Kathak was born before Mughal Era , As Lord Shiva created 8 Classical Dance form with 108 Yogic Karnas then with all 4 yugas all classical dance forms flourished in different dance form as in Treta Yuga Valmiki rishi was first kathak Guru and Lav Kusha was the first kathak performer who sung Ramayan at court of Lord Rama , then in Dwapar at Shri Krishna time Krishna was Kathak performer as he did Raas with Gopis and in Kalyuga kathak have it's present form . It's a history in very short form .
As a classical Bharatnatyam dancer, the misinformation about Kathak originating in Punjab is disappointing. These classical dance forms are an integral part of our (Indian) culture. It originated in Uttar Pradesh. These dance forms were used to depict epic tales from Hindu scriptures and are often performed in temples as an artist’s offering to god. Appropriation of our culture is not it! Give credit where it’s due.
Kathak Originated at Uttar Pradesh not in Punjab . Varanasi, Ayodhya , Mathura, Vrindavan are some cities where you get very old written documents about Kathak even in Ramayana and Mahabharta .
Sophia has done this interview with so much love and affection for Khatak. It was very inspirational , knowledgeable but at the same time sad to find out about the history of classical dance in Pakistan.. Hope we can free our minds and embrace the art.
What a reminiscing ode to the Pakistani culture of classical dance which was choked for many decades! Sophia what a beautiful presentation! You brought my late father sitting next to me appreciating all these classical dances together. Like Naheed Siddiqui said dance and art stems from liberation and freedom from all the ties. Like Budha said "If you want to fly give up everything that is weighing you down".
Really enjoyed watching the interview. Very well done! Honestly had no clue about the history of classical dance and how it was banned in Pakistan. Quite informative….. keep it up Mango Prime
Sophia loved watching you take this interview. What an informative interview. Wish classical dance did not die out in Pakistan. I used to take khattak dancing class at Covent in my younger days. Thank you for the history and lovely to hear Nahid Siddiqui and so glad she continued her dream elsewhere.
Sophia conducted the interview beautifully! Wish it had been for a longer time. Would’ve loved to hear more from Naheed Siddiqui……a true inspiration! It would be wonderful if she could open a Kathak dance academy in Pakistan
I also agree... conducting an interview, those questions should have been asked and dug more from her. This way fine arts fans and artists could get more information with much more clarity. However, it was a nice attempt.
Excellent,it’s a big research, one month is a very little time for compiling such an excellent interview, documentary and facts about dance in our country.Fantastic work 👏👏👏👏
The whole session was very impressive, short, and precise. Sophia, as an anchor you did a great job. Revival of Kathak and other forms of dances require academies and institutes. There is a slight error I have noticed, which is not so big. At the end of the session where various artists with their names are shown, just before Indu Mitha Sahiba, it is Zareen Panna commonly known as Panna (Mrs. S. Suleman) and not Madam Azurie, the lady where it says Zareen Panna is Madam Azurie. I wish to see more interviews like this, so people can be more aware of fine arts standing in the current day situation.
Please 🙏🙏 correct kathak is originated from uttar Pradesh.specialy for lord Krishna i know you hesitate to speak truth because it belongs to hindu culture. But anyone dance who love it even Mughals period it is use in dance
Really enjoyed this lovely but extremely short talk with Nahidji. Thankyou for taking us on the very short but beautiful trip down memory lane. We in Pakistan sort of started on the right footing but sadly today it’s not the Pakistan we saw growing up. What a mess every ruler made. I hope most of them are here to see the mess they made
Thank u for ur encouraging words.. much appreciated.there are 2 additional talks with Nahid ji on mango … also u may like to watch the video on arts and it’s role in women’s… featuring Sheema Kermani
Total bullshit kathak has nothing to do punjab and Muslims it was originated utter Pradesh and rajasthan it's based on Hindu mythology it just flourished in Mughal court and wajid Ali Shah who loved to perform on geet govindom.
This video is so misleading! What is this inferiority complex that you have? Firstly, its origin is in UP, that too, IN A TEMPLE, YES, A TEMPLE. It's a COMPLETELY HINDU DANCE FORM. Very smartly you guys start the history from mughals, rejecting the origins. "Kathak" means "Katha" which doesn't mean just storytelling, they were stories of Hindu Scriptures. If you want to mention mughals, please do. Their contribution was that of reducing the devotional dance form to mujra today. Andd, it's not a CULTURE of Subcontinent, IT'S A HINDU RELIGIOUS DANCE FORM
First of all stop putting Indian classical dances under the umbrella of "Dances of the subcontinent" to somehow attach it's relation to Muslims or Pakistan .They are dances of India . All of them originated in the hindu temples. As for Kathak, it originated in hindu temples as well , kathak is a way of storytelling from the Hindu scriptures, and epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana. Stop trying to appropriate our Culture and promote as your own.
India was the origional india. Not the new india which got independence on 15th August 1947. The india which consisted of current india, Pakistan and Bangladesh
@@RandomzzOfficial so true I guess people who are saying this dance belongs to India do not know at one time long long time ago Mohenjo-Daro and Taxila were part of India which are now after independence part of Pakistan and these dances belong to this culture they might be not Muslim culture but definitely georgical belong to Pakistan

Kathak was initially invented in Temples.
Such an important topic and thanks Mango lounge for conducting this interview.
Very nice effort, really enjoyed we need more shows like that.
Kathak was originated in Rajasthan.. Please correct the facts.. It's was not just Wajid ali sha.. There were many Kings who promoted Kathak.
I have not seen such a fine foot work in any classical dancer of Pakistan with beautiful and clearly visible footwork
