Klaw Schafer In Crimson Flower, Edelgard briefly reprimands Byleth for being away for five years and causing some heartbreak for her, but calms down and hugs Byleth, due to her being happy to see them.
Well he lost his throne, his friends, his teacher and got captured then thought his best friend (Dedue) got killed. He has nothing left but the brute strength from his crest, the only thing he could do is to kill.
Tbh in dimitri's defence, if byleth was alive the whole time during that five year span, I'm pretty sure anyone would be suspicious of what byleth was doing. I think it was more of a fact that Dimitri doesn't know who's an ally at this point, but he at least knows who his enemy is.
Also in Dimitri's defense, the man's suffering from extreme symptoms of untreated PTSD, plus 5 years of no human contact with nothing but Edelgard murder in the brain.
Dimitri has probably the most emotional route out of them all, escpecially late game. Also, there is soooooo much imagery in this cutscene. The light only partially touching his face signifying that the kindhearted Dimitri is still there begging to be released after so many years of sadness and pain.

Same. I wanted to go with Black Eagles before, but changed my mind after the post-timeskip trailer. Now, I'm playing through Black Eagles and it's really painful facing Blue Lions especially Dimitri.
I honestly thought Dimitri (based on the cutscenes we see) was going to be some kind of bandit king post timeskip, and he was going to be the true villain. Imagine my surprise when Edelgard turns out to be the "villain" (depending on who you ask).
Omg I didn’t notice it before he assumed that byleth’s disappearance aka “death” was because of Edelgard im sad!!! He lived those 5 years wondering and waiting for his teacher’s ghost to haunt him too :(
I feel that the more concerned stares, gazes, and looks you give as Byleth are all in Dimitri's route. I wish Byleth was more voiced in this route, I feel it would have been even *more* impactful during the many scenes like these in the route.
It hits harder with Dimitri compared to the other two. Claude will always be fine in the end and Edelgard does manage to conquer most of Fodlan at that point, but Dimitri...lost everything. He simply becomes an empty shell, a husk of someone who once stand with pride. And this is why I see Byleth a more important person to Dimitri than the other lords. He needs them, he needs us to function like a human again
I played the Golden Deer route first and the reunion is so hopeful in that route. I cried when I did the Blue Lion route. I was expecting something so radiant, and seeing Dimitri so broken... the contrast was just heartbreaking.

You know, you gotta give props to Byleth. In the first cutscene he sees an army of soldiers heading his way and his first instinct was to be the one to intercept the army (And by himself no less)
True, to be fair, he's the single strongest being on the planet. Wielding the Sword of the Creator makes you able to level armies with ease. Just look at the cutscene of Seiros vs. Nemesis when you open the game. Single swings of the empowered blade cleave through dozens of men without resistance. Combine this offensive power with Sothis's willing bestowal of all her Godly power unto you. Byleth effectively has omnipotent foresight. He's arguably hard-nerfed in gameplay. Byleth could solo the entire planet in a cutscene and it'd be canonically accurate. God knows why he didn't just reverse time after getting knocked off the cliff.

