl for a dog, etc. The token photo of someone on their hands and knees looks cool and dynamic, but the lifestraw is better left at home next to the coghlands compass whistle and bar soap holder
One thing that Bass Pro/Cabela's has is their price match policy. So if it's cheaper somewhere else they will match it and beat it by another 5%. Plus the military discount which Walmart and other stores don't have.
Yep thats a great thing
I miss the bargain cave cabelas used to have
Agree. They still have one but it's super small and a waste of time anymore
Yeah the old bargain cave used to be useful, but now its just a small section and 90% of the stuff in it is broken. Broken fishing rods and stuff like that.
@@rodbelding9523 yep pretty sad bargain cave now
CABELA'S IS GOOD BECAUSE THEY HAVE MANY THINGS THAT
OTHER STORES DO NOT CARRY. PLUS THE SUPPLY IS GOOD.
OFTEN OTHER STORES OR SOURCES ARE SOLD OUT. AND
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM YOU CAN TAKE IT BACK.
Bass pro ruined Cabela’s, not a fan anymore! Have some outstanding scores from the old bargin cave.
“$1,300, this would be the dumbest purchase you ever made” lol
Some stuff is crazy expensive
My son bought me a suit online from Russia, called a Gorkha. It's made of this ripstop canvas with patches on the wrists, knees, shoulders and elbows. It comes in dark brown/ green or brown and tan. Completely protects you from thorns and burrs. It fits over your regular clothes, but has elastic gathers, so you're not dragging your sleives around everything. Like all things Russian, they're overbult. It cost him a couple hundred bucks. We look like Call of Duty extras, but we're warm, dry, bug and stick free.
Sounds like a great piece!
And every deer hears your every move from 1/4 mile away… lmao
Everybody loves Cabellas!
Fun to look at all the big fish and stuffed animals. What I have noticed is that I dont see a lot of people buying anything. Dont know how they keep the place open?
I’ve got hunting clothes from Walmart, Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops, my local gas station and stuff I had in the military. I have camo, solid and everything in between. I’ve come to the conclusion that what you’re wearing is about 90% gimmick, 7% comfort and 3% function. With those odds, I now choose what is comfortable and looks cool lol!
That works!
Great info in here, I'll be looking for the stuff you recommended when I go for my next shopping trip!! Thanks!
some great finds there!
I use BPS for ammo. Stock is limited yet the prices are still good in comparison to a lot of my local shops. Can still get 500 and 1000 boxes at the right time and what is in comparison a great price.
For ammo also check out targetsportsusa I buy all my 1000 round bulk there and free shipping.
I like the longer videos you put out. A lot of good information in this video!
Thanks!
Old cabela's was the best. It is a ghost of years past
So true. So sad
Well done - Thanks! I'm with you though on Walmart - lots of bargains to be had there - especially with the clothes, camping and hunting firearms.
But, but-but I like the mantles...there triditional, give off heat and love there running sound..and that pop when lit....priceless. That light is cool though.
hahaha. Do love a classic lantern!
Love the Keen boots.wear them every day for work.thought about getting another pair just for early bow season just for comfort and light weight
Yep love keens
I have tidied my own camo ever since I joined the Amry back in 1979. Im pretty much on the same page as you when it comes to what I call the micro-camo patterns. My favorite camo has always been the Fred Bear pattern (The Army camo was about the same) and the old tree bark pattern that I believe was the very first camo for hunters many many years ago.
Yep the big blotchy patterns work awesome. Asat is another fantastic one!
SITKA, IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE CLOTHING MAKER. I ORDERED A 850 KUIU VEST MONTHS BACK. VERY DISAPOINTED, I COULD SEE RIGHT THROUGH IT, THE FILL WAS 20% IN THE PUFF LINES. THEY WERE HONORABLE AND REFUNDED ME AS I RETURNED SAME DAY. BIG FAN OF FIRST LITE ALSO, EQUAL TO SITKA. ALSO BIGGER FAN OF THE CHEST HIGH BIBS, WHEN HUNTING OVER PANTS.
Love Sitka and first light. And my kuiu guide vest. All of them make quality clothing. Just hate the peice tag..lol
Great video. This guy will stick to his bow for as long as I can. There is nothing more exciting to me than having to draw a bow on a deer.
