MLP Make Your Mark Chapter 5 is out! How will this set of episodes from My Little Pony turn out? We shall see!
I think the reason why Opaline's way of draining magic is so overly complicated is cause the writers are trying to drag the whole "her becoming powerful" out as long as they can so they can have that one big moment in the final chapter where she does gain all the power she wants before being defeated.
Also yeah i hate how they set her up as this big bad that not even Twilight could defeat yet half the time is either treated like a joke or has a catch that just makes her seem less dangerous.
she's the most underwhelming villain ever, she finally found a way into town and she couldn't do anything except steal a cutiemark and go back to her castle.
I like the feeling that she WAS really dangerous but this is what she became after Twilight nerfed her. It cost Twilight everything she had, but she did manage to mostly nullify the threat as best she could, but she lost her alicorn magic so, as a last ditch effort she left a message for some Pony in the future.
@@forestgrump4723 If that’s the case, they need to establish it. As it is, we are no closer to understand what happened in the past or where Opaline came from.
Obvious problem:
Twilight in the show, fights Dragon Ball level of explosions and super speed fights and large scale attacks.
Villain who challenged later Twilight now with full power: Laser tag in a single small room.
Twilight fought a villain who stole EVERYONE'S MAGIC including Discord. Yet this primadonna who NEVER appeared prior or was ever mentioned.
Somehow challenged her to the point that she, as mentioned by the wiki, did the same thing as the others did against Sombra and cast a shield to keep her out.
And here her full power doesn't even scale a fraction to what was shown in the original series?
Reading the wiki and fan videos helped me learn all this and I'm just so disgusted at how bad this is.
I don't even watch the show, but watching the reviews and break downs of this one ironically makes me like the previous gen.
@@magnusm4 She also Fought Tirek with the magic of all 4 alicorn Princesses and the elements of harmony, Twilight without the elements gets bodied by basically every villain in the show. Hell, Starlight was matching twilight. The show itself shows that twilight isn't as powerful as a lot of people make her out to be.
I think the cutie blossom bash is something that might have been founded by the CMC, like seriously it's like really something they would do.

I think Sunny’s cutie mark is about guiding ponies through their troubles, as stars are often used as guides when people are lost.
That’s actually a really smart theory, though I doubt the development team of G5 really thought of that.

@@-pastellovessans6703 how can you say the team lacks development when you wont even make the effort to watch? Hasbro has also extremely underfunded the project and tried to force the team tom use Ai for writing and voices which they have heavily declined. it's a behind the scenes battle.

In episode 4, when the heir of Moonadancer (forgot her name) speak of the past, she mention a story about a bat called "DAWN" (Luster Dawn) and the others were behaving but one of them didn't get along (Opaline) so she asked to a spider (Discord maybe?) To craft a web to keep her away(the bubble that surround the castle of Opaline).
does anyone realise that we may have just been told what actually happened after G4 ?!!!!

I feel like the cutie mark appears when you discover the kind of pony you want to be. So, hitch got his because he wants to be the kind of pony you can rely on. A leader. Sunny got hers because she wants to be the kind of pony that helps guide others through their problem. Like a guiding star. Pipp got hers because she wants to be a pony that shines in the spotlight. Like a pop star. Zipp got hers because she wants to be the kind of pony to blaze her own trail. Cutting through the darkness of uncertainty like lightning. And Izzy got hers because she wants to be the kind of pony who uses what she has to make others smile. The writers just worded it poorly, and seashell…. Is a kid who hasn’t really figured out how her cutie mark ties into who she wants to be. Hitch THOUGHT his cutie mark came because he was kind but in reality he saw his friends being cruel and thought “that’s not who I wanna be.”

I agree with you about the rest, apart from the fact that in each episode there is a new writer, so it seems that they don't even have good communication between them.

