The feed adjuster essentially acts as a governor for the stove. Some adjustments may need to be made based on the pellet being used, however it's more about how large of an area you are heating and how well insulated that area is. As this dial regulates the amount of fuel that can come into the burnpot at any given point in time when running in Room Temp operation (This dial is not in play when running on Stove Temp mode). For example if I have a Harman P68 (68,000 BTU) if I have my feed adjuster at 3 it is limiting it to 34,000 BTU max fuel input. On a 6 setting it would be 68,000 BTU max fuel input. I used to have a P68 in a large, older, drafty home and it required that feed adjuster to be on 5 or 6 most of the time regardless of fuel type. Rule of thumb for the feed adjuster dial is to initially set on 3, turn to room temp, turn the thermostat dial all the way up to 90, and see where the fire line is in the burnpot after 1 hour/60minutes. We want to see 1 inch from the fire line to the edge of the burnpot. If after an hour it's pushing fuel/coals over the edge, turn it down, if it's burning deeper into the burnpot turn it up. As Scott mentions, adjustments may need to be made when changing out to different pellets. Adjustments may also need to be made at different times of the season as the weather fluctuates. Here is a video to compliment some of this information. ua-cam.com/video/cZErnzd53IA/v-deo.html
Thank you for all this information. I have been searching for details exactly describing the controls on my pellet stove. Thank you, thank you and thank you so much!

I have a Harmon P 43 I use the feed rate setting at 4 no matter what pellets I have and it maintains it very well. I find that keeping the stove on a desired temperature I use less pellets than having my stove click on and off unnecessarily. P 43 is very efficient with an 1100 square-foot area. Six years old and I haven’t replaced anything except the igniter only because I felt it was time it wasn’t broken so I keep it as a spare. I did notice though the combustion motor is getting a little louder . I took the side covers off and cleaned it very good because you’d be surprised what you’ll find in there’ also on the right side of the stove as you’re facing it there’s a small trap door there that collects the fines from the hopper that’s very important to clean that seasonal. I believe there’s one wingnut there that releases that door. Clean that heat exchanger once a week the burn pot daily and you’re good to go. Make sure you do a thorough cleaning every season . I burn roughly 2 ton. I like this guy quote ! summer romance mode ! I’ve never use that but that is a good feature. But if I want a summer romance mode I’ll go outside with a fire pit. 😄 Good video!
Hi Scott I cleaned sensor on my Harmon XXV as your suggestion and I am to replace the exhaust motor tomorrow.. Do you carry an extension exhaust pipe. I would like to extend Stove farther from the wall. It is hard to move alone and would be much easier to clean ect. I have pulled stove out 6" to work on it. Please Advise
i have an original P61 can i convert it to run like a P61a and if i did what is the cost of doing so. being that the stove cannot shut down and start back up again in mild weather, i feel this wastes allot of pellets. does that make a big difference. pellets are hardly free. other then that, its -1 outside and the house is 65 degrees and only heated by my stove. it is my only source of heat. i have an old furnace in the basement that works but hasnt even been powered up in three years. its old and efficient and that harman is so reliable i dont really even worry about it. i just make sure i have a good supply of pellets at all times and its good to go. i prefer wood heat, pellets are a modern woodstove. much better temperature control as much as i like cordwood.
So, I am trying to figure out an efficient want to burn pellets while keeping my house warm. If I set my stove to auto, on stove internal temp and put the internal temp on a 3 (65degrees) then what is the point of the feed rate? Since the ESP wants to hit and maintain its set goal it will be taking over feed rate regardless. Do you understand what I am asking?
I have the same stove, i was wondering if you have a video for the ignitor installation or any instructions? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance
@@James-th8rx no mine actually came with the auto igniter I changed after six years because they tend to go in that timeframe and I kept it as a spare because it still works! The only thing I notice is that it was lighting the burn pot on one side and eventually it would catch so I’m guessing it was on its way out. The one thing I will say is try not to replace the door gasket I did and there’s nothing like the original door gasket the ones they replace it with are not the same. So I regret changing that. This was the best investment I ever made as far as a heat source because I have electric baseboard and I refused to use that although it’s nice to have a back up heat source. I don’t have a video I will search but it’s just two wires with quick connects on them and two screws that you can access through the plate on the burn pot fairly easy to change it’s just awkward.
@@Rob-hv9kt ah ok. I was unaware that these stoves came with auto igniter. Mine did not come with it. Regardless mine is now in operation. Completely agree, one of my better investments, although i picked mine up for very cheap. Only had to replace the auger and replace some outer accessories. I switched over from coal, which is a little more economical but a lot messier. Like you, i also have electric baseboard as well. Anything is cheaper than that!!
one thing always confuses me , if the feed rate dial is set at 3 can i maintain a 400-450 degree exhaust temp. ? giving me a warmer distribution air temp without having it increase the pellet feed rate OR does the feed rate dial control how warm the distribution air is ?
I have a Harman P68 and my flames just started going all over the place yesterday, would you recommend adjusting the draft switch? Along with where exactly is it? Is it the little white button next to the temp control? Thank you!
If the other components are working, I was advised to let the stove run for up to 35 minutes, by which time the distribution motor should start blowing air into the room.
does anyone know where to get the auger push arm for this unit on the video, I have an old invincible built in 1994 and the spring has broken on it leaving the arm in the up poisition
hey could someone here give me some pointers we just got a used Harman we are putting in friday............ 10/26/18 we are venting threw wall we live in a trailer that is 78 feet this should heat the whole place right and any tips i can get would be great and thank you all and have a nice day
I'm dealingvqith one on my second season. It came with a house we bought. I leave it in auto mode at 1-1 1/2 and the temp around 75. It rarely shuts off. My problem is it's 48,000 btu but my house is close to 2,000 square feet. It doesnt reach the kitchen, office, or laundry room too good and my bedroom get down in the mid 50's 😨 Best bet is to have it near an air intake and see if it'll help circulate the air. If not try using a fan to help move the air.
try to clean it and if it's still not working make sure you have the right color for your unit. I replaced mine with the wrong one once, and that's an expensive mistake
With my p68 on romance mode is the auger supposed to feed the pellets or do I have to do that and then light it how does that work I started it up and it sat for 2 minutes and nothing happened

when its as cold as it is right now i run the stove on feed setting of 6 it does not overfill the burnpot. the stove will not keep up with the extremely cold temps when its on 3. im not sure if that's the way its supposed to be but that's the way it always has been
My guess is " Harman " lol mine does the same. It's only shut itself off twice when on a low setting. Also it sucks for circulating heat through the house. I guess they're built for houses the are tight and tall lol Heat raises but seems week for spreading out 🤦🏿♂️

Can someone explain distribution Fan settings better? Does a Low to high setting more-or-less change it from a radiant heat to a forced/directed air?

Igniter is very easy to change it 2 screws and it goes through the burn pot plate that removable plate.

He said the feed rate calibrates it for each type of pellet. High BTU output vs low. It's a fine tune setting
what could be wrong if the distribution light wont turn on?
Try to bypass the vacuum switch and see if it comes on.
See my reply to Dan McCoy about this issue.
Do you have information on the conversion to automatic light?