If you have a Rural King near you, which you can buy online from them too, they have their brand of jugs very similar to the VP Racing jugs for 19.99. I have one and the only thing I had to do was put a hose clamp around the connection of the clear hose to the jug. It leaked just a little, and the clamp took care of it. For carrying gas or water, it works great!
Yep will never buy a normal gas can again. Love the race jugs.
What can I say, dude loves his vests!
Best peice of hunting gear in my opinion!!!! Love my vests!
Damn... can't believe you threw the Baffin Titans under the bus when you were looking at the rubber boots 😄
I love the baffins best cold weather boot I've ever owned
LOVE MY JET SLED!!! COMBINE THE SLED WITH A HUNTERS' SPECIALTIES BLOCK AND TACKLE YOU CAN BRING A HEAVY DEER RIGHT OUT OF A RAVINE AND STEEP BANKS. BOOM!!!
Great idea using the block and tackle! And the jet sled is such an amazing hunting tool
For the fire cooking set, another possible solution would be fill with sand until you get the desired height. A bag of sand from the hardware store would be cheaper and easier than modification.
That is a fantastic idea!
Sitka incinerator bibs are the best investment I have made. Super slim warm and quiet. No sweating your ass off walking into the woods too.
Just sold my Sitka stratus set. I thought it was loud. Where I hunt in Michigan deer are way to on edge for that much noise. I went and bought the stuff you pointed out at Walmart and love it. Can’t beat the price of it. I got the shirts on clearance for $2 each and base layers for $3 each. Vs the Sitka price it’s a no brainer
right there with ya. have a bunch of super expensive stuff that just sits in my hunting clothes box. I only wear the cheap stuff.
Good to see the weddings are picking back up. Great video same cot for 35 bucks unreal. I will be getting those vp race cans for hunting camp thanks
Yeah the cot prices make me laugh. But fantastic cots! love ours, especially for 35 bucks. Those race cans are the most amazing cans ever! you will love them.
A couple of those cans went on my list as well
Thanks, Jason another great video. Please keep them coming.
Thank you
Jason, great tips again, I literally took notes, and next trip to Walmart or Cabalas I’m looking.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Do another one of these videos! Really enjoyed this. I have drank the Sitka Kool-aid, haven't bought a thing from them that I didn't like.
No denying sitka makes some amazing stuff. Have 4 sitka pieces now and love them! Yoy don't need them for most whitetail hunting, but they sure are nice on my hard-core hunts!
Very cool..a ton of information from a very non sponsored non bias perspective. I like the way you were not only just honest but you gave your reasons. I almost wish you spent longer and went through more. Or even went to another store. I did watch the one you did at Walmart and agreed with you on it as well. I was a little surprised you didn't walk through the mens department more. But that is ok, very informative.
Glad you liked the videos. Honestly I made these as filler videos to use when I was running low on videos..lol but the amount of people that watched and loved them means I might do a few more later this year. They seem to really hit home with alot of people. Funny thing is I thought these videos would be total flops and no body would watch them!
@@SamkoTradBow Thanks, it's a good video. But do grab a lead, or department manager . They can, and gladly will do the walk through with you and enjoy the input and to share some additional product knowledge. Leads are sent to a course at the Springfield store and given a very detailed, very detailed... course on the products in the department. Plus you take a variety of product courses online at the store as part of the continuing training. Managers get even more in depth. Johnny is a very avid outdoorsman himself and customer service is a huge part of his doctrine. They welcome input from customers who use thier products, good and bad.
@@ronthompson2366 good to know! Thank you
seat folds up on the millinium. worth the money for longer sits
Keep doin these kind of videos it's very helpful and informative.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Pricing can be tough to truly figure out. Retailers basically say "we need it on the shelf at this price," and more often than not, the manufacturer will cheapen the product to accommodate. Not always, but there is a good chance that the Cabela's version of the detergent is better quality and less diluted.