I think generally the writing suffers from two main problems: they're scared of ever raising the stakes so much so that anyone is in any actual danger. While FIM has it's smaller scale stories, it's not uncommon for run of the mill episodes to be about defeating giant monsters or vindictive performers taking an entire town hostage. They can't seem to decide wether to make opaline a serious threat or a gag villain for this exact reason. They want the drama of a serious villain but aren't willing to commit lest a character actually gets hurt. Stuff like characters potentially losing jobs, missing opportunities to attain goals, characters being roped into situations they don't want to be in? Doesn't ever seem to happen.
Another major issue is that magic just exists to solve conflict, something which rarely happens in FIM. Magic is introduced to heighten a character's interpersonal drama or otherwise cause a problem that has to be solved through friendship. Spike gets overly greedy and possessive about getting stuff for his birthday? Bam. dragon magic makes him into more and more of a giant beast. Him remembering a time where giving a gift made him feel connected to someone else solves the problem. This show rarely does this, magic seems to be more of a beacon that simply points out the answer to whatever conflict the characters face. I wouldn't even care so much about weird continuity if it was simply able to tell better stories.
I think elderflower has more going on to her personally. After talking about moondancer, she acts like she’s talking TO moondancer. I’m wondering if she may be capable of actually communicating with her ancestors’ spirits? With moondancer being a longtime friend of twilight, I could very easily see this being how she has so much knowledge about g4 era. Then again, she also mentioned a “sparkly wedding,” which kind of seems like a reference to Cadance and shining armors wedding (especially with the shining armor cameo painting), AND she recognized a hat from the carousel boutique (unclear if it was from Rarity or made during the time Yona worked at the boutique), so she could just be like the Granny Smith of the generation who has lived for an inexplicably long time, even though she most certainly should’ve died by now. She could also be getting some sort of ancestral knowledge that’s screwing with her memory, so things like the boutique and the wedding could possibly be things told to her by her ancestors?

She’s definitely getting knowledge from her ancestors, and she was talking to Moondancer (after talking about Moondancer). Her stories HAVE to be real events in history if she’s able to connect to her ancestors, and other ponies of the past. Maybe she can talk to Twilight and the OG mane 6 about what happened.
Doesn’t Izzy also talk to some ancestor at some point ? Maybe this is a unicorn thing to do ?

This. She was absolutely tapping into her ancestor's memories rather than her own. I highly doubt it was only a few generations based on everything else that has been mentioned about the time span between G4 and G5.
The cutie-mark removal got me wondering how powerful Opaline really is, especially in her "Weaker" states. If Starlight was shown to be able to remove the cutie marks of five ponies at once, what's stopping Opaline from doing the same? Sure, Starlight spent years to study advanced spells but Opaline has and would be around longer than that.
It's weird how simplified the cutie-marks, that they're way more generic and vague- instead of the vague destiny things.
Pinkie learns to celebrate for others, Twilight learns to unite magics (of 5 friends, but also 5 main non-ponies), Sunset is about the duality of worlds and her personality.
By this logic, Starscout's should mean her unifying the three main pony types, or learning how to stand up for herself. She's the embodiment of hope, not compromise. Maybe from her reading and creating her protest signs.
Also, G5 repeatedly undermining G4 makes it hurt both shows. Like how Part 6 of JoJo can undermine the other parts.
Chapter 5's plots felt, while promising, just a bit too redundant- too much "hey I'm too excited to listen to you". Too much "Misty is shy and no one respects her boundaries".

The locket heavily reminded me of the ruby heart that Spike gave to Rarity.
I was quite upset at how the cutie marks were handled. Not even just the bad writing around them but how rushed it all was. It was like rapid fire then “Okay let’s move on now!”
I agree with you on how Cutie marks shouldn’t have been a thing because of there was no magic.
So maybe this part of the story could be something like no one has any cutie marks and society has changed to the point where people just choose what they do.
And when magic came back at the end of the movie Sunny would be the first pony in however to long to get a cutie mark based on her actions of uniting the pony races.
And then the series could explore the other main 6 getting their cutie marks a long with other characters. Maybe the cutie mark is in contrast with their current career path and/or hobby.
They could not like what their special talent/destiny is. And for other characters their cutie mark matches perfectly with their choices in life.
A pony could have expectations on what their cutie mark is. Another could think they have to stop what they do now because their cutie male says it’s not what they’re supposed to do.
So that would be like personal driving conflict for the individual characters. Based on whatever issue they have in tandem with their cutie mark based on misconceptions from cutie marks not being around for a long time.
So interpersonal conflict with Opaline as an overarching conflict.
Honestly, I think G4's lore around cutie marks caused a LOT of confusion about how they work....
Even by the end of G4, some fans felt cutie marks weren't explained enough. The destiny aspect is something that some people don't like because it implies a pony's path in life is set even before they are born. Which goes against the concept of free will kinda.
Changing it from "destiny" to "an aspect of a pony's personality" may have been a better choice in the long run.
Cutie marks shouldn't exist without magic. For example they just disappear off Celesria and Luna when they gave Twilight their magic! I like this fix here
If Cutie Marks didn't have to exist without magic, why when Cozy Glow almost stole all the magic, did Cutie Marks still exist? Or when Starlight stole the cutie marks, the ponies still had Magic?
That sounds so interesting, I am mad that they did not use that in Make Your Mark. It would have given more characters depth and explore who they are and how react to their cutie marks and what they represent. Seriously, why did they not do it?
I almost want something bigger to happen with the cutie marks. Opaline steals their cutie marks and as they fight for them, they rediscover their destinies then their REAL cutie marks reveal themselves or something. Like the other ones were just temporary until the magic came back
So many issues G5 has wouldn't exist if they just laid g4 to rest and did their own thing entirely. but noooo. they have to try to have their cake and eat it too
I do think the show is improving with every chapter, but I wasn't ever as negative about it as you were, to be fair. Misty is my favorite character and this chapter focused mostly on her, so I can't really complain.

