I have lived all sorts of neighborhoods during my life, both in the country and in the city. One thing is true for all of them....screaming kids, both boys and girls. In fact sometimes kids just scream because they like to hear the noise come out of their little bodies. It's a universal truth. lol
Our previous next door neighbors children played outside all the time. One of the little girls used to squeal soooo loud continuously, it didn't matter what they were doing. I would always comment that the little squealer was out again.
I got used to not having daily content from you, now I’m pleasantly surprised every time a new video pops up! It’s such a surprise! I’m so glad that you are feeling better Jess.❤
Thanks for the cow update! The cows also remind me of growing up. We had both dairy and beef cows. I spent a lot time playing in the pasture with the milk cows. The paddock had a lot of very large rocks in it and those were fabulous for imaginary play. I would often lay on this one particular large rock and watch the clouds. We had a Jersey named "Pet" and she would always come over to check on me if she saw me laying down. Once a mom, always a mom! She would nudge me and "huff" a little. As if to say "Are you alright?" If I sat upright on the rock she never came round, only when I was laying down. Looking back, those were definitely some of the best times in my life.
I'm more inspired than ever. I recently went through (going through still) digestive sickness and doing a complete health reset. The food system is broken in more ways than one!
I once had a friend who lived on a hill above an elementary school. Every time I'd visit I would wake up to the joyous sounds of happy kids outside. No better way to know that things are ok, than the noise and chaos of children at play.
❤the updates on the animals but missed seeing a "close up" on Halle! You may be a helicopter Mom but I am a helicopter viewer to this first born cow on your farm🐮 You have no idea how much your farm feeds this So Cal suburban's soul. Thanks Jess!! Stay strong & healthy😉
I may be biased, but I do love that you named your sweet devin cow Jenny. Lol! 🥰 we have dorpers here, not sure what the ram is but a momma just had her babies and they came out looking like tiny Holsteins!!! I couldn't believe it they are the most adorable babies ever! I bless all you awesome humans! 💚
This farm talk is so exciting to me brings me deep into my childhood; I’m now legitimately a city boy, but I was born and raised in the country. My grandparents were farmers and we like my parents we raised on a farm and hundreds of acres of land. Sometimes, I miss it greatly, the air, sky, sound’s everything is different and better in the countryside.
I am unable to homestead with animals as our properly is far too small, so I thoroughly enjoy watching these videos just as much as your garden and devotional vlogs. Thank you for sharing so sweetly, openly. and honestly
Yay! I absolutely love the updates that include the cows!! 🐄 Delmer is so darn CUTE!!! Omg’sh, I’d be a terrible farmer, because I’d be out there loving on him no matter what, and I’d never get rid of any..haha But he reminded me of Hallelujah when she was little! She was just the most beautiful calf I’ve ever seen, like out of a storybook perfect. I’m sure she still is. All of your heifers are really pretty, and I love how sweet they are too.:) That’s so cute about Miah and his favorite cows!! ❤God Bless!! 🙏🏼👍🐮
Glorious morning Jess! Bless Mia for who he is. Your cows are lovely. I'm 6 months along with baby boy #3 right now and I feel about as big as your heifer looks right now 🙃😄🐄
Lamb is delicious and the perfect protein source for smaller homesteads as they will eat more than just grass/hay and are easy to handle and butcher on farm - I’m excited to see how you go with expanding your flock. Here in Australia most farmers will run a flock of sheep on the stubble in the paddocks after harvest is done then send them to market, which makes it an affordable red meat option and therefore commonly eaten.
Love the little "steered hehe" 😆 Glad you are feeling a bit better. Lovely to see your animals. I love cows, I wish I had one. Not sure it would fit in my back garden
It is interesting to listen to the thought processes of keeping Delmar intact versus becoming a steer whether it be on your own farm or on someone else’s farm. Thank you for sharing that with us.
Im just blown away by the progress at the farm. I remember waiting so anxiously for you guys to make the move from Arkansas and here you are. Halleluja is ONE! You not only have your first cow but MULTIPLE! The greenhouse is about to be filled with seedlings! Its such a joy to watch your dreams unfold and helps me to keep faith that mine will too.
Absolutely love your lifestyle it is one I have always dreamed of, it just never got that far before becoming disabled so now we just do as much as we can possibly do. We do a few raised beds and hoping to get a green stalk as soon as possible. Love the country life and growing as much food as possible.
Hello Jess and Noah and Family. Your cows are so beautiful. I'm glad you starting to feel better Jess. All the calves are adorable. I just love all your animals. God Bless you and Jess and family from Wendy Bertie a viewer in Toronto Ontario Canada
