18. Absalom Rebels (2 Samuel 15 - 16)

After his public reconciliation with his father, Absalom began orchestrating a rebellion that would eventually become the single greatest test of David and his rule. As he ingratiated himself to the popular sympathies, he at the same time organized a widespread following of loyal supporters who would launch their coup with such suddenness, that David would be forced to flee Jerusalem seeking refuge wherever he could find it. In the desperate circumstances that unfolded, David once again turned to his only hope, the mercy of God.