Thanks for your thoughts. Make your mark chapter 5 had jerked my tears during Misty's reunion. Also Opaline has become a little joke at this point and her threat level has shrunk significantly. I am still waiting for a shrunk pony episode so I hope it happens
It seems that she chose the worst possible time to make her grand entrance, which is why nobody took Opaline seriously. I find it amusing. She could’ve taken advantage of it, but the fact that she prioritized being recognized as a threat over actually being a threat definitely says a lot about Opaline’s priorities. How often thought of Opaline as a narcissist, and it actually shows.

I’m still so mad that the movie was so good and the show dropped the ball on all parts.
As soon as I saw the locket- that Sunny got from the breezies-, I immediately thought of the red heart locket that was gifted from Twilight to Starlight Glimmer and her group after she stopped the changelings.
What do you think of Opaline not being able to go to Maretime Bay until now? At first I assumed she wouldn't go there because she wasn't strong enough to take on all the ponies and didn't want to reveal herself yet (or because she's lazy and wants Misty to do everything for her). Especially after chapter 4 showed that she is not trapped in the castle and can leave whenever she wants. But now she's saying she "found a path" there. MB is physically pretty close to her castle, since Misty runs there and back multiple times in a day at times. And she can see it with her magic, since the cloaking spell that "used to be" around Equestria is gone (according to both Misty and Twilight in chapter 2). But Opaline still couldn't get there. But her magic could. But her magic couldn't see inside the Brighthouse. But the mouse made from her magic could. Her powers are so confusing. A show for 6-year-olds shouldn't be this hard to follow.
The entire thing is dumb. Basically, the writers seem to have this idea in their heads that magic can do anything they want for the sake of padding the runtime. Most of the random limitations that are given to Opaline feel like they just exist to make her plans take more steps.
"Great Great Great Great Auntie Moondancer" could still be a long time since to ponies that's much longer than humans, going back to the calculations of the apple family tree, and the fact that Twilight's magic was still present to protect the three pony races from Opaline, the ponies didn't stop aging at their normal rate. However one thing I'm worried about is if Sunny will continue to age like every pony else or like an Alicorn. Also Elder Flower said something about Dawn bats and I immediately thought if she was talking about Luster Dawn too and not just Twilight, because that would make a lot more sense.
I have no idea why people are so hung up on four "greats". Newspony mentioned thousands of moons, Argyle mentioned 10 generations, Opaline mentioned hundreds of moons, and it is explicitly mentioned as "ancient" Equestria, not "old".
But nope, gotta count "greats", even though it's usually just means "many".

I love Zipp and her whole detective plotline, but I honestly feel like that should've gone to Sunny? I feel like Sunny should've been the one to look into threats and magic and the history of Equestria. Sunny was such an active protagonist in the movie but in the show it feels like she barely does anything, and when she does she wasn't the one to take initiative.
Also the old mare in episode 4 recognizes the hat a mare had on saying that its vintage and is from the carousel Boutique.

If you look closely, the locket the breezie gave to sunny in mane smelody seemed to be the rainbow of light from G1. Also I think that the not divided Equestria elder Flower remembers might be one a few years before the tribes divided but some years after Twilight's reign, as she doesn't seem to have any Memories about Twilight Sparkle. She just knows one of her ancestors was Moondancer
It's also quite possibly a different Moondancer, either named after an ancestor that being the original Moondancer, or the writers just forgot that name was in G4.

