    You may think that he hates Sadie, but he actually loves the song because if it wasn't for this song we wouldn't have John Farnham the singer instead of John Farnham the plumber instead.

    The song that made him famous and he just can’t live it down. You need to go back and see him perform it in the late 60’s! Another good oldie which is just soo beautiful is Bridge Over Troubled Water, from 1979, he was 30 years old. One of my faves. Also the ticket prices were generally around $25-35 Australian dollars in the 80’s and a bit more in the 90’s.

    Who cares how much a John Farnham ticket costs. We’d all pay whatever it was or ask our families to chip in together get it for us for Christmas if we couldn’t. Millions of us have been to a John Farnham concert , and there’s only 26 million of us! Andcwe’d go again! Most loved human in Australia!

    I've been to 20 of John's concerts... I don't think we ever paid more than $80 for a ticket... in Perth, the Limited view seats happened to be so close to the stage and the PA did not hinder our view... we would go on a Saturday night and then to the matinee on the Sunday... I think the tickets for the Main Event (with Olivia Newton John and Anthony Warlow...plus John were around $110 - but for what we got that was just amazing)... He is a joy under any circumstances, but to witness him live is just something that I will never forget... every time he was just as good if not even better.... Class act and one of the nicest humans on the planet.

    I have been to numerous concerts of John Farnham - including several farewell concerts. I have seen him with Jimmy Barnes, Tom Jones, the MSO, The main event with Olivia Newton John and Andrew Warhlow, as well seeing him perform at several fund raiser concerts for fires, droughts, farmers relief and other events. I have never paid over $110 for a concert. He always gives a great concert and always interacts with the audience. Nobody ever leaves disappointed. The man is a legend!

    I can’t remember the ticket prices exactly, but the last time (of 5) that I saw him in 2010, at the Wollongong entertainment centre, I think it was around $100. At the clubs in the 80’s and 90’s it was $30 to $40. Should also point out that he’s one of the only artists who has children’s ticket prices at non age restricted venues. John would do a show like that one, then go to a town where the biggest venue (Shellharbour Workers Club at the time when I lived there) held around 2000 people. And the shows were beyond awesome. Us non-singers wouldn’t be able to talk for 3 days afterwards. It was there that I saw him perform with Jimmy Barnes (who lived in the area) in his encore. Not many people can say they saw that live. Final point, I saw Elton John live this year. Tickets for myself and my family were $350 each. Not half as good as John live.

    He could also have been a comedian. Look at his comedy/singing duet, Granada, with Anthony Warlow, an Aussie opera and musical theatre legend. He references Anthony's performance in Phantom of the Opera.

    Poor John. "Sadie" is a bit of an embarrassment and people stir him up a little about it. But as a testament to his good character, he plays along with it and gives the audience what they want. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Oh, alright then, but don't tell anyone!"

  • @lovemyrainydays
    @lovemyrainydays 2 роки тому +10

    Yeah, Sadie was like his very first single back in '67. Of his really early ones, my favourites are 1970's Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head and 1969's One is the Loneliest Number. Though my absolute favourites are That's Freedom and his cover of Zeppelin's Black Dog.

    I have been to every one of John's concerts that have been within a days driving distance. I'm not sure of the total, but ALOT! Concert tours plus performances for fire and drought relief probably 20 to 25 shows. I am also blessed to have seen him perform SADIE live at one of his very first performances at the TROCADERO CLUB in Sydney in November or December of 1967. He was just 18, I was 15 years old.

      How lucky were you. If I could have been at any concert I think this is the one I would choose. I want a time machine so I can go back to all the concerts I missed. This one, Live Aid with Queen, a bit of young Robert Plant & Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Pink Floyd, Bowie, The Who, Stevie Wonder, Santana, Springsteen, Cold Chisel. So many but especially this concert. John is so charismatic & hilarious & has such a stage presence with such skill, passion and vocal ability and range. How can we not love him.

    His first ever hit, and yes it’s not a song any other singer could be proud of, but it was this song that brought this fresh faced, smiling and generous entertainer to our attention. It even shows the hint of the voice that was lurking. We love him for it, because without it, we probably never would have the performances to follow, and the seasoned, skilled and sublime singer to follow that we know as ‘The Voice’ himself.

    He cracks me up every time he does Sadie. NO Nick Off..... this one is by far the best of all of them. He has said a number of times over the years, that it was never the sort of song he ever wanted to sing even back then, but if it wasn't for Sadie he wouldn't be where he is today. So he loves the song. You should have a look at the original from back i 1967/68 when he was only 18 years old. ....another lovely one from the early days is baby with out you with colleen hewitt

    John was 17 when he recorded his first hit ‘Sadie’ during the era of comedy songs. Still high school age, but he’d left school and was a fresh faced apprentice plumber. From memory ‘Raindrops keep falling on my head’ was his next hit. A couple of years later he played the lead in the musical Pippin. Sadie was such a crass somg but very indicative of a whole range of funny songs by lots of people. As a freakinshly talented singer John always pretends to never sing “bloody Sadie” but always does.

    💗💗MIKE...John did a short stint as the lead singer of THE LITTLE RIVER BAND when the original lead, Glen Shorrock retired. You must react to "Little River Band - Reminiscing REMASTERED" 💗💗 His voice in this song is amazing. It didn't last long with LRB, they held him back, you will notice the boring lack of audience interaction, that interaction is what John thrives on. They even shortened his mike cables (without him knowing) so he couldn't move around the stage. He was told that was "too flashy" for their audiences. Plus he was told, "don't be funny". Thank God he left them. Little River Band, where are you now? We all know where John Farnham is.
