Incredibly stupid. “Literacy and illiteracy are not mutually exclusive and precise categories.” Hmm... “There are many ways to be literate. People can learn to read and write and then forget” - i.e they’re not literate anymore! Academics may impress each-other with this approach - expand every category til it includes its opposite; reassess our standards until they are meaningless; scoff at our predecessors who would condescendingly call someone who doesn’t know how to read “illiterate”!!! but it is sad stuff. Where is the scholarly integrity? Has she nothing honest to say?