Could be right
Great video. I'm with you on camo, I'm not a fan of most camo but Mossy Oak nailed camo patterns with the Terra Gila and Terra Outland which is only available thru Scent Lok which you showed in the video. I rarely wear camo pants but I do wear the scent lok Terra patterns in jackets and shirts. Being a stalker solid tops have busted me in the past, which ultimately movement is what has gotten me. Anyway great video
Glad you enjoyed the video. Yep those Terra patterns are very nice
I worked at and opened the Dundee store...much different now than in 2000
Sure is and the archery department is laughable now
I sell shoes at Cabela's. One of my favorite things to get are the redhead ultimate wool series socks and the ascend hiking socks. They are made in USA.
Keens and lacrosse boots are also my favorites
Yep those ultimate wool socks are fantastic
I have those socks, they are really really good.
I DO LIKE KUIU MERINO WOOL BASE LAYERS, NO REGRET BUYS THERE.
Heard great things about them
Love the vid, agree with you on every point.
Thank you
The cabelas in dundee is alot bigger on floor space than bass pro shops in Auburn hills.
This was the cabelas in dundee. Great store
I'll try Keen boots after hearing your opinion, but I've had 3 pairs of "super high end" boots that wore perfectly and lasted over the last 40+ years. Totally agree with you about those simple green LaCrosse Burleys, best rubber boots ever made, hunters too often get blinded by camo products
I think you will be very happy with the keens. They are not a last 30 years boot but they are affordable, comfortable and last a few seasons for sure!
@@SamkoTradBow My issue is width. I just ordered a Crispi Nevada GTX boot for $400 over the Keen Targhee III because the width just isn't wide enough. I could have ordered 3 of the Keens for the price.
I have Keen Chelsea (pull on no lace’s) leather boots that are more dressy but are waterproof up to the ankle’s. Again it’s a boot you wear with Jean’s but it’s fantastic and easy to put on. I’m thinking the stretch material isn’t waterproof but I’ve yet to have wet feet in them. Great made boot for $150 and it’s something I wear in the winter with the snow in Buffalo NY
@@greg6162 did you get them at Bass Pro in Buffalo? Hour and half drive for me
I bought a pair of lowa tibet boots which literally exploded from walking about 200 feet on concrete from hydrolysis of the polyurethane midsole. All the high end boots use them now so while the upper may last forever they have programmed failures into the midsole within 5 years maximum. It's total bs
And I'm in 100% agreement , I'm as you know, a diehard freediving spearfisherman in addition to a longbow hunter.
Every year we go to Rhode island ( except this stupid covid year 🤬)
With a vehicle load of Coleman and igloo marine coolers.
We bring back hundreds of pounds of fish, packed in ice.
I literally have to chip the ice when we get home to get them out.
AMAZING coolers.
And don't let advertising fool ya.
I've seen maybe 1 spearo wheel a big yeti to the dock to get their fish.
Almost to the person, coleman or igloo marine all the way!
Yep not a fan of the yeti style coolers for the weight and price and theft factor.
Merino wool is the best base layer. Also deluth trading company makes a really good base layer too.
Thanks for posting this video! Very nice.
Very welcome
Thank you Sir! You opened my eyes 👀👍💯
Glad you enjoyed it.
Fully agree with you on Lems for processing. I've used the same grinder since the mid 90s along with my dad and it has literally done 100s of deer without an issue ever. With BPS buying out Cabelas I no longer trust the quality of anything being put out by that name now.
Agree on both counts
Sounds like someone is trying to sign a deal with first lite 😂🤣
🤣🤣🤣 I definitely would never sign a deal with a clothing company
Good vid dude also for people out there , 100% deet is not bow finish -friendly ! Lol, it can melt plastics and certain finishes
So just be aware 😉🤙🤙🇨🇦
Yep im about done with 100% the 40 works just as good in my opinion.
Great video
I always stop there when home on leave
Yep had to pass by with out stopping in there.
The only reason I shop Cabela's is the big and tall option that I can return to the store if needed. Other than that it's expensive and not much better quality than anything at academy or Walmart
That is a great option to be able to return in store for sure.
Great video , at the end , i would look at the millennium m150 , not lone wolf . Millennium are way more comfortable hands down . Even the m100 you looked at isn’t bad , I have 4 of them . Sit in one sometime . If your one for bigger platforms , go with the m150
Millennium makes good stands! Glad you really like them!
