    I thank GOD that I am a contemporary of Jon's. In addition to the great pleasure his music has given me through the years, it has also "taught" me much about LIFE. (which by the way, is the name that he originally suggested for the band.)
    GOD bless you Jon and thank you!

    Thanks so much for posting this... I was there! I saw them in the Bay Area a couple of days before and they were passing out flyers about the event. I decided on the spot to drive down for it. It was great fun! Kind of amusing to see myself in the line in this video. And I'm the one who asked the question about the Olias symbol. Quite an experience to make eye contact with Jon Anderson!

    Jon is a very passionate individual. I like his words and his honesty. I think he was quite nervous, speaking on a stage is probably much harder than singing and performing. I wish he would write a book.

      Agreed, there have been many rock acts, and many musicians and lead singers that have come before and after. But not many have come close to the passion, and sheer elegance that he has bestowed upon the whole world of rock.

    Very interesting to hear Jon speak freely about his fundamental spiritual views and the basis for his lyric/message choices. I'm sure I'm not the only one to make this assertion, but he, through his music, has been something akin to a guru. I don't say that dismissively. Many Yes songs have had a deeper significance to me than just casual entertainment. I allowed them and Jon's lyrics to connect with whatever my philosophical base happened to be at the time. Whatever was in conflict, I re-interpreted or actively dismissed. I've been a student of "spiritual teachings" most of my life and can't say I agree with everything Jon is saying in that vein, just like no two people will agree on everything about anything, but I respect and appreciate him sharing his search for truth and meaning like anyone else's. I believe I've found the truth in the person of a man we generally know as Jesus, the Christ. I know that many people disagree, and that's fine. We each have to find the answers to the big questions for ourselves. Though I don't believe Jon is a "classic" or traditional believer in Jesus (I believe he's considered Jesus to be more of a spiritual "icon" to be used as a symbolic "touchpoint" rather than as the actual Messiah) I've certainly enjoyed the expression of longing for spiritual connection to the divine in Yes' music and the expression of the image of divinity within man as expressed through Yes' music. I wish Jon Anderson the best.

      I had a dream where I went to a lot of his concerts and it got to the point where we knew each other really well and hung out. In reality I only met him once but he was great. I told him about a dream I had where we played keyboards on stage and in the dream he said "move over." I had him re-enact that with me complete with him saying to me in person "yeah, move over." :D I prompted him but he went along with it anyway.

    Anderson is one of the few that still has the "hippy ideal" as some would call it. In this day and age unfortunately his words seem a bit out of it for the many, of course growing up listening to Anderson you are fully aware of his ideals and see it more clearly without the ridicule.

    Those first 5 Yes LPs still captivate my ears & mind like nothing else.
    My favorite iteration of Yes only lasted for 1 album; Anderson, Squire, Howe, Kaye & Bruford- The Yes Album band.
    I had always heard & accepted that Kaye was tossed because he would not vary from Hammond & piano only- which is true.
    Rick was a better player, to be sure. But they nailed the sound I like best with the member included on The Yes Album.
    To me, THAT was perfection- the overall sound at that time....

      @JoinTheProgress 8 років тому +8

      You're obviously looking for a dig; it wasn't a criticism, it was simply an observation. He makes it clear later on that he wants wealth as much as we all do, and that we all deserve abundance. BTW, this was 1994.

    • @metamorphosis67
      @metamorphosis67 8 років тому +5

      He said inner-G and symbols of inner-God, he never said he's driven by money. He's driven by creativity, never wealth. The fact that he's wealthy is a by-product of his creativity. Until the 90125 album, they never sat down and said let's write a "hit" song. They just did whatever they felt like, even if that meant 26 minute songs. But even 90125 wasn't your typical Foreigner or Asia album. It was still much more ambitious than those types of groups in the prog, challenging yourself or creativity department.

    • @JoinTheProgress
      @JoinTheProgress 8 років тому +2

      metamorphosis67
      IMO, 90125 and Big Generator are the best "pop" albums ever made; just enough to appeal to the masses, and yet introduce them to some serious talent and exploration of how music can be created.
      I knew of them during their 90125 time, but truly "discovered" them with Big Generator, it was kinda' a timing thing based on my maturity level and genre interests at the time (I was too into heavy metal at the time of 90125 to be interested, very young).
      Ftr, I did/do like Asia just the same; Howe, etc. Asia may not have been quite as creative at the time, but they still produced tunes that were incredibly appealing. That alone takes a skill set. (Hence 95% of modern music sucking so bad).
      I don't know what they put in the water over there in England...for a couple decades we had nothing but raw talent coming outta there in huge amounts. It was really extraordinary.

Right, Jon A. is a hypocrite. .? because of your lack of success trying to Be a musician.

      I'm not gonna say Jon is right on the mark with everything he says, but as a musician, I find a lot of similar truths to what he's saying in the music I play and the music I appreciate, on a physical and spiritual level, and most musicians find those truths through their own individual ideas how to approach music and spirituality. And yes I have done psychedelic drugs too, and fuck you for degrading them!

    If people didn't know Jon's from Lancashire and they also didn't know the East Lancashire accent is rhotic ('r's are fully pronounced anywhere), NO-ONE WOULD GET WHERE JON'S FROM. Here he's already Americanised quite a lot and lost a lot of his native accent. He sometimes even doesn't sound English, you might think he's Irish... naw, he's English, North of England, East Lancashire, not that far from Manchester. In Manchester people used to speak like this once... now this accent is confined in a small area betweem Blackburn and Burnley. But he'd already lost a huge bunch of that here, he'd already Americanised.