Claude notes after the initial transformation that the professor passing out is a byproduct of overdoing it with goddess powers, so Byleth can't spam it. I guess the game hopes for you to have used most or all of the pulses in combat.
I also gotta give him props for actually being able to save Rhea. I feel that in any other RPG this would've been the scene where the protagonist is pitted against impossible odds and can only watch helplessly as his mentor/beloved figured is killed to save him. Byleth however just said "fuck that shit" and went for it. Even Rhea was surprised that he actually went to help her lol.
BL was the first path I toke and I’ll be honest. I thought Dimitri was alright at first and I didn’t think much of him.... then the 5 year time skip happened and now he is my all time favorite character in the game. Sort of sucks though that he got shafted in the three other stories...
Well I wouldn’t say he gets shafted in Black Eagles, he has actual impact there. Golden Deer and Church though go something like “Dimitri sees big army he knows he can’t defeat and Naruto runs into it”
@@jeremytewari3346 Dimitri actually has a slightly larger role on silver snow than verdant wind. He's truly shafted in VW. Spoilers for silver snow: Dimitri's spirit visits Byleth post Gronder. He needed to see Byleth one more time to seek the guidance he needed to move on into the afterlife. Seteth explains that Byleth acted as a spiritual guide for Dimitri to finally be able to rest. It's a really small but moving scene that VW completely left out.
Older Dimitri reminds me so much of Guts from Berserk. Both are missing their right eye, are incredibly strong, bloodthirsty (at least at the start of the timeskip portion of the Blue Lions route and the Black Swordsmen arc, respectively), and are on a quest of revenge against their white haired, former friend turned enemy (i.e. Edelgard and Griffith)
I can see the comparison too. It goes even further since both Guts and Dimitri had one parental figure (Gambino and Dimitri's stepmother) who placed them in harm's way without a thought to their safety. And both need to be taken out of their dark mindsets by their comrades (new for Guts and old for Dimitri).
@@Wolfboss7 something else I've noticed, if you romance Dimitri with female Byleth, then both his and Gut's love interests are mercenaries. I wonder if Intsys took inspiration from Berserk or if all these similarities are just coincidental.
Their character arcs also have both Dimitri and Guts realizing that the lives of their friends are much more important than revenge. Guts and Dimitri both hate themselves early in their arcs, and while neither one learns to love themselves they do learn to love their friends.

Oh. It just hit me. What Dimitri was saying when he first sees Byleth is that he eventually knew that Byleth would show up as one of the many ghosts haunting him. *Damn* that's fucking tragic. His route is fucking emotionally investing.
The way this game uses music is so damn good I cannot even explain, like how “Unfulfilled” plays when light shines on Dimitris face. It makes it so sad but so happy at the same time
As a teacher myself and someone who has some feelings like Dimitrii, I love this route and him as a character. I love how this route shows how much Byleth would help Dimitrii, cause I want to be a teacher who always be there for my students in bad situations as well.
Byleth was the light in the darkness that surrounded Dimitri. You could even see the sorrow in Byleth's eyes when he saw Dimitri for the first time. Fuck this broke me.
Rhea isn't a dragon. The only dragon in FE3H is Sothis. Rhea, Seteth, the turtle and the mechas are qualified as dragons because they have been created by or use the power of Sothis. Rhea is the youngest of the first-gen Children of the Goddess, so it is normal she is the one that looks the most like a dragon.
My favorite path is Golden Deer. For me, it has an excellent story where you defeat Edelgard and those who slither in the night. And, well, it has Claude so.

Honestly I'm so glad I chose Blue Lions first. The tone's just so different compared to the other routes that sets the scene in the timeskip, and I remember when I saw Dimitri, I instantly felt like I'd failed him. The different battle music at the start of the fight scene after that only reaffirmed that feeling of regret but also determination to fix things and make them right. Three Houses really is something else tbh
I was really scared of playing blue lions because i played black eagle first & was really attached to edelgard but lowkey as soon as this cutscene happened i didnt feel bad for edelgard anymore i just wanted to help dimitri
It honestly feels like Fates was a weird transition period between Awakening and Three Houses, like the Wii U was the weird transition period between the Wii and the Switch. If Fates had been given a bit more time to polish, it probably would have been exactly like Three Houses.