Loved this video
thanks
Nice job Jason love the videos keep them coming
Thank you
My BPS wouldn't sell not even one of those vest's here, matter of fact I've been going to out new BPS every month or so since it opened in 2016 and haven't seen a vest for sale yet!
Which I'm glad of too, because buying a vest is like your kid's going to the mall to buy already torn up and shredded pants for a 100 buck's.
If you need less to stay warm then wear less🤷
And if you're a traditional bow hunter you'll be wearing a arm sock anyways if it's cold outside 🤔
I'm a traditional bow hunter and don't even know what an arm sock is. But probably never wore one.
Love this content its great. You and I are so much alike. Love vests. Don't care for gloves or camo. I don't mind the Wal-Mart stuff. Except I find it funny you like to save money but have 8 hand muffs! Thats great ! 😁
Hahaha! Can never have enough hand muffs!
Jason, what hand muffs do you like the best? My hands get cold and they stay that way these days no matter what gloves I wear.
Honestly I like the coveralls better than anything else
Might be a good tip to check out Sierra Trading post. Great stuff. Crap shoot on what’s there but you can find some awesome deals!!
sierra and back country both have good sales often.
The square checkering on those pants is called rip stop.
Thanks I knew that just could not get the word into my head while filming.
Nice video. Was wondering what do you wear late season? Lot of the clothes from the walmart video and this one seem to be good early and mid season.
Usually just more layers of thermals. I also jave some wool that I wear when it gets into single digits. But most of lat season I'm in 3 thermals, cotton pants, a sweatshirt, ascender jacket and vest
Awesome man I like your videos buddy. Have you tried the first lite camo and clothing ? I really like it but its definitely on the high side. I recently been just wearing a pair of tactical pants and leafy top for turkey seemed to work fine I was able stalk and kill 4 long beards. Anyway buddy thanks for the video you need come to east tn trout fish or do some hunting. I still been looking at them cummins cant seem to get them down any lol I'm stuck at 61k on one like yours. Have a good day be safe.
I have a few firstlite pieces and love them. Especially the rain gear! Yeah the vehicle industry is turned upside down right now. Its brutal. no inventory and demand is very high and dealers are not budging. Just bought a 2020 cherokee trialhawk yesterday to replace my renegade and it took me 3 days to get a excellent deal and I am really good at this..lol was the hardest I ever had to work for a deal and the deal was not as good as I could of got pre covid.
Wait till the end of the year on the Cabelas brand stuff. I’ve picked up ridiculous priced goretex MT50. Good look ever catching kuiu on sale anywhere
Uep cabelas has some good sales from time to time. Need to always be watching
Great Video. Well Done!!!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
Lately, my local BPS store has had a very sparse inventory. I’d love to buy some hunting gear from them, but they don’t have it in stock.
Yep same here. empty shelves are the norm now I guess.
They have gone down since BPS bought them cheaper chinese store brand clothes. higher prices and you have to pay shipping on returns now don't really shop them anymore
Yep miss cabelas when it was cabelas
Do they still have the bargain cave. That store there is the only cabela’s I have ever been to. Kids loved the aquarium. We went there in late January I was told that the bargain cave was where you would find the deals. That after Christmas it would be stocked up because of all the Christmas gift returns
They do but its about 25% of what it used to be.
Dude how are you driving and holding a phone filming yourself? Pull over please.😂
Just went there today and got some camo
Awesome
great video 👍🏽
Thank you! 👍
Cabelas archery section is a joke every since they moved to bass pro
agree, its sad, very sad
Great review
Thank you
$80 bucks sorry you bumped your head lol!!!
Im pretty cheap at heart and it comes out of my mouth sometimes...lol
Yeah that Carhartt puffy vest wouldn't be a deal until it had sleeves and a hood, sorry 😐
But then again I don't think vests are worth it period 🤷
@@rowdybroomstick1216 I'm on the opposite end of that. I love vests. They keep your body warm without the bulk on your arms for bow string clearance.
very informative
Thanks
I bought kryptek on sale at ganders for half off or more pants shirts long sleeve a kryptek anorak for 70$, the only thing I paid full price was for the rain gear and i paid less money for both top and bottom than for one of those jackets, i got gloves and boots ect saved tons
Well done and great deal finding skills
@@SamkoTradBow The sierra trading post in novi is where you should stop at also ollies there is one near newport they have some fishing gear too and some decent hunting gear
A lot of people are realizing how much better crossbow hunting is compared to compound. Faster, better foc, more accurate. All around more advanced than compound bows. It's what compounds want to be when they get all grown up lol.
