I currently own the 70-180, and it's my favorate lense so far. However having to change lenses during shot is such a pain. I am thinking about selling both 24-70 and 70-180, and convert to 24 prime + 35-150. Anyway, 70mm is far from enough for my style, while 150 is going to be ok. though I might need to reach for the 24 every now and then, hopefully 35-150 could satisfy me for most of my work.
I bought the 70-180 for sports and used it often for couples. I decided to sell it and bought the 35-150 bc i dont mind giving up thr 150-180. I want the 35 so i dont have to switch lens or use 2 bodies. I have a sigma 120-300 if i need anything longer than 150
Tamron 70-180 f2.8 is perfect combo with the 16-35 f2.8 GM or the 24-70 f2.8 Sigma Art lens literally for everything. Also the 70-180 has great 1:2 macro capabilities at 70mm with manual focus.
Another great comparison! Just came back from borabora with a74, 24GM, 35-150, I do figure out that 70-80% of time I use 35-150, and I am very happy with it other than it’s weight, 24GM prefectly covered the wild angle I need or 1.4 I need. Thank you so much for every suggestion you provided. Also got the 10L bag :) one for all :)
For hours now I´ve been looking at YT reviews to decide, which one of these I should get to complement my Tamron 20-40 (which I find very useful and due to the long end range more compelling at family vacations than the - without a question also excellent! - 17-28) I am unsure if I should leave a gap as big as 40-70 (which I could address of course by switching to APS-C mode with the 20-40 in case I desperately need it) or take the heavier, more expensive 35-150 with the extra price on loosing 30 mm at the long end... All that being said, I really just wanted to leave a note that your comparison was by far the _most_ helpful review I´ve found - and that includes YT channels with 100k+ subscribers ;) So: Thank you, and splendid job!!! (BTW, I decided to go with the 35-150 because a) it´s easier to crop 150 to 180 if needed than 40 to 70 (thank you for mentioning the negligible field of view difference at the long end!), and because b) my dream setup will be the soon to be released 7C-R with the rumored A7Rm5 sensor and the 20-40, and my actual a7rm3 with the 35-150. Both cameras will complement each other while remaining very versatile on their own.)
Don't own any of these lenses, but I do have the Tamron 28-200. As a landscape photographer I find it superb. It most likely doesn't match any of these regarding IQ, but it wouldn't be too far behind either. It's still very sharp and super versatile with its focal span of 28-200mm. Also a lot lighter than the lenses in this video, and cheaper. If I wouldn't mind switching lenses in the wilderness and if weight, price, and space was nothing to consider I'd be happy with any of these bad boys.
@@CharlieVN That will be great!I Second edc's comments about the 28-200! I picked it up on sale and I haven't had the the 28-75 back on the camera since.- or my Sony 70-200 f.4! When I finally go on the trip that got cancelled in March 2020, I will be taking the the 28-200, along with the 17-28 and a fast prime with my a7c for a travel friendly kit .
@@chryseass.5143 That's the combo I will most likely go for, the 17-28 with the 28-200. Lightweight, sharp, and as a bonus the same filter size on both lenses. Also looking forward to the future comparison video. I expect the 28-200 to be more or less on par with the 24-105 on IQ. Sure, it's losing 4mm at the wide end but it also has a massive additional 95mm on the long end. The 28-75 G2 will be sharper and faster, but the thing with the 28-200 is that it's on a level where it's more than sharp enough for my needs. Low light performance could be better when zoomed in (though it starts at f/2.8 at the wide end), but I use a tripod and rarely shoot in the middle of the night or when there's very little light. Those occasions are the only ones when I switch to my 28-75 G1, since it's faster and can blur out backgrounds with its f/2.8 throughout the zoom range.
Do you think this will be overkill to have this on apsc body? I currently have the tamron 17 to 70. Should i just keep it and add the 70-180 or sell my 17-70 and just buy 35-150?
Weight was a big factor for me choosing the 70-180. I replaced a Sony 70-200 GM with it due to the Sony being so heavy it was hard to shoot hand held and keep steady for any extended period. The 35-150 is 50% heavier so not sure it would have been a good resolution to the issue though the wider end certainly makes it more of an all in one.
I think 70-180 is as heavy and big as I am willing to hold in my hand with the a74, so that more than images or anything else, will determine I am keeping the 70-18] and getting 28-75g2
I actually hate rubberised focus rings. They’re impossible to keep clean. Geared metal rings for the win, but I’d even take plastic rings over sticky rubber. Also rubber rings can get you in trouble with focus gear in some lenses.
@@chryseass.5143 one wide angle lens and one telephoto probably weigh the same as this one lens if not more. The Tamron 28-300 is ok except for the f5.6 on the tele end.
@@IMDABROWN I agree but the beauty is that with the lighter 28-200 I don't have all that weight on the camera all the time nor do I need to carry all the lenses at the same time if I know I won't need the full range.