Recently got to this part and it hit me hard. It reminded me of that one Teen Titans episode where Starfire got flung into the future and saw the other titans older, but defeated down to their core. Just made me go: "Damn....what did they do to you Dimitri?
I adore this game and both BL and GD but can we please agree that got Dimitri got shorted on gd? (Spoilers) Edelgard gets her own map and cutscene for her death and dimitri gets an offscreen death like "yeah he rushed in and was killed" like tf? Really gonna give one of this games best characters that for his death?
Interesting to note that every route but Edelgard's gets an animated cinematic for Byleth failing off the cliff into a coma, while Edelgard's route gets a bunch of people in the conversation style set thing shouting what's happening at the camera. Interesting that for such an important plot point that happens in all four they consciously chose to not script out an animated scene that could be used in all four routes that they could just bookend with route exclusive stuff and instead chose to leave one route with it literally happening off screen with people shouting at the camera. That one route being the one they spend nearly every other moment in the Black Eagles route telling you to take. And it's the shortest, most half-assed route in the game. Because apparently telling us every five minutes that Rhea is a villain and taking every chance to justify Edelgard's shady actions means we should side with Rhea against Edelgard. That or suffer through a route they practically released unfinished. Seriously. Edelgard literally gets her promotion to the Master Class version of her lord class IN THE MAIL with only a single text box. No big resolve moment that unlocks a new power, no scene in which she decides she needs an upgrade. No mention of the new state in the plot. Not even a freaking conversation where people deliver it. Just a freaking single pop up box. Sorry I went off on a tangent there.
I felt something like that too. I dont know if others FE games have routes too, but here, after finishing red and blue i feel like it was supposed to be one whole story. And least sth like that was in someone's head. You clearly can see it after beating those housed. Dunno whats going on Yellow route though.

To animate a different scene, before Byleth falls down a cliff, with Edelgard by her/his side instead of Rhea in the other routes would cost more- they would be able to project their time into other parts of the game and have more money left over. This bothers me as well. I wish they put more effort in this path. It made me very disappointed to find out that Edelgard’s journey is shorter than the others.
Totally agree with you my guy. I dont even particularly like Edelgard or her route, but I still feel cheated on behalf of her fans. For a game that is really good at morally grey characters, it feels like the writers were picking favorites with the sides you should choose.
I agree with you 50000% and I think that most of the internet does, too. Honestly, I think they rushed Edelgard's route, for whatever bizarre-ass reason. I think they meant for the Church route to be the only route (which also makes no sense because that route basically just plagiarized Golden Deer, and I refuse to believe that Golden Deer stole Church route because Golden Deer is so well-written and put together, not as emotional as Blue Lions but it does its job and does it well), and then went "oh shit" when they saw how people reacted to not being able to virtual-marry her. (Not to mention the amount of people, like myself, who would have been pissed at losing two units that you spent time and effort training up and building support with, without any option to keep them.) Which is such a shame, I sided with Edelgard (she was my second play through so yes I knew she was a villain but I like her a heck of a lot better than Rhea) and honestly was disappointed by the missed potential, and the fact that THIS was the house and the route the marketing was SUPPOSED to make us all want to play, and we got absolute shit for it. Didn't even get to take out Those Who Slither in the Dark, which makes no sense, considering how influential they are to Edelgard's character. I get that they wanted Rhea to be the final boss, but it's not like Thales is the final boss in either Church or Golden Deer route, so, they could've shoved him in there somehow. 2/10, Nintendo. Also your comment about how we get her lord class "in the mail" cracked me up. I thought that maybe Claude's was also thrust upon him but then I remembered, wait, we met up with Nader and that's why he got his master class. RIGHT. So there was that, at least.
Dimitri in BL timeskip: crazy revenge obsessed jerk Claude in GD timeskip: still sane and not quite as mean Edelgard in BE (Crimson Flower): Mentally healthier than Dimitri was in BL, but not as much as Claude. Basically in the middle ground. Edelgard in Silver Snow timeskip: “Goodbye, my teacher. When next we meet one of us will breath their last.” (Worse than in Crimson Flower)

It is all because of the different paths with balance outcome. Nothing better than others. If there is the best ending in DLC will just kill all the discussion and all goodwill.

