- I am a self taught artist. One of the most beneficial techniques that I have learned from is by doing master studys. Copying the style and processes of dead artist's work. In this video I am sharing my process for this painting of Leonardo DaVinci's 'Lady With an Ermine' .
I hope you enjoy the process

Handy tip for Leonardo and most of the Renaissance and Gothic masters; the underpainting is usually in a greenish colour. The cool underpainting allows the creation of cool shadows, and more depth and realism in the skin tones. cf: "verdaccio" - green underpainting over which pinkish skin tone colours are laid. The Renaissance masters used "terra verde" a green earth pigment, but I find it leaves too chalky a surface. I prefer to mix my own with yellow ochre and cobalt blue.
Much better than many who call themselves masters, well made👍
There is so much to learn from layering and glazing your own pieces… I am learning to do so piece by piece…. THANKYOU for your teachings xx
Glad you’re finding my videos helpful! Thanks for watching 😁
what a beauty 😍
Brilliant video! What amazing talent!
You are very talented
Excellent work. I've heard of this technique(s) before. Sounds like hours and hours of work, but if you enjoy it, and are learning from it, I see no reason not to do this. I sort of did a mini-copy of Monte's waterlilies, last year. The fact that the master did this in oils, and mounded layer upon layer on his large paintings didn't deter me. I simply did a little copy that hangs in my room. That's all I wanted, aside from learning about Monet and his paintings.
this is so amazing. i am really losing hope in ever improving my work. can you critique my art work.
Very nice 😍
btw, there is no copyright if the artist is dead for 70 years, so it’s allowed to paint the old masters
A lot of informations in such a short video. Amazing, thanks a lot!
I am painting for a few months now and still can't get myself to start with glazing, even though i would like to learn from great masters (mainly Bouguereau). First i feel like i don't have the patience to wait till each glaze dries. I only have maybe around three days of painting per week.
Then i like the idea of adding and removing things from my art during painting. I think (maybe i am wrong though) once you start glazing, you can't really do anything with the composition or add anything.
And last, i feel like mistakes are much more difficult to fix, as contrary to alla prima.

Do you use only one type of material in every painting