Jess, today as I was looking thru gardening books at our library in Ft Wayne, IN I saw your book! I have it, but it seems like such a small world at times!
I owned a jersey bull, which I halter broke, but I never stepped once into the same area as he was in. He was wonderful through the fencing, but I watched him try to turn over a 40 horsepower tractor, almost succeeding. The saying is that once they get you down, they won't let up and they grind you into the ground. That's exactly what he tried to do to that tractor.
Cats get fat from being fed kibble or wet food with non-meat fillers (rice, corn, etc). All fat cats I’ve had lost weight and became ideal weight when the food changed to all-meat wet food, and my 2 female fixed kitties I have now have eaten all-meat wet food their whole lives and are a perfect/slim weight, not fat. Check the food ingredients, cats are carnivores and shouldn’t really eat carbs, so if there’s anything other than meat and vitamins as ingredients in there then that’s probably what’s making them fat.
Myeah, I'll never keep a Jersey bull on purpose. I bred my little lady to a Belted Galloway bull that is the sweetest little snugglemuffins in the world ❤️ the combination of their two personalities is going to be so good.
I just know I would be a horrible cow farmer. I would be out there lovin on them 24/7. I was surprised to find out cows tend to be mean unless handled alot. I live 2 miles from the Wisconsin border so dairy is plentiful. The butter & cheese is marvelous. Love your farm.
I think Delmar wants to be a friendly cow. Good to get him a home where he can live a full life spreading his good nature. Maybe work the deal so you can use him to breed a couple of your heifers after he moves? He still looks like a fawn to me. So adorable and curious
On Fern, I raise purebred Angus. One thing I leaned after the fact, the last trimester calves put on bone and hair. Soo easy on the grain. And hopefully they are bred to a low bird weight bull and everything should be fine. I sleep in the barn during calving and kidding just watching all.my girls. Take care 🙂
In licensed raw dairies WA it is required to put milk in an ice water bath in the fridge for chilling. It chills faster than the freezer and there is no risk of it freezing. Just a thought.
I loved that cow update, thanks Jess. Were waiting on a calf here on our Homestead too, we don't know who the bull is either so that is making for a bit of excitement. I'm hoping to get footage of her calving for our UA-cam channel 😁
I just realized something Jess, I have a dog named Fern and someone gave me a beautiful German Shepard name Freya. So now I have a Fern and Freya on my "yard" homestead.
You just brought to mind a great child good memory of mine.. I was raised in a family where all my aunt's and uncles were farmers. not my parents though, my dad wanted a buisness degree and we did not live on a farm of our own.... Well as far as I was concerned.... I was ment to be on a farm... Well when 4-H. Season arrived.. I could not wait for the two months of going to my aunt and uncles house full time. In return for letting me go through the 4-H process and going through all the hauling animals to the fairs and state fairs with my rabbits and cows, well I would do chores just like their other FOUR kids. It was a blast. Well we would be doing chores really eirly in the mornings, and one of my older cousins. Well he Did NOT like to get up. Not a morning person at all you could say.... Well we would find him in the barn ... Sleeping. Lol. Your sweet girls remind me fondly of my time raising my girls.
Hey, I'm glad you are feeling better! I no way felt the pain that you did. However, when I deleted wheat, dairy, sugar, and gluten, all the inflammation in my joints went away. If I go out have pizza and a beer the next day my knees are so swollen with inflammation so it's just that quick. Best of luck.
Dorper and st Croix mix is good mix and katadin or Barbados black belly are all good cross breeds. Just make sure their on pasture and no grain, you'll have more issues if their being feed alot of grain.
I thought it was really funny that you had a goat named Miriam (loved the photo shoot, btw), so I had to send the video to my sister, Miriam. Then I found out you had a cow named Fern, which is my mother's name. So I thought I should suggest you should name someone Ramona, my other sister, and as soon as I had the thought, I see you have a sheep named Ramona! Hello from Arkansas. I grew up in Nashville, Arkansas. My brother was minister of music at the Immanuel Baptist Church in El Dorado several years (like 30) ago. My great grandfather who came to Arkansas was from Newberry, SC. I love your channel!
Bulls are halter broken for showing and handling purposes on farms all the time. A halter broken bull is a good bull. You can halter break them and make them easy to handle without creating bad habits. 😀 Create boundaries but halter breaking will give you a leadership level over him.
Delbur looks like he has good blood lines so definitely keep him intact- maybe you can even charge stud fee for other farms - he can be housed with steers!