I think the show started to get better but also way too late. Chapters 1-3 were so slow most fans just tuned out, which made Hasbro not confident to make another season of Make Your Mark and only focus on short Tell Your Tale stories. This happens when you start the show with a bang like G4 with Nightmaremoon.
Honestly the series went down so much that I'm more hyped waiting for Strikers review of a chapter, than for an actual chapter.
This is my mood now tbh, and I'm 1 month late, and I came for his review than watching the chapter myself 😅
Anyone else not liking how MYM is handling the songs? They appear first in the spootyfile and when they appear on the show they are incomplete.
mane family and it all take time were honestly a disappointment, the lyrics were so beautiful that when the characters sang it would be something super important it all take times even achieved a little but being cut in half ruined it, mane family didn't have any significant impact.
It seems like they first make songs and then think about some context, most of the songs seem like they could work as any song and not as music for the show.
I have so many theories about the weird things in the plot
1. The personality thing for cutie marks could be a misunderstanding of cutie marks passes down from generation to generation
2. Maybe Misty bringing friendship into the castle has cause the tree to be able to connect to the other with the name 5 being there in chapter 4 and Misty just being there texting her friends.
3 maybe there actually is something hidden in the bat story being a metaphor for something and they missed it because they didn’t do what Misty said to but then they talked about the together trees and that over all sound too clever

Elderflower did share a story about a bat named “Dawn”. (perhaps Luster Dawn? Idk) Then she said something along the lines like: one bat in Dawn’s group went bad or something so Dawn asked a spider (Twilight maybe) to trap the bad bat. Maybe this ‘bad bat’ was Opaline somehow; perhaps she met Luster’s friends and was in their friend group. This could explain how Opaline and her friends grew that Together tree. Hey, maybe what we know as Opaline’s castle could have originally been Luster’s friends group’s castle together (like Twilight’s crystal castle), where they grew the tree.

There were actually a lot more points I wanted to make, but this video would have been hours long. I had to cut quite a bit, but most of the points were either very small problems, or very small positives, so I suppose it's not too big of a deal. why not make a 2nd episode where you talk about those. id personaly be intrested (like i am in almost every single one of your videos)
"Nightmare on Mane Street" felt like a jumbled mess. Ponies not being excited for Nightmare Night activities was ridiculous. It is a holiday, they would be excited to celebrate it with different activities. Only later we learned Hitch planned too many activities with over two dozens of them. Not really shown before, but even then ponies would be excited to try out several of those. Also, Hitch was being a bit shy announcing things as a sheriff, showing they really push him into being Fluttershy...again. The golden bumpkin disappeared and was never found. Hitch promised a prize, but he had none prepared. Nothing is ever addressed in this hot mess of an episode.
Then there was the B plot about the Crystal Frighthouse. They mess it up seemingly, because they are too focused on their own things and Pipp wants to scare Misty who is not easily scared. Misty not easily being scared because she grew up with a villainess makes sense and would be enough plot for an episode. There was too much and too little time, so both plots ended up being shallow. It was infuriating though that the bats that didn't scare Misty before, did so at the end. It didn't work once, so it is not something that would easily work on her and more creativity would be appreciated. Heck, how about a lesson that it is fine to fail at scaring her, before scaring her or not scaring her in the end. Or how about hinting that she is not easily scared in the episode and go with the Hitch plot. That way there would be foreshadowing for the following Nightmare Night episode.
Oh, also no one ever bothered to inform Hitch or anypony else about the one stolen cutie mark. This should be a clear give away that Opaline can get out now. Stupid too, seeing how she went after the dragons after stealing one measly cutie mark. Like, what was the point? Sunny and co. should know about her escapades, because of the stolen cutie mark. Opaline is stupid, she should have gone secretly to the dragons to begin with!
If Twilight really lost to Opaline then the means they nerfed the HELL out of Twilight!
This is painful, I think we know how it could be or were excited for a wow factor only to be let down, this almost feels like 10yearold child writing a story with no reason or lore and the parent who makes animation said “this is great! Let’s make it, who cares about G4 logic and world building, let’s throw it out the window and make this”.
I think the cutie marks part broke me ;-;

I really liked this chapter, honestly. It was so fun! I enjoyed it as much as I did the last chapter, and dare I say, I enjoyed it as much as I did some episodes of G4.