Edelgard: Used for experiment, went through torture, and that’s the reason for her white hair (used to be brown..) don’t remember if she had a second crest.. :( Dimitri: Amazing life until teen years, with all his family members and friends die in front of him, going on a massacre. :( Claude: Not accepted into any kingdom, fought, stole, and argued with the guards because of his race, quite tragic honestly, it’s also sad because everything he says connects with his backstory. :(

I join the black eagles became the resistance than killed edelgard but while I was playing they said dimitri was killed. I was so mad blinded by rage after I killed the dark Risen niggas. I join the blue lions and see that the blue lions is the best team. Btw just was done playing the golden deer route it’s lit how you get to kill nemesis with Claude . this genuinely makes me sad during the 5 years byleth was missing, dimitri lost everything and everyone, he’s now become a monster with his only reason of existence to kill edelgard, then, when he sees the only friendly face in 5 years, the only person that loves and cares for him, he mistakes them for a ghost coming to haunt him until she died. i also like what MisterEpicface said, in the cutscene, when he looks up at byleth, there is a little bit of light shining on his face, symbolising there is still the happy, friendly dimitri hiding inside that shell of that body, but the monster controlling him refuses to let him out. this is truly an incredible game
Getting to this part was really painful to watch. You really got to know the young man during the first half of the game and its awful what happened to him after you disappeared. I remember watching this scene thinking about how he was such a good and kind soul when you were his professor. Really shows that even the purest of us are capable of beibg consumed by darkness
Most emotional route and therefore definitely my fav. Even though, BL is the route that answers the least questions, the characters make up for that. Golden Deer is probably the closest to canon, though
@@yang6642 Blue Lions has more cutscenes that matter tho. Scenes that are more meaningful to the plot. Like the flame emperor reveal which no other route has. By contrast, Golden Deer has a pointless cutscene of Claude pretending to fight Nader ... Which doesn't add much at all. It's just them playacting. Golden Deer also reused about 3 silver snow cutscenes. Only maybe 2 cutscenes are unique to Golden Deer alone. And of those, 1 of which has half of a cutscene from silver snow as well.

Not exactly. While in Fates they thread Hoshido more like good guys, it looks than in TH none of the Houses are actually fully good. For what I have seen every one of them have their good and bad sides and reasons to do what they are doing
My first game was with the blue route, and god this moment was good! You discover that new Dimitri, which you know is a bloody killer and protecter of this place, and you find him completely broken. You feel how surprised he is when the ghost he has in front of him doesn't yell at him to kill Edelgard and you can only imagine how he must have felt these five years. Then you speak to him, and find out how really destroyed he is and how the only thing that he's looking for is revenge and you go just for that in this new chapter. And you start this chapter, just him and Blyeth to "hunt some rats" with this brand new music of the game... All of this is just a masterpiece. I just wish I could forget this in order to feel these emotions again. That was so good.

I honestly thought Dimitri (based on the cutscenes we see) was going to be some kind of bandit king post timeskip, and he was going to be the true villain. Imagine my surprise when Edelgard turns out to be the "villain" (depending on who you ask).

I feel that the more concerned stares, gazes, and looks you give as Byleth are all in Dimitri's route. I wish Byleth was more voiced in this route, I feel it would have been even *more* impactful during the many scenes like these in the route.
It hits harder with Dimitri compared to the other two. Claude will always be fine in the end and Edelgard does manage to conquer most of Fodlan at that point, but Dimitri...lost everything. He simply becomes an empty shell, a husk of someone who once stand with pride. And this is why I see Byleth a more important person to Dimitri than the other lords. He needs them, he needs us to function like a human again

I played the Golden Deer route first and the reunion is so hopeful in that route. I cried when I did the Blue Lion route. I was expecting something so radiant, and seeing Dimitri so broken... the contrast was just heartbreaking.
That was definitely me in the Crimson Flower route. I can feel the difference in the reunions between Edelgard and Dimitri.

You know, you gotta give props to Byleth. In the first cutscene he sees an army of soldiers heading his way and his first instinct was to be the one to intercept the army (And by himself no less)
True, to be fair, he's the single strongest being on the planet. Wielding the Sword of the Creator makes you able to level armies with ease. Just look at the cutscene of Seiros vs. Nemesis when you open the game. Single swings of the empowered blade cleave through dozens of men without resistance.
Combine this offensive power with Sothis's willing bestowal of all her Godly power unto you. Byleth effectively has omnipotent foresight. He's arguably hard-nerfed in gameplay. Byleth could solo the entire planet in a cutscene and it'd be canonically accurate. God knows why he didn't just reverse time after getting knocked off the cliff.

