Thanks for the very interesting look at Enterprise. The show suffered from a lot of interference from the network executives and high turnover of writers. I think it would have benefited from building more friendships among the crew and focusing on the characters more often and as more of an ensemble. I do think however, that they had a very strong fourth season, notwithstanding the disappointing finale.
Raptor here > Agree dthe finale was pretty poor! We will be doing very broad looks at all the seperate series before we do episode specific reviews so keep a look out for those and our other videos!
I loved Enterprise all of it even the ending episode. I didn't like the death of a character (no spoilers) it was a holodeck recreation and probably not what actually happened. The episode, 'Detained', actor Dean Stockwell, he played Al in Quantum Leap. I was hoping the writers would've put some referential dialogue in there. At least captain Archer exclaiming, 'Oh boy!' I love Phlox.
I remember Enterprise first being advertised on TV. Voyager had just ended, and although I had yet to watch any other Star Trek show, I was aware of how the timeline was consistently moving forward. I.E. DS9 ran concurrently with the timeline of TNG and Voyager was directly during/following the events of DS9. The prospect of a new Star Trek leading directly from the end of Voyager was very appealing to me. Then I found out that Enterprise was going back to the 22nd century, and I was sorely disappointed. I then saw the trailer, and whatever good will I had left was duly washed away. The trailer was so heavily focussed on the sex appeal, that 12-year-old asexual me was completely turned off. After seven years of inspiring female figures in the form of a captain, engineer, medical nurse and an astro-scientist, I was seeing scenes of T'Pol greased up in gel, while Reed & Archer made lewd laddish/school-boy remarks. I decided not to watch the show, and instead went back the the shows before Voyager, which I missed due to my age. It was not until a few years after Enterprise was cancelled that I got around to it. To my surprise, it wasn't actually half bad. Not as good as the previous three, but I still really enjoyed it. It was truly terrible advertising choices that stopped me from watching the show during its original airtime, and that's because they were trying to appeal to a particular demographic - immature horny straight guys - and not even considering that Star Trek might have a considerably more diverse fanbase than what they were gives it credit for.
Raptor: i remember the adverts in the UK used a robbie williams song (kids) and more heavily focused on the pre-tos era elements more than the sex appeal
Michael: Marketing can definitely make or break a piece of media and that era of media was all about pushing the sex appeal of everything unfortunately.
Raptor: Oh they were. There were some real stinkers in there. No worse than most star trek series however. Im not sure which show i would argue has the worst singular episode...*ponders*
Raptor: In recent years I've been a lot more impressed by the things Enterprise did. I defo think it was unfairly treated when it was on TV at the time.
I’m really enjoying your commentary and discussion. Keep it up! 😊
Raptor: Thank you ^^

Michael: For all the interference I think it still stood up fairly well, it's just a shame we never got that 5th season.

@@OneTrekMind They must have made a few different trailers then; I don't remember that one.

Some of the eps were truely terrible 😂😂😂

Michael: There were defintely a few that I had a real hard time getting through on par with some of the worst original series episodes.
Star trek discovery is horrible. Enterprise never got any due credit. It's sad

Michael: I can definitely agree Enterprise doesn't get the love it should.