Love when you go out to the barn and are around your animals. Being housebound, it means the world to me. Thanks for doing that today.
Hello sweet people of Roots and Refuge. Thank you for the daily content! 😁 🎥
Im happy she's getting better
I'm more inspired than ever. I recently went through (going through still) digestive sickness and doing a complete health reset. The food system is broken in more ways than one!
@@sonshenshomestead7668 i hope you be well too.
Delmer is absolutely ADORABLE!!! 💕🐮
He is SO CUTE! I love hearing the sniffing noises in the background, that was so funny😂. We love dogish cows❤
Hey Jess. Good morning. So thankful that you're able to gently get back to all of the things you love to do.
I once had a friend who lived on a hill above an elementary school. Every time I'd visit I would wake up to the joyous sounds of happy kids outside. No better way to know that things are ok, than the noise and chaos of children at play.

Love these animal videos
Beautiful cows and kitties! And yes it’s very normal for fixed female cats to get chubby :)
Thank you.

Aw Delmar 😍
Do I sense a certain someone finding their way back to shooting daily content? 🤗 So excited to see you in my notifications each morning, Jess!
Well Delmer is the cutest ever! 😍

Loved the update. Delmer’s face markings are beautiful.
Love the little "steered hehe" 😆
Glad you are feeling a bit better. Lovely to see your animals. I love cows, I wish I had one. Not sure it would fit in my back garden
I so do enjoy watching you interact with your animals.
It is interesting to listen to the thought processes of keeping Delmar intact versus becoming a steer whether it be on your own farm or on someone else’s farm. Thank you for sharing that with us.
I love your channel so much! You’re
Such an inspiration! 🖤 Your videos have helped me so much with gardening! I’ve learned so much.
Hi, I've never seen anyone in the comments with my last name.
Mine is McCafferty😊
How wonderful to cozy down for the evening... see Jess has a video (hopefully feeling much better!) and get Delmar kisses!💚 He is too cute.

Loved the feeling of being on the farm and catching up with the animals ❤️ A true joyous experience, thanks for the update 😊
Please make a video about succession planting!
I like how you greeted Helen. I’m my head I heard, “HAY girl.”
My god. That little Delmer!!!! Wouldn't mind you taping the animals while you speak so i can see those cute faces.
Correct on all counts in regards to the Bull calf. Good choice
I really enjoyed the video today. I love all of your animals and look forward to updates about them.

Love 💘 the farm/animal sounds😊
Your cows are just so sweet
Delmer looks like a well behaved calf.
Great approach, all things considered--very realistic and best wishes for you and your family.
I just got another dairy goat. I think having your own milk is awesome!! ❤
I’m so happy with the update!!!! I really was looking forward to the sheep update ♥️. I bless you

Such beautiful animals. I’m amazed that you keep all their names right. You’re a smart girl!

Fern and I are due at the same time. :)

Delmer will have the best life EVER!! Real ladies man😜
Love your channel. Thanks for the content❤
What a nice surprise to see a video from you today 🥰🙏

We love our Dorper sheep. We have two ewes and will breed them in the fall of 23. Not sure if we will buy a ram or borrow one.
Nice updates! What's happening with Jeremiah's horses?
Good morning Jess!
Your farm is so beautiful!
Hi Jess! Chip and Cherry are a calico cats and calicos are very often less social creatures than many other cats. They are beautiful though ❤️.
Yes, Jersey bills are NUTS.
The Fern clip made me wonder if the cows still gravitate to Miah..? 😊
You better be careful! That big smile of your my hurt your face😂

I think that's a great choice for Delmar.

Hi Jess here's a ?great question if you had a bigger freeze dryer would it be possible to dry grass for winter for all your grass🐄🐑🐂 nibblers 🤔😁
Our orange female cat got huge after she got fixed. She looks like Garfield now