Claude notes after the initial transformation that the professor passing out is a byproduct of overdoing it with goddess powers, so Byleth can't spam it. I guess the game hopes for you to have used most or all of the pulses in combat.
I also gotta give him props for actually being able to save Rhea. I feel that in any other RPG this would've been the scene where the protagonist is pitted against impossible odds and can only watch helplessly as his mentor/beloved figured is killed to save him. Byleth however just said "fuck that shit" and went for it. Even Rhea was surprised that he actually went to help her lol.

BL was the first path I toke and I’ll be honest. I thought Dimitri was alright at first and I didn’t think much of him.... then the 5 year time skip happened and now he is my all time favorite character in the game. Sort of sucks though that he got shafted in the three other stories...
Well I wouldn’t say he gets shafted in Black Eagles, he has actual impact there. Golden Deer and Church though go something like “Dimitri sees big army he knows he can’t defeat and Naruto runs into it”

Dimitri actually has a slightly larger role on silver snow than verdant wind. He's truly shafted in VW. Spoilers for silver snow:
Dimitri's spirit visits Byleth post Gronder. He needed to see Byleth one more time to seek the guidance he needed to move on into the afterlife. Seteth explains that Byleth acted as a spiritual guide for Dimitri to finally be able to rest. It's a really small but moving scene that VW completely left out.
Older Dimitri reminds me so much of Guts from Berserk. Both are missing their right eye, are incredibly strong, bloodthirsty (at least at the start of the timeskip portion of the Blue Lions route and the Black Swordsmen arc, respectively), and are on a quest of revenge against their white haired, former friend turned enemy (i.e. Edelgard and Griffith)

It goes even further since both Guts and Dimitri had one parental figure (Gambino and Dimitri's stepmother) who placed them in harm's way without a thought to their safety. And both need to be taken out of their dark mindsets by their comrades (new for Guts and old for Dimitri).

And Later Both Gave Up Their Thrist For Revenge.
Their character arcs also have both Dimitri and Guts realizing that the lives of their friends are much more important than revenge.
Guts and Dimitri both hate themselves early in their arcs, and while neither one learns to love themselves they do learn to love their friends.

Honestly I'm so glad I chose Blue Lions first. The tone's just so different compared to the other routes that sets the scene in the timeskip, and I remember when I saw Dimitri, I instantly felt like I'd failed him. The different battle music at the start of the fight scene after that only reaffirmed that feeling of regret but also determination to fix things and make them right. Three Houses really is something else tbh

Edelgard gets her own map and cutscene for her death and dimitri gets an offscreen death like "yeah he rushed in and was killed" like tf? Really gonna give one of this games best characters that for his death?
Actually the Edelgard death on VW is the copy paste of her death in SS. Because she calls Byleth her teacher, which she only does on CF and SS.
Interesting to note that every route but Edelgard's gets an animated cinematic for Byleth failing off the cliff into a coma, while Edelgard's route gets a bunch of people in the conversation style set thing shouting what's happening at the camera. Interesting that for such an important plot point that happens in all four they consciously chose to not script out an animated scene that could be used in all four routes that they could just bookend with route exclusive stuff and instead chose to leave one route with it literally happening off screen with people shouting at the camera.
That one route being the one they spend nearly every other moment in the Black Eagles route telling you to take. And it's the shortest, most half-assed route in the game. Because apparently telling us every five minutes that Rhea is a villain and taking every chance to justify Edelgard's shady actions means we should side with Rhea against Edelgard. That or suffer through a route they practically released unfinished. Seriously. Edelgard literally gets her promotion to the Master Class version of her lord class IN THE MAIL with only a single text box. No big resolve moment that unlocks a new power, no scene in which she decides she needs an upgrade. No mention of the new state in the plot. Not even a freaking conversation where people deliver it. Just a freaking single pop up box.

