    Thank you Father and thank you to those putting on the recording. We can only imagine where'd we be if F. Thomas Merton was not killed in 1968. He had just meet HHDL and was told about Vajrayana meditation. But it is fantastic and joyfully so, to see the work of Fr. Tiso here.
    My own personal view is that Jesus is Buddha; Buddha is God.
    No doubt philosophers and theologicans would disagree because it looks different from the outside. But the Mystics would agree because from the inside it looks the same.

    Im reading the teachings of the buddha. What i have noticed is that the tone of the text is soooo different than the new testament. New testament is very legalistic. Romans, acts etc all strive to catergorize everything into good vs bad and emphasize consequences of the bad.
    The buddhist text is totally not concerned with such cateerforizations. The focus of the writings is totally on achieving enlightment, nirvana and how you will break the cycle of samsara through practicing loving kindness, compassion and empathy.
    IMO Jesus hinted at these concepts but since he was preaching in Israel in an insular legalistic jewish community...it waa very difficult to get people to shift thier thinking and romans are also very legalistic. Jesus was focused more on the why and how (which is the eastern tradition) but jews and the western tradition are focused more on the when, where and what. So they couldnt understand that once empathy and compassion becomes the focus and dominate the mind the when, where and what becomes les important and fades altogether and the how and why ultimately guides your approach to human interaction and spiritual awakening.
    They coudlnt understand this so they crucified him for trying to reveal a higher truth. Even today we are so focused on jesus divinity that we are missing the point of his message entirely.

    Thank you for that beautiful presentation. Would it be possible to point me to some material related to meditation practice in the Christian tradition? Huston Smith mentions a book in his text on world religions called Light from Light. Aside from this, as well as Father Thomas Keating's centering prayer, I am not very familiar with this area. Are there any reading materials or websites you could suggest? Thanks kindly, Daniel

    Jesus was brought up in Judaism. It was possible he was dissatisfied with the teaching of Jewish religeous teachers especially teaching about adultery, killing ,avoiding eating some food observing the Sabbath etc. He was also against the hypocrisy of Jewish religeous teachers like the Pharisses . Jesus travelled to other places especially to the East to learned about other religeon until he reached Nepal where he learned Buddhism.

      My friend if Jesus is the Logos of God, which has been proclaimed since the beginning, He has no need to be taught Buddhism. He is the fulfillment of humanity's deepest longings. Medidate deeply on Christ's claim to be the Way, the Life, and the Truth

      @@foodforthought8308 Who has proclaimed this? The Gospels who have been chosen by men to be put in the Bible? the same people who decided other gospels to be banned? I don't share your watertight certainty concerning this claim. Humans have had their hand in the teachings of Jesus, so what is 100% really coming only from Jesus? Same can probably be said of other big figures like Buddha, Mohammed, etc.

      @@jope76 My friend, I appreciate your questions. I do hope they are sincere. Whether you are a student of history or completely unexposed, I invite you to meditate every time you write the date. Out of every person around whom human history could be dated, why choose a Jewish carpenter/ Messiah candidate who happened to be crucified under the Roman Empire? How did this crucified man conquer Rome? Why does there exist a universal Entity today called the Church that claims be His Mystical Body? When and how did it originate? We as a modern human race unknowingly sit on the shoulders of Saints who stand on the shoulders of Christ. Look up the testimonies of St. Paul, St. Peter, St. John, St. Ignatius, St. Polycarp, St. Justin Martyr, St. Ireneaus. Truly read the Gnostic "other gospels" and find they do not hold a candle to the earliest sources, the Symptoptic Gospels. The sheer volume of manuscripts is mind blowing. Find in them that Someone was willing to die for you. Find that you are actually Loved by God and meant to be in Communion with Him, meant to be a Saint. Find, as St. Maximus puts it, "the new way to be human"

    Buddha is the noblest person in the world. There is only one Buddha who attained enlightenment by himself. He is the one who cuts off all passions. He is the guide to the highest truth. The best teachings of the Buddha the most profound Anyone can escape suffering if they study the Buddha's teachings thoroughly.

Unfortunately, scriptural waters were muddied by POLITICS, & the role of the SANHEDRIN. This leaves us having to read between the lines. N.B. Gnostic Gospel of Thomas is VERY Taoist influenced. As a Protestant I can appreciate the mind training meditation practice, and wisdom from Buddhism. A Christian can learn skills from any non-Christian. Buddhist metaphysics, morality, and reincarnation just don’t align with The Bible. There is no need to make these aspects of Buddhism fit Christianity or Christianity fit Buddhism. Christianity is an exclusive religion. Buddhism is not. A person must ultimately serve Christ if they are a Christian. Any pejorative comments about his being a Roman Catholic priest are not relevant to this video’s topic.

    The similarities mean nothing when you understand that the precondition for the resurrection of Christ is that you are born horrible and sinful and thus are codependent on Christ, while the Buddhist rainbow body has a precondition of wanting power or growth. We independently seek to achieve the rainbow body to gain siddhis and power in the world, we codependently seek to believe in the resurrection so that we dont go to hell.

    • @foodforthought8308

      The Christian precondition, which you have misrepresented, is unfortunately true. The illusion is that the Buddhist is any less dependent. The need for Christ is universal. He did not come for the righteous, but for the sinner

      That it is not true. Even in mystical Christianity, people meditate on certain energy centres in the body. There are many other similarities between mystical Christianity and Buddhism, so demonizing one would be like demonizing the other.

Look up the jusus sutras. What you read in the bible is. Really a a Roman bastardization of what Jesus actually tought what left in the is excuses of why the authorial state should rule ver you. What Buddha taught & what Jesus Christ taught is totally opposite. Buddha taught Work based Salvation & ultimately died of food poisoning where as Jesus gave us Salvation by GRACE, and he did that by dying for mankind’s SIN. He didn’t stay dead but resurrected on the 3rd day proving his Divinity & authority over death.
    Jesus performed hundreds of healings & miracles. Buddha couldn’t heal sickness & was himself a Sinner unlike Christ. So this narrative is completely flawed & utterly untrue if you compare what they both brought on the table.

    • @AverageBuddhist88
      @AverageBuddhist88 Рік тому +4

      Clearly you have never read or even heard of a Buddhist scripture. The Buddha did so many miracles for his whole life he constantly healed the sick and proved he was divine. If you don't know anything about Buddhism, don't speak about it, yeah?

    • @alan5496
      @alan5496 6 місяців тому

      Buddhism is works based? What works are Buddhist monks doing in temples and monasteries? First, it's not clear if he died from food poisoning, but even if he did, I don't know what that has to do with anything. Jesus died from crucifixion.
      According to the law of karma, everyone has to pay for the bad deeds they've committed. When you sin, you accumulate bad karma and then you suffer for it. When Jesus healed the sick, he took on their bad karma or their sins, and paid it off through crucifixion. The Buddha performed miracles and did healings too, so the Buddha had no choice but to suffer at the end. The Buddha brought teachings that would lead to eternal life because it was believed that even Gods had to reincarnate. Buddha and Jesus provide a different path. Jesus saves with faith and grace, while the Buddha saves with enlightenment.

    • @johnweber4577

      To my understanding anyway, Buddhism isn't really works based because you are only subject to karma while operating within the cycle of Samsara. Good karma might put you in a better position to reach awakening, but awakening is not based on the accruement of that karma itself or losing it all as is the case in Jainism. Much like how a Christian must still reap what they sow in the world of sin until salvation gets attained. Awakening and grace ultimately each transcend any hold by those effects.