My biggest problem with the show is just HOW LONG it’s taken to get to the point. Releasing in sporadic chapters with inconsistent episode amounts is literally only hurting the show.
Also, so much nothing happens.
I did feel like you had a too few many criticism (like the evolution from the cutesceniera to the cutie blossom bash - that would make sense to evolve over time and with everyone divided), but most of the criticisms were valid. This world building sucks.
Honestly, the way they drag the main plot for so long by using weird, pulled out of nowhere and incoherent events and situations, is what is most annoying for me. I think I would even prefer them to have episode that dont focus on the main plot at all, and just be kind of slice of life episode. If the goal is to fill time and they dont know how to do it with the main plot, i would prefer slice of life filler episode that aren’t necessarily related to the main plot. At least we wouldn’t have so many frustrating incoherences
The more I watch this series, the more convinced I am of being this an alternative universe.

Honestly I’m willing to give the Opaline arc a chance specifically because the world does genuinely seem very drained of the magic it once had (in g4) and having the main Alicorn villain also not be very powerful makes this angle more compelling. Cause either 1. The magic being less has nothing to do with opaline at all or 2. If opaline did do it she must have been forced to give up a lot of her own power as well. I’m just kind of really hoping they’re not going to go for what I’m afraid they are… 3. Twilight herself drained the world of magic ability to try and prevent a huge disaster (like the ones she solved in her youth) occurring whilst the ponies were in disharmony again. I bring this up as a possibility because the previous lore of twilight storing magic in the crystals could be evidence to suggest something like this..
I like to think Opaline was just a lackey of a more powerful and competent villain who actually defeated Twilight, but Twi took them with her. So Opaline just took all the credit.
"Family Trees" was fun, but Misty's so called sacrifice, while a great idea, was cheap. Doing something small being your cutie mark makes sense in g4 since it meant something bigger. Hell all pinkie pie did was throw a party, but it wasn’t just a little get together. The meaning of her mark was spreading happiness to those who needed it.

Elderflower has access to historic information preserved in Bridlewood so is likely quoting that. Furthermore, Elderflower is a bit batty, and so I'd take anything she says with a grain of salt. Given there is no concrete definition of a generation, that argument also doesn't work.
Furthermore, we do have confirmation that much longer than you suggest has passed. CanterLogic is described in the film as having been around for 30 moons, moon being consistently used to mean year in G5, and Opaline refers to not having seen Dragonfire in thousands of moons, so thousands of years have passed.

IMO the more people raise the issues with the stories, plot, world/lore inconsistencies, the more I ... well, I try to remain optimistic, that struggle gets amplified though. Seriously, if they want it to be a successor to G4, or take place in the same universe, they REALLY need to do some study sessions where they watch and study FiM - that way they can improve their chances of being able to do things that at least try to remain true to the established lore, OR steer changes in ways that would make SENSE relative to what has been established.
What makes it more annoying IMO is the fanboying over G5 to the point where some will accuse others of just not wanting G4 to end or some other malarky when that describing a part of the fandom that exists doesn't mean you can just accuse anyone else of that shit (nor would it negate specific criticisms). Seriously, this shit ... I've seen more toxicity toward peope who liked G4 and those who are cautiously optimistic, or even constructively critical of G5 than the other way around, contrary to what some will try to say, and it ... doesn't help anything, at all. If anything, it just drives people AWAY from wanting G5, and subsequent generations, to improve / be the best they can be. This in fighting, whether it be between people who like G4 and G5, G4+5 and those who like 3.5 and eariler, or WHATEVER combinations, doesn't help anyone.

The movie seem to imply Maretime Bay used to have ships and sailor services and stuff, and I kinda headcanon the seawall they built was defense against other pony races. I guess I have been wanting to see more adventures in the sea for the series due to their location.

So adding 3 more greats to the already large great grandaunt is a decently big deal. And in Equestria, with the exception of the alicorns, the oldest living relatives of any given generation seems to be grandparent. Granny Smith being pretty much our best example. Also noting Granny Smith, pony lifespans seem to be longer than humans, though, considering she only made it to grandparent before dying, rather than great grandparent, it seems

G4 will always be superior
Sometimes i think about how in just a short time we ourselves tend warp and misinterpreted meaning behind certain things and actions. It could be that they lost so much of their history that they had to reinvent certain concepts that they know exits but no longer know how they function.
I like this idea cuz in a away, if they find something feom the past that they want to bring back, its possible they would completely butcher it because they dont have the full picture of it anymore and we would see how they got their new ideas on how their own world works

I personally don't think Elder Flower was born when Equestria was united. The show implied that she could see the memories of her ancestors and/or outright hear her ancestors speaking to her, so she wasn't actually talking about her own experiences... at least that's what I think the show was telling us.