I felt something like that too. I dont know if others FE games have routes too, but here, after finishing red and blue i feel like it was supposed to be one whole story. And least sth like that was in someone's head. You clearly can see it after beating those housed. Dunno whats going on Yellow route though.

To animate a different scene, before Byleth falls down a cliff, with Edelgard by her/his side instead of Rhea in the other routes would cost more- they would be able to project their time into other parts of the game and have more money left over.
This bothers me as well. I wish they put more effort in this path. It made me very disappointed to find out that Edelgard’s journey is shorter than the others.
Totally agree with you my guy. I dont even particularly like Edelgard or her route, but I still feel cheated on behalf of her fans. For a game that is really good at morally grey characters, it feels like the writers were picking favorites with the sides you should choose.

I agree with you 50000% and I think that most of the internet does, too. Honestly, I think they rushed Edelgard's route, for whatever bizarre-ass reason. I think they meant for the Church route to be the only route (which also makes no sense because that route basically just plagiarized Golden Deer, and I refuse to believe that Golden Deer stole Church route because Golden Deer is so well-written and put together, not as emotional as Blue Lions but it does its job and does it well), and then went "oh shit" when they saw how people reacted to not being able to virtual-marry her. (Not to mention the amount of people, like myself, who would have been pissed at losing two units that you spent time and effort training up and building support with, without any option to keep them.) Which is such a shame, I sided with Edelgard (she was my second play through so yes I knew she was a villain but I like her a heck of a lot better than Rhea) and honestly was disappointed by the missed potential, and the fact that THIS was the house and the route the marketing was SUPPOSED to make us all want to play, and we got absolute shit for it. Didn't even get to take out Those Who Slither in the Dark, which makes no sense, considering how influential they are to Edelgard's character. I get that they wanted Rhea to be the final boss, but it's not like Thales is the final boss in either Church or Golden Deer route, so, they could've shoved him in there somehow. 2/10, Nintendo.
Also your comment about how we get her lord class "in the mail" cracked me up. I thought that maybe Claude's was also thrust upon him but then I remembered, wait, we met up with Nader and that's why he got his master class. RIGHT. So there was that, at least.

I think Rhea's "Why did you come?" was because she entrusted the protection of the people whose homes would be in her blast radius to Byleth.

during the 5 years byleth was missing, dimitri lost everything and everyone, he’s now become a monster with his only reason of existence to kill edelgard, then, when he sees the only friendly face in 5 years, the only person that loves and cares for him, he mistakes them for a ghost coming to haunt him until she died. i also like what MisterEpicface said, in the cutscene, when he looks up at byleth, there is a little bit of light shining on his face, symbolising there is still the happy, friendly dimitri hiding inside that shell of that body, but the monster controlling him refuses to let him out. this is truly an incredible game

Getting to this part was really painful to watch. You really got to know the young man during the first half of the game and its awful what happened to him after you disappeared. I remember watching this scene thinking about how he was such a good and kind soul when you were his professor. Really shows that even the purest of us are capable of beibg consumed by darkness

Blue Lions has more cutscenes that matter tho. Scenes that are more meaningful to the plot. Like the flame emperor reveal which no other route has. By contrast, Golden Deer has a pointless cutscene of Claude pretending to fight Nader ... Which doesn't add much at all. It's just them playacting.
Golden Deer also reused about 3 silver snow cutscenes. Only maybe 2 cutscenes are unique to Golden Deer alone. And of those, 1 of which has half of a cutscene from silver snow as well.

My first game was with the blue route, and god this moment was good!
You discover that new Dimitri, which you know is a bloody killer and protecter of this place, and you find him completely broken.
You feel how surprised he is when the ghost he has in front of him doesn't yell at him to kill Edelgard and you can only imagine how he must have felt these five years.
Then you speak to him, and find out how really destroyed he is and how the only thing that he's looking for is revenge and you go just for that in this new chapter.
And you start this chapter, just him and Blyeth to "hunt some rats" with this brand new music of the game...
All of this is just a masterpiece. I just wish I could forget this in order to feel these emotions again. That was so good.
