This episode is the biggest piece of evidence that Lelouch is his own worst enemy. CC warned Lelouch that overusing his Geass could cause him to lose control and Mao demonstrated that concept thoroughly. Despite that, Lelouch is so in love with his own genius that he thinks nothing and nobody can beat him, especially his own power. He uses the Geass in literally every episode with no regard for the damage it could cause and he unsurprisingly loses control of the power that he literally knows NOTHING about, causing Euphie to die. Makes him a cool character tho.
While it is a true tragedy especially with us knowing that came into effect even by accident, there is some level of logic behind it She was truly compassionate to the Japanese, his example was something extreme that she specifically would never do consciously

There's another spinoff called Knightmare of Nunnally where she gets a geass. And Lelouch is bulletproof Zero. There's a few genderbend characters there I believe, in a way, but its an interesting take. There's also a novel version of Code Geass anime where Lelouch complained about C.C. eating 5-7 meals a day.