In my opinion, it’s not that this gen is bad it’s just.. the writers have uh- not the best ideas 😅 the chapters would make more sense if the writers had better ideas! But, who I want to talk about is.. Misty! Here’s why she’s the best (In my opinion) character in this series! She’s not only an interesting character.. but she’s also relatable to some of the viewers! (Like myself) for example, people who’s trying to be themselves, battling with childhood trauma, being manipulated by someone, or someone who’s trying to be a better person! Honestly, she’s the light of the whole series! She’s just an interesting character! And Alphabittle turning out to be Misty’s father was a big plot twist to me, and it was sweet on how they interacted! Thank you for reading lol
I genuinely love chapters 4 and 5. The earlier chapters felt a little simpler, whereas now we have developed Misty more, Opaline's actively making her move now rather than mwahahahaing a lot, and we're getting the heckin DRAGONS :D

I haven’t seen anyone talk about the significance of that locket. It is a direct callback to the rainbow light locket from G1. Since this series “supposedly” follows G4, all three shows might be connected. The implications of this are interesting for sure.

Kinda like in the first episode of chapter 5, misty talking to herself on the ride to zephyr heights, it just felt unreal and forced, the rest got better though, I like that a lot! If the voice acting keeps up the way it is now, it'll definitely be easier for me to watch. :)
I also don't think Elderflower literally remembers Canterlot Wedding. I mean is it even possible to be alive when your Great great great great aunt Moondancer is also alive and young?
Never would've guessed that Chapter 5 could be better than Chapter 4, but here we are! It was worth watching for Misty; she really grew on me and her character arc is, dare I say it, more believable that Starlight's was in FiM.
However, my biggest concern is that MYM picked up momentum at the very end. I mean, there are only three episodes and a special left to wrap up everything. I wonder if they can pull that off - most likely resulting in a rushed ending - or they'll push everything onto the much inferior Tell Your Tale that sports a format not suitable for more complex and mature storytelling. Guess we'll see in November.
I did enjoy chapter 5, Misty pretty much carries the show now for me. also Opaline is pretty much a joke, at this point I half expect the final battle between Opaline and Sunny to end with Opaline tripping on a rug and falling down a set of stairs
That was a very entertaining review.
I think Elder Flower mentions those events like the Canterlot Wedding as if they were her own memories, but they are actually memories passed to her by oral tradition. So this doesn't change much about the timeline of the show. It is "many moons" after the events of G4 and that's it.
Regardless, it is still insulting that they imply that all of Equestria fell because of Opaline, and then write Opaline to be so stupid and incompetent. That's one of the big problems of G5 for me. But given that the mane 5 didn't even know they hadn't defeated her, I guess she has to be this way for them to have any chance against her. My new headcanon/coping mechanism is that she developed dementia over the years, and the ponies had their minds scrambled by Twilight's bubble spell somehow, and so everyone kind of operates at a lower level compared to G4.

I think cutiemarks still work the old way (show purpose), but are now just interpreted differently
There were also characters in generation 4 who had their cutiemark decoded differently over time. Twilight's little stars denoted her friends from the future. Starlight's cutiemark is in the same style as her future mentor's cutiemark. Sunset Shimmer became a phoenix as an adult (and so on)
It's likely that Sunny's comet, Hitch's shield, and Zipp and Pipp's crowns marked their fate, not their best quality. And as children, they were interpreted in this way as the most obvious (except for Zipp and Pipp, since they knew from the beginning that they were destined to rule)
So Misty didn't understand for a long time why she got the butterfly in the first place. Change isn't her talent, it's her destiny. She went from a bright and loud child to a frightened and quiet adult. Now her goal will be to change back and become open again
I think it's also necessary to hit on the theme of the message in these episodes, because not only do they talk about the changes of kidnapping victims in a childish way, but they also make Hitch start to think about how he's going to experience separation from Sparky when he has to be brought home!!!!! I love that despite the show's childishness, they are trying to raise serious issues and draw parallels
The introduction of exact timelines also seems wise to me. Twilight's decision was wrong, but I can believe its realistic if she remained under-experienced as a ruler. Since Opaline had a together tree, if Twilight died, it really couldn't be allowed to have magic in ponies or together trees in the world. Not only does this provide a logical answer to the "where are the other locations from g4" question (beyond the dome), but it also opens up a huge world for the characters to explore. Dragonlands is the first of the new locations
Don't even try to tell me that in a conditional 60 years ponies couldn't forget friendship and create prejudices towards those they can't contact. I live in Russia, I know it's possible and in a much shorter period of time
I on the contrary have questions for episode 5, because it had a very specific situation, the correctness of the message of which was indicated by small details that children are not able to understand. "Always tell your friend the truth" is a bad message, since you have to be able to separate truth from rudeness. Jazz didn't insult Pipp just because the flower was really stinky. But if we hadn't been shown the public reaction, told the name of the flower, and brought in the neutralizer at the end, it would have been an episode about how Jazz doesn't like the scent, so she tells Pipp that it stinks. And it's kinda rude.
Personally I liked this chapter especially when misty reunited with her father and pipp and Izzy are psychos at times as usually. Just mindless stupid fun to forget the BS of life😂

