"I think it's a about a trip", yes in more ways than one. I you didn't know, DMT naturally occurs from a certain species of toad, and is often actually called "the toad", so when he licks the toad in the video and the beat switches, that can be interpreted as a physcadelic trip. He also mentions Ayauasca in the first verse which if i'm not mistaken also contains a form of DMT and grows in south america and can be taken legally in peru, so many people take a trip, to "trip". Aesop has written about psycadelic experiences in the past, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's experienced DMT and Ayauasca and that's what partially inspired this "field guide", as well as 100 other things as it's Aes.
After something like 50 listens all the way through this album, 'Pizza Alley' definitely stands out as one of the best tracks on this album.

First of all, NEVER LICK THE TOAD, YOU GONNA GET SICK OR DIE. What you do is squeeze the toad's venom glands, gather the resulting goo, dry it up and smoke it. And it contains both DMT (the "spirit molecule") and 5MeODMT (the "God molecule"). Said toad is the Sonoran Desert Toad, which you only find in the Sonoran Desert.
Second of all, this song is about an Ayahuasca trip, which has nothing to do with toads. It's a brew made of some plants, some have DMT, others make that DMT "digestible" to humans. If you only take the DMT containing ones you're not gonna feel anything, as far as I know.
Bonus point: "Witch doctors pouring amphibians out the blender" is a reference to the GOD AWFUL taste of Ayahuasca, which people have likened to "blended toad". I myself would describe it as blended wallnut drupes. Every time I think of it I feel like puking. Good stuff though, I met both Tesla and Satan and they taught me things ("intel gleaned from the prince of dark")

Nice reaction, man. Although with Aesop reactions I wish people wouldn’t watch the videos at the same time. There’s so much to unpack with just the lyrics. I feel like it pulls focus away and makes people miss a lot.