Neither of those fit into my bag of hunting tools🤣🤣
Lol best line for that price they better walk me in and Walk me out with no energy of mine used
Hahahah. Those were crazy expensive
Cool review
Thanks
Good video on the outrageous expense of cabelas.thanks
Yep it sure can be expensive
How many times did u have to cut the camera because a rep asked if you were a Cabela’s Club Member??
lol! they sure do like to try and sign you up.
The grid material cargo pants is known as rip-stop nylon.
Thank you. I knew that just xould not for the life of me remember it while I was filming
Do you use the jet sled to drag out your deer? wondering how well they work.
Yep all the time. and it reduces the drag felt weight down to about 25% its amazing and makes life so much eaiser.
Jason is the only now hunter I know of that don't like camo.
hahahaha. Im ok with that.
A good pair of wool pants has never failed me.
Have lots of great wool. Wool is and always will be fantastic. Dont wear it much anymore but it is excellent.
But where can a guy find some
Cabela's price matches. Nice vid, tho
Carry your wallet when in the bush? Incase you need $20 to cross a river? Take your drivers license out & leave the wallet in the glove compartment
How do you feel about staying away from blues. They say deer can see blue really easily.
I try not to wear blue. But jave killed over a dozen deer in blue jeans as I was too lazy to change pants.
Should check out Habit Outdoors. Great stuff at an amazing price. Can't find anything else that beat it.
Love cabelas only because the company i work. We did all the steel work for it in hamburg pa. But way over priced on just about all there stuff. But great video on some of there deals
Thanks! Glad you liked the video
I don't hunt but wouldn't Velcro on hunting clothing be a bad thing? Velcro makes a ton of noise. Just wondering your thinking behind that. Thnx.
velcro has never bothered me in the woods. nor does most sounds. opening a zippers on a pack is just as loud. I just dont recommend opening anything like that zipper or velcro while deer are in range to hear it.
Super ti je kanal. Veliki pozdrav ☺️
I used to use Mictrotex extensively. Long lastings, quiet, and bug proof. After Bass Pro bought them they changed the material to Microtex Stretch and now it is pure garbage. Just street clothes for me going forward.
Good to know. Appreciate this comment as will many others that are looking at it!
Just went to Cabelas in PA last weekend and it was a worthless trip. We went to get some hunting gear and camping gear and there wasn't anything worthwhile. Either overpriced or very few options. We went to this store about 3 years ago and it was much nicer with a ton of camping gear.
Yep cabelas has fallen pretty bad
That Millenium m100u is way more comfortable than the Lone Wolf
Awesome. Glad you like it
How do you hunt pressured deer in public land?? Excellent video and information! Loved your Walmart video!
Hunt hard, find places others wont go, and hunt times when others are often at the truck for lunch etc. Public is a tough hunt, but i love it and the freedom of no fences.
@@SamkoTradBow thanks a bunch man! Keep the content coming
@@southpawhammer8644 thanks

You're right on bout the big box stores getting lost on what our archery needs are. They're just putting things out to get $$$. They really have no clue on proper gear. The crossbows have made surges as way for few gun hunters to get in woods( not knocking my gun brothers), we're all hunters and I support their hunting styles. Just saying
100% true.
Leave the real archery stuff for the real bow shops
Our cabelas is ok .. the 10 more minutes it takes to get to bass pro is well worth it , bass pro camo is way cheaper than what cabelas sells
They are the same exact store with the same prices as they are now owned by thw same company. But I agree some stores are bigger and better than others.
@@SamkoTradBow oh I know that , and maybe it's just ours ,but bass pro here sells the redhead brand cheap ,and great clothing.. the cabelas doesnt sell it , only the high dollar stuff

I love your video! However, on my budget, I can't afford Cabela's.
Yep me neither with alot of stuff. Thats why I buy most of my stuff at walmart.