I think the reason cutie marks make no sense in g5 is because of magic being gone for so long that the cutie mark magic escaped from the crystals and for being locked away for so long it sort of changed its way of appearing since it was locked away and i think ever since martime bay day's crystal disaster, it might have messed with cutie mark magic even more, making it like wishing lantern!
10:07 Trees grow from the top, not the bottom, and kids shows would usually want to get that sort of detail right so they can claim to be educational. I think a better fix might be to have it blocked from the ground by something other than moss so you actually could see it from the air
13:02: If you do some math on numbers in G4 that you are absolutely not supposed to do math to, you find that Granny Smith is hundreds of years old. If we don’t want to say that nopony dies of old age (which would solve the time problem but open up a problem of it being harder for so much history to be lost), then we should probably instead not take the exact number of “great”s literally. In a line right before that she said she had the memories of her ancestors, which might be just a her thing. Alternately, she went to a completely different changeling wedding well after S2 of FiM.

"EVERYPONY IS UNIQUE!!!" Me watching the nightmare moon scene from "Friendship Is Magic Part 2" Where the animators just copied over the background ponies like 6 times. If you don't believe me, go watch it!
Oh- it's far more than this one scene, actually! The animators were copying and pasting constantly throughout the show. Pretty much any time there is a crowd, primarily in earlier seasons, you are bound to see at least a few clones. 😆
"Father of the Bridlewood" was alright, but I feel Alphabittle should have at least been right with one of the activities instead of all of them being wrong. She should have liked something from her childhood still. Not my biggest gripe with the episode though. That goes to the end of the episode, where Misty's dad decided, she can live with her friends and Misty also agrees along with her friends which doesn't make a lick of sense. They just found each other. They should spend more time together than a day, to truly reconnect. Misty can move in a few seasons down the line. This episode gave them no time to grow together as much as they needed to be.
Also, what about him finding out she is a double agent for Opaline? How about some fatherly worry and conflict as he doesn't want her to endanger herself. Also also, what about Misty having to deal with her double agent life? Her being out constantly would draw attention from Opaline. All of this is handled extremely poorly. There is a lot of material for episodes right there. Heck, if they went with the Opaline as a caring mother idea, this could cause a conflict between two different parents as well! And where is Misty's mother? Her being not around anymore could be an interesting topic as well, in case her mother was still alive when she got lost. So much wasted potential!

The age thing in MLP is always a hard issue, remember how old Granny Smith was, there when Ponyville was founded, and Per Twilight's Ponyville was hundreds of years old when she arrived there. So it could be hundreds of years since G4.
Tirek was able to take magic from an EMBODIMENT OF CHAOS (sure, he was taken off guard because he was emotionally taken advantage off, but still!) THAT shown us that he was a real threat because the only thing we've seen overpowering Discord before were ELEMENTS OF HARMONY that he was capable of beating sometimes too! So... yeah, they just didn't even try in G5...

The locket Sunny receives is the one given to Megan in G1 that contains the Rainbow of Light. Which means that it will be what truly defeats Opaline. So I am also wondering if the Rainbow of Darkness is in Opaline's possession somehow.
Omfg! The rainbow of light is released and all these stupid horned and winged animals are revealed to be the lost generation of ponies since part of what the rainbow of darkness did was change ponies into other things! ….nah, they’re not clever enough for that.
